No, Willow cut down the tree the Kitcoon is hiding inside of, and it fell out like the Piko Squirrels do when you chop their trees in the Hamlet DLC. I plan to edit the Meme and add little Kitcoons to it to help better understand the Meme but..

AHH HA!!

Technically they’re ALL DST characters, they may not be in the game or playable right NOW… but unless Klei wants to provide some lore that they escaped… they’re all still sharing the same “Constant” Together..

So even though they aren’t in the game “Don’t Starve Together” (yet..) they’re still trying to Not Starve Together within the constant itself.

Will they ever be brought into DST? It’s hard to say.. Warly Wormwood & Wagstaff was and they were all DS Single Player Characters.

In fact Wagstaff is currently doing only Klei knows what and that’s where they’ve decided to leave the game with its cliff hanger story plot until Season Two.

I assume that Walani, Wilbur, Woodlegs, Wheeler, & Wilba are all each out there somewhere still starving.

But anyway that’s getting too far off topic..

If my mind hasn't slipped too far from me, I believe KLei mentioned at some point the Forge/Gorge events as being experiments. Maybe they were ultimately ... failed experiments

Jokes aside... I loved both of these events. I hope they will get officialy reintroduced somehow, or at least tied in with the main lore.
