Cooked Food Randomly Spawning in the World?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that, when I play DST, there is ALWAYS a random location in which cooked food spawns. How, you might ask? Well, very simple, actually! The food spawns when you harvest, in any way, whether it's picking it out of the ground or killing for it, it spawns in a random amount (around 4-8) in a certain location. You will know if you're close when you harvest a food item and you hear a 'whoosh' sound, as you would hear when you add something to a fire, like wood.

For example, one time I killed a rabbit, harvested some berries, then a gobbler popped out.  I proceeded to kill that gobbler and then picked a green mushroom for later. A bit later, I settle down by a forest, cook one bit of food, then I hear the whooshing sound 9 times in rapid succession. "There must be guardian pigs nearby," I thought, Once it was day, I ran to the direction which I heard the sound, only to find a heap of food stacked on top of each other.

This occurrence happens in all the worlds I make, and is pretty amusing.

What do you guys think of this? ;)

If this is legit, maybe it was added last update because Klei is getting ready for a big update/story reveal, similar to the reveal of DST and SW.

Are they? Where'd you see/hear this?

edit: disregard post. misinterpreted it as declarative rather than speculative.

Did I miss something? How does magically appearing cooked food relate the story reveal of DST?

Maybe not directly, but how would you logically explain magically appearing cooked food?

Maybe Maxwell is giving our favorite survivors a hand?

Or... maybe not Maxwell, but someone or something else?

I dunno... random steaks seem more like a bug or something than a secret puzzle situation.

Sometimes I get this glitch too, and there will be a noise of a ghost moaning there. Sometimes a lone eyeplant sprouts and bites you but there's always dropped cook food at this random location. Always assumed to stay the hell away from it. or to mod in a cross so I may bless that cursed spot.

Eyeplants too, huh?  Sounds like it's at (0,0,0).  Any object that loses its position data winds up there.  Any script to spawn an object after a delay that loses the calling parent entity without cancelling the scheduled task won't have position data.  I've seen pigs appear there after their houses were smashed.

This is true. Happened to me on rare occasions.

I guess it's because when an item spawns it flies through the world to the player (that's just my theory... I don't have any other explanation for this) and sometimes it bugs out in some weird way and gets stuck in some weird place.

For me the more common bug is when I craft a backpack while wearing another bodyslot item, the backpack won't appear for me. It will appear in some random place on the map though.

As said before, this "random spot" is probably the center of the map. Any entity that has no position somehow but is still valid ends up there.

For instance, eyeplants that can't be placed properly are still spawned, thus end up at (0/0). This even happens in singleplayer.

I suppose when you cook food, it spawns a redundant copy, or alternatively eaten food doesn't get removed entirely. There's a wide array of possible causes.

Oh, sorry about not replying; I didn't opt this discussion to notify me about replies.

I want to see video proof of this before I hop on the hype train.

Sorry, can't do that, because I don't know/don't want to do that because I'm lazy. :D

Not just steaks, my dear friend; today, during my solo Woodie world, I got an egg from a Tallbird, then went to the magic food spot, and LO AND BEHOLD THERE WERE 5 COOKED TALLBIRD EGGS YEEEEEEE GIT FREE FOOD ALL DAY ALL NIGHT Also, those tallbird eggs I grabbed? Didn't even cook 'em; they are just sitting in my chest so I can be a bird mama. :D Also, I heard a TON of meteors (not the crashing sound, just the initial WOOSH sound) raining upon that spot, but nothing was there; only noise.

Sounds to me like everyone is wondering if this is true or not, and if everyone is wondering that it makes me wonder something else...

it makes my wonder how gr8 your Mettaton profile picture is.

Also, I'm not sure whether or not it's spawned at 0,0,0. I'll edit this when I find out!
