Mooka
First of all, the old sprite of the water tank feels much better than this new one. I feel like these new sprites do not fit into the oni art style, it seems strange. Look at the portal, water pump and natural gas generator, they are metallic with 3D layers that give a depth feel of a real structure, something that is not happening with the tanks, they feel like UI element. It's a giant red / blue flat shape inside the world. Lagmawnster
I gotta say that I agree with this. Practically all art so far has the welding marks shown. They do feel bloaty and flat this way. Sasza22
They look more high tech. Maybe that`s a deliberate choice as they are all higher in the tech tree than everything else in the screenshot (except the printer). Similar the rockets looked more high tech and clean than the regular dupe build structures. Bomato
I was sad when they replaced the first liquid reservoir sprite with this blue thing, I can't even tell what it is supposed to be, with this odd handle at the top. Also, all dials are flat towards the player even though the tank is round? It doesn't have any interesting shapes, at least the gas tank has that valve with perspective. Mooka
I've became upset with the change too. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/95194-the-new-tank-sprites-feels-strange/#findComment-1081252 Share on other sites
Cairath
It looks very out of place, especially the lighting on it. Don't mind it looking more high tech, but in the current state it looks like something modded into the game, not an object using the game's art style. blash365
I'd rather have 2 tiers (or more) of the reservoirs. One low tier with the old design and the current capacity and a higher tier with the current design and a higher capacity Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/95194-the-new-tank-sprites-feels-strange/#findComment-1081284 Share on other sites
Michi01
I think something that looks similar to the old liquid tank, just a bit more high tech, would have been better. I like the gas tank art though, although the shading does seem a bit out of place when compared to existing buildings. Mariilyn
I think the oversized and flat gauge elements on the gas tank are what causes it to look flat, not the lack of welded shapes. I like the smooth texture. The new liquid tank sprite better reflects it's high position in the tech tree but is not easily recognizable as a water tank. It could make a cute washing machine though .. Morse
Both of the new sprites are not good. I would say that the problem with them is that the actual storage component is not clearly separated. this is especially true for the gas storage. The gas is supposed to be inside the tank under the pressure, so the tank should look like it can withstand that pressure. So embedding some windows and measuring device right into the body of the storage is not very sound idea. In the old sprite all the supporting components were put on top of the storage, not embedded into its structure. I think that's what should be done with the new sprites: draw the storage component first, and then put all the needed parts (like valves, manometers, knobs) on top using rivets and screws. The artists should think more like engineers Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/95194-the-new-tank-sprites-feels-strange/#findComment-1082101 Share on other sites
Yunru
Eurgh, I just noticed the gas tank's window can also look like it's receding into the tank :/ Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/95194-the-new-tank-sprites-feels-strange/#findComment-1082226 Share on other sites

goboking
I don't have a problem with the new gas tank ,but the liquid tank looks ridiculous. I much prefer the original art over what we now have. Mooka
They are not even made of refined metal to look smooth like that. Gwido
I think it's more a matter of symmetry. These two lacks some deformation of theyr general shape. And also with the small valves. Sasza22
The water tank looks like a bigger storage compactor with the little animation it has. It would fit better if it was an upgraded solid storage instead (maybe with conveyor input). BlueLance
I think the designs would be better the opposite way around, the gas tank looks like a water tank, it even has a level gauge which I picture "Rising" with the water level. And then the liquid resevoir to me looks like a deoderant can, or like the top would rise and fall causing compression. which would be better for gasses not liquids.
