The most useful things are the only unrenewable things

Recommended Posts

Hi! As we can see the most useful things are the unrenewable things.

  1. Abyssalite. It melts into tungsten but no recipies from the tungsten???
  2. Raw Metals. I know it is mentioned fairly much, but maybe we can have something to be reverse of rock crusher, from sand and refined metal to raw metal?
  3. Wheezeworts. People say it is OP if it were breedable, but maybe make them larger (2x2?) and require direct sunlight and temp <50K to grow? Thats a great nerf for that.

Yeah and that concludes this post. Any ideas?

I would like to have at least one way to create everything, BUT there needs to be a big downside attached:

- Maybe you want more tungsten, why not smelt your abyssalite ... (both are unrenewable)

Doesn't wolframite melt to tungsten?  and it can be used for high conductive pipes?

Abyssalite melts at 3421.9 C, less than steel...

Go try refine all raw metals in a map and try building a mesh door. Then you know what it means by the lack of raw metals.

Ehhhh would take me a few thousand cycles to refine all of my metal (Bigger map) XD but with volcanoes giving you refined metal and it falling from the sky you should not need to refine all the raw metals, and I am sure there would still be tonnes left even if u build all your designs etc.

Use the usual 256x314(? I forgot the exact size of the vanilla map). I am sure 1/3 is non solid and 1/10 are the ores. Assuming an average mass of 500kg per tile, it is just 256x314/3/10*500=80384/30*500=1339733 1/3kg. 1 airflow is 100kg of raw metal, so it is just mere 13397 airflow tiles, don't forget the suits(using the copper ore only from start biome, which is 1/10 of the total ores), doors and other things.

Suits stack on ground... see how much suits you can make in 1 world...that leaves us with 9/10 of the metal left. 13397-1339.7=12057...

PS try a 200 dupe fully suited base

I'm not sure this is a fair example. I can push any resource, renewable or not, to its upper limit. I could easily say 'try sustaining 300 dupes on 2 steam geysers and no volcanos or 'try building 82,000 tiles on a vanilla map.'

The game is fairly consistent in that anything renewable is consumable and anything non renewable is non consumable. Renewables are limited by throughput and non renewables are limited by availability. I don't see a problem here.

I also had this problem with raw metals around cycle 400. It was terrifying. I destroyed all my refineries but one for steel production and I use mostly the iron from space. I replaced all my electrical cable with conductive ones to get back a bit of raw metal, and I don't have much more raw metal to mine on the map. I hope I didn't refined too much already !

It is my mantra to Never build with copper (Except at the beggining) refine all my gold amalgam and build everything else from iron.

I should change this around though so that I dont accidently use my gold needed in high temp areas

Wolframite and abyssalite melt into tungsten, but melting abyssalite is a bit more effort^^

I remember someone saying that stuff melting into tungsten is a temp result of a change in the state of matter.

Spoiler

I think I phrased that wrong...lemme try again.

Abyssalite melting into tungsten is just a temporary result, a placeholder until the devs add in more melted stuff.

That still sounded wrong, but that's the best I can manage I'm afraid. :wilson_cry:

I tend to keep my gold amalgam because it is the only raw metal that gives an overheat temperature bonus.

1000000% untrue. Minecraft for example, game was loved by tens of millions, amazing when modded everything is renewable to some degree.

THE KEY IS 2 THINGS

1. Rarity

2. Rewarding ingenuity and design with deliberate access to that rarity.

Things should be earned, even renewable things via hard work, clever machines and proper dupe leveling.

Klei should really look to big brother games Modded Minecraft and Factorio to see what methods work and what doesnt. They have a beautiful and unique game on their hands the last thing they need to do is deny any access to resource. Make it difficult, not impossible.

Kinda overselling it there ;) but I do see your point

Not a fan of mods myself but I know lots of other players love em'

Klei has proven to listen to players here on the forum so I'm sure they are working hard to balance the game so players get the most enjoyment

I'm not sure what you mean,

If for an example some one finds out how to make a build that farms rare resource we should be rewarded by no longer making that resource rare?

Since when abbysalite melts? Into tungsten?! Wolframite does that

Abyssalite has always done it from what I am aware, Also if some new player were to use all their copper they can deconstruct stuff that used it, or if they refined it they can survive without exo suits. It isnt the end of the world.
