Technoincubus
Rockets require thousands of steel, bunker doors even more. I usually have several ranches since mid-game, like pacu, hatch and puft-morb farm working non-stop and even then I barely had 2500 steel from lime I accumulated. Is there any non-exploitive ways to get enough lime to build at least one rocket? By my estimation you will need about 150000-30000 kgs of steel to make all necessary preparations, including telescopes and stuff. Sasza22
Since the rocketry upgrade there`s a new rock type in the oil biome: Fossils. Crushing it in the rock crusher grants you 5kg of lime per 100 kg of fossils. There are several tons of fossilis to dig out. It seems to be enough to build a defensive layer around your asteroid with a bit leftover for a rocket. If you started your game before the rocketry upgrade you`d need to start a new one to get fossils. For me, there is enough fossil to build 2 bunker layers (1 bunker tile layer for defend my biomes in mid game, and 1 bunker door layer while I build in the space without worrying about meteors and melting biomes), now I only need to deconstruct the bunker tile layer for get tons of steel and build 2 rockets Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96215-how-to-get-this-insane-amounts-of-steel-for-rockets/#findComment-1091425 Share on other sites
_Q_
Make sure your colony can survive without your interaction, make automated egg farm, and run game in background 24/7, check it week later and you can build rockets. SkunkMaster
For late-game, ranching is very important. Hatch farms, slickster farms and even drecko farms all help out a lot. Pacu farms are also a option, but the short story is you need to farm critters. Yes fossils are good, good to get you started, but late game you would want to have access to mass produced lime, hence the need for ranching. Neotuck
Hatches are still the simplest and easiest to farm, and if your main food source isn't sleet wheat then a good dirt farm can make it possible to ranch sage hatches for double coal production Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96215-how-to-get-this-insane-amounts-of-steel-for-rockets/#findComment-1091460 Share on other sites
SakuraKoi
Pacus are the best mean after fossils to get lime, forget about the other creatures. One lays 3 eggs every 2 cycles in top condition and even if kept on standby, one gets an egg every ~25 cycles (+meat~). They lay the heaviest eggs. While I can not tell you the best room layout to get as many as possible, I can recommend one very important thing: 1st: Algae is needed to increase their population and what's now notable is that you do not and should not feed them 140kg each cycle but only 1 or rather as little as possible. This can be achieved and best timed with an Autosweeper which fills the fish feeder with 1kg of Algae (just set max storage to 1) and a clock sensor which is active for only 1% of the time. Even if starving or baby pacu waste it and a bit more you may already know 2nd: Note how many you can fit into a tank and remove eggs when at overcapacity (+stop the feeder) by using the incubator, also have then another empty tank ready which has a fish release at the highest priority. 3rd: You may want to have three kind of tanks for the three different kinds of Pacu 4th: Pacu can live in any liquid... though water is still the most common and the only other alternative would be oil 5th: When you have enough Pacu, you do not need anything else to eat 6th: Get algae and water from rockets if you really need it, however, if you need Petroleum, get water first and use it for pumping crude oil ?th: PETA will not like it but you could just crowd&compress the full tanks in one, also by hatching the eggs in an incubator, or utilize gravity, or store+unload+flapping. This could be used to save space (and water) initially as well, by having a breed tank and an inhumane one. There's fossils down there that, when crushed, will give 5kg of lime per 100kg of fossil. I did a bit of math and experimentation, there's enough fossil down there in the average world seed to make a complete bunker across the whole map surface, with a fair amount of steel left over. SakuraKoi
1 minute ago, Technoincubus said: That is unusual as they seem to be the smallest creatures, not counting shine bugs Well, after 225 cycles and holding off on going to the surface and I have like 2,2t of Steel, with 110kg lime and 47,6kg of Egg Shells waiting, meaning I could have like 3,7t of Steel. I did not touch fossils yet (though I have 2192,8kg from scratching the oil biome which would also be another ton) All I did by the by is quickly explore and kidnap any Pacu eggs by assigning them to unpowered Incubators. My Light Bug population is merely 2, a few Pufts&Dreckos and about the original amount of hatches. Weirdly enough, I only have like 9 Pacu in my 3x3 tank, I'm certain that I should have more... suicide commando
Fossils and Pacu are the way to go. While you can get very technical with Pacu, the way I did it works too. I build a GIANT fishtank, then fed them for 20-30 cycles as much as they could eat, and watched the population explode. With giant tank, i mean about as wide as my screen and about 2/3rd as high. Filled with Polluted water, I have a metric buttload of them in there, and once the population had expanded, I just stop feeding them again, and just have them live on their own in there. This is netting me a huge pile of eggshells for lime creation for 0 effort. First of all, telescope don't need steel for the telescope. Then you only need 32 tons of steel to cover all the surface : "Acier" = "Steel" (I'm French). For the Steam Rocket, you only need : 4 tons for the biggest one (9 modules) + 1 tons for the socle. So no, you don't need a millions tons of steels. greggbert
The robo miner is great for clearing the biome with fossils and then you got BUTT TUNS OF lime. However if you don't replace some of it with insulation you get a nasty warm surprise... Another option is to create a shine farm and scatter the eggs around your base, soon those babies will have babies and you end up with lots and lots of eggs.
