Gênero e Jogos

Recommended Posts

Colabore!

Segue link do questionário, desde então grata!

Am I imagining this or this is actually the Cinthia Pissetti, the Game Studies scientist :o? My, I can understand the post on the basis of similarities between Portuguese (woefully not on my list of known languages) and Spanish, but to take the questionnaire, I fear the subtleties may be lost on me (and I obviously couldn't fill it in Portuguese). If this truly is Mrs Pissetti, is there any English/Spanish/Polish edition of the thing? Sorry for a bit of fangirling, but if this academical visited us, we should all embrace the opportunity for contribution to this field!

*proceeds to bite her fingers in order not to go write a begging post to @ImDaMisterL asking for help with translating her responses*

Well, it translated from Spanish well in google translate... I guess the languages are very similar?

They indeed have their similarities, and Google Translator's wonkiness doesn't help either.

I've definitely never seem any kind of different treatment given to women while playing games. People that do this may be ineffably stupid. Good luck with your TCC btw.

Eu definitivamente nunca vi alguem tratar outra pessoa diferentemente só por ser mulher enquanto jogo. Quem faz isso deve ser indescritivelmente estupido. A propósito, boa sorte com o TCC

They both are Roman languages and derive from Latin, but that means a lot of issues when using automatic translators, because all the subtleties are lost and false friends abound.

Never trust Google Translate. In this state, it won't render my job redundant :D.

Ohohoho.  You weren't here for my mercilessly-hit-on-and-accused-of-catfishing story, were you? Ohhhh, yeah.  I've actually experienced like, most of the major cliches now--in Don't Starve Together, no less!--and can tell you that yes, arsehole idiots like that are definitely out there and real.  The EXTRA-sexist icing on the jerk sundae?  The "You MUST really be a guy trying to trick me!" accusations happened...

...after I played WELL.*

I mean, sure, girl-gamers can exist--I mean, even unicorns gotta show up ONCE in a while or where did the legends _come_ from, right? but they obviously can't actually be GOOD at games!  _That_ requires a ding-dong!  For some reason.  Because obviously, true pro-gamer-level controllers are played with one's genitals.

...sigh.

(You can translate this if you want, but I have no idea how it'd go over.  : P)

...Notorious

*Actually not really.  What freaked the dude out was when I died of overheating in the winter.  Step one:  Set a tree on fire in the middle of a huge forest.  Step 2:  Stand close enough to it to get heated, but not IN the flames, and put your winter-gear on.  At some point you'll actually start losing health from this.  Repeat as necessary when the fire dies out.  Step 3:  Profit Die.

WHY did I do this?  Because my base had just been griefed by ANOTHER jerkface who was  hitting on me--really crudely, too--right as the Deerclops was coming and I was like "PHRACK it, I'm'a at least die dramatically!" and wandered off into the forest with my lighter.

To be honest, I had some fun while watching some random guy showing off his server to my wife.

I was taking a cig while she was helping some newcomers on our dedi. Then, this guy... This guy went crazy, asking her to visit his server.

After she finally agree, he was like "You can have everything, this is MY server, I will give you any item you want, etc, etc..." and "Look at me, I'm a Deerclops, look, now I'm a Dragonfly, no, wait, $#@% this mod, wait, don't leave, oh yeah, I got it, look, look!"

Yep, that was funny.
