early game spear, and obviously i craft as fast as possible an ham bat.

when i make the shadow manipulator (first autumn) i start using only dark swords.

when i manage to kill the twins i use the shield as of the weapon of every day combat, dark sword is still used against bosses.

when rifts are active i use the shadow reaper because i just think it's better than the brightshade sword in almost any point of view.

I still use beefalo the most. I don't feel like I'm losing durability on weapons by fighting planar enemies with it, and when I'm on foot I just use dark sword because I have like 500 living logs and don't farm mushrooms so they've gotta go somewhere

various weapons are more interesting in DS in situations where weapon resource is lacking.

Was a while since i've last played DS, but i don't remember lacking resources for weapons? You can still just as easily kill a pig (and iirc DS didn't get the patch that reduced stunlockability of creatures like pigs and mactusks, unlike DST) or kill a catcoon with an axe before it is able to deal damage to you for the two meat for hambat or kill a beefalo, which have half the hp they have in DST.

Hambat in bundle wrap as soon as bee queens slain, unless I have an ornery beef. I also love using morning star in spring. Still do ocasionally.

My brain rewards me with dopamine when I use the least amount of resources for fights. Even if i could get more dps

I'm fan of refueled item. having less space for those armor and weapon ingredients is just a bless.

If I didn't use beefalos for 90% of my Wurt/Maxwell plays I would definitely use Shield of Terror, I love refuelable items! (if the Morning Star was refuelable it would become my main weapon for most of my existence)

The poll shows most weapons aren’t interesting to players.

This is a single choice poll of which you use the most, not which you find interesting. You are trying to look at the poll results in a skewed way to make them fit your preconceived notion of what you think.

If anything, this shows that the weapons are all very interesting and well balanced. Despite the fact that you can only pick one single option and they all have very different difficulties in obtaining and very different damages, no weapon even reaches a 23% usage rate. The easy to obtain spear sits at only 11%, the high damage dark sword only 22%, the infinitely usable ham bat only 18%, the all-arounder beefalo only 13%, the difficult to acquire & difficult to use shield at only 13%. As people's most used weapons. Not as weapons that people use, the weapon they use the most. You're acting like it's 70% dark swords and 30% ham bats, but these results show that there is a ton of variety and people seem to find the various weapons very interesting.

Ham bat was my go to for a long, long time. In a game where boss HP is cranked up a ton and where bosses usually took multiple swords to kill, the hambat stood proud as a weapon to face the looming dangers head on. I can confidently say I used that weapon for ~6-7 years outside of circumstances like fuelweaver and misery toad.

I did use the shield of terror for a bit, but I felt it was too iffy on forgiveness. If you got into a tense fight, it was very realistic for the shield to break and waste the item you spend a long time getting. Dark swords were mainly for the above circumstances, and the club was pretty much used as a bonus reward and I didn’t go out of my way to craft at all.

I did end up liking glass cutters a bit post champ, especially since boards and shards are very easy to mass produce. They still work quite nicely with volt goat chaud froid, provided you are okay with making a few restock areas in the caves in particular as they do break rather quickly.

...is it bad that when I first read "beefalo" used as a weapon, my first thought was NOT, "ride your trained beefalo into battle directly", but rather "get the herd pissed off at something enough that they stomp it for you"? :P I use bees as a weapon that way, too. One time I deliberately steered Deerclops through the killer bee fields, which worked WONDERFULLY.

Pay no attention to my rapidly draining health bar there. The picture lies. It went perfectly.
(To be fair, it was from cold, NOT the Deerclops _or_ the wasps.)

Anyway, I'm boring. Spear in early days, whatever random tool I have in my hand at the moment in the VERY first days (pre-finding-gold-for-a-science-machine), tentacle spike once I figure out where the swamp is. No I don't kill the tentacles myself. I just grab 'em off the ground where they lay as the spoils of war.

Being a vulture to the hard work of other creatures is fun. :)

...Notorious

Not "trying" per se. Just a naive conclusion. I don't stand by it.

not only naive, but I didn't put in too much thought. I was more of a spontaneous reply. And I realize it wasn't statistically logical.

If she doesn't get some planar weapon crafts exclusive to her, I give up.

she doesnt really need it, she already does more damage with both planar weapons than any other weapon (not included but she can get 109 with max reaper!)

Your data contradicts this severely.

She only deals 77 damage with the brightshade sword without the helmet. Often, I'll go day to day without head slot armor because she does far more damage with her crown.

Dealing with brightshades, I'll use shield of terror and enlightened crown because it deals enough damage to kill a brightshade in a single bloom opening. Why should I bother carrying around extra armor?

I like to use dragonfly as a reference to damage as you have an objective breakpoint which is stun. Wigfrid cannot stun dragonfly with either maximum damage reaper, max damage brightshade sword, Both of which are supposed to be the pinnacle of weapons in the game. Neither of them stun dragonfly.

However, enlightened crown and dark sword does stun dragonfly.

I disagree with both you and Horsheen's points with all my heart and soul because I am a wigfrid main.

Her new brightshade craft as a start should have a way for her to deal 85 damage without a helmet or other supplementary gear, but also have it deal a paltry 68 damage in the hands of everyone else.

So there's no incentive for her to mass craft this weapon for everyone, have the new weapon have an interaction with her inspiration bar.

I don't know why there are people who would choose to make the game worse for wigfrid mains just because of the points of view they hold that have nothing to do with them.

based enlightened crown user, tbh i completely forgot about wigfrid's unique crown interactions

Spoiler

wigfrid + brightshade sword + enlightened crown should be enough damage to stun dragonfly too though :0

Why? Brightshade sword only does 77 damage in her hands without a helmet. that's 8 less damage.

Even with dark sword and enlightened crown combo, you only barely stun dragonfly.

So no, it doesn't really.

This is what you said without the spoiler. I don't want any lack of clarity to be conveyed here. ^ This is not the case at all. This is false
