The way to fix cookie cutter cap

Recommended Posts

Ok, most of us know that cookie cutter cap is useless. It is quite expensive, protect less then football helmet. Tbh get down to the ruins and get thulecite crown is easier then swimming around to find salt formation.

So the way I suggest. Add resistance to stunlock, when wear this helmet. We  do not have any items use this mechanic (only if you have 100% resistance, like thulecite crown or bone armor).

It will be useful in quite a lot situations, but most importantly: in the monkey villages. Just remember all that cases, when you run away from nightmare monkeys horde, when angry monkey throw a poo into you, and terrorbeaks kill you ect. Due to hight durability one helmet will be enough for few dangerous runs and can save lifes:love_heart:

While I wouldn't complain about a buff, I think it should be noted that the cookie cutter cap's current design is to be a cheap armor that one can craft while already out at sea. It's not trying to compete with something like a thulecite crown and you aren't supposed to go to the ocean specifically to seek it out or anything.

Yeah maybe but did you personally ever made it in this case? I don't

I see why Klei do it, but it do not work like this

I remember a lot of my friends used to make it when it was introduced. Compared to a football helmet (which I feel is much more “on tier” then a crown), you exchange 10% protection for an extra 210 durability. That’s a respectable amount to gain from a side grade, and I feel like it fits the role well.

The only thing I would really want changed is the crafting cost (along with a bit of thorns damage). Cookie cutters when introduced used to drop a shell every single time, so making a hat with 4 shells wasn’t super difficult, but that was bugged. I do wish the cost was adjusted to use 1 less, since I do feel it’s just a tad too pricey if you are not mining salt consistently.

i find them easy to farm. I get quite a lot while farming salt. They do not provide enough protection, yes. That's why I put them on my spiders as webber. Thinking of using them on bunnymen sometime. I treat them as cheap disposable armor for followers.

It could also deal recoil damage with the spikes like a knock-off bramble husk

Honestly, when I saw it for the first time I thought it had that ability because I never had the courage to fight on a boat, so I never got to craft one. Now I don't craft it because I have better things to do with Cookie Cutter Shells (fix Pearl's House and leave the remaining ones in the ocean).

Absolutely I have! An initial trip to mine out a salt shoal gets you a ton of shells (+ that bonus monster meat), and then you basically passively gain more just from being at sea since they're one of the most common drops from Sunken Chests. I absolutely opt for cookie cutter caps above football helmets whenever I'm out there!

I think the joke is that it's supposed to be a side grade that's easily mass produced. I.E a cookie cutter.

Though, I do really want a thorns effect...

This reminds me of the exploding starfish from the original sonic the hedgehog games, so of course I want it!!

I make it all the time. It's about as good as a football helmet but looks way funnier. You're looking at this from the perspective of someone who hates the ocean and would only venture onto it for top tier strongest items in the game. That's why you don't like it.

The change I suggest didn't really change your usage of this item, but gives me, "someone who hates ocean" a reason to sail.

Actually I like sailing, just don't do it a lot cause I'm trying to make things as efficient as I can and wondering around on a boat without any particular goal isn't my playstyle

Love sailing, i make pearl bases all the time but i have maybe made it legitimately like 2 times. Id always rather make any other piece of armor

Edit the original post

Well, you're not particularly wrong.

Grumble Bees will only be allowed to stun you in the hit animation every .5 seconds when wearing the Beekeeper hat. It's a bit hard to notice but it's there, without the beekeeper hat there is no cooldown. It's an interesting but niche mechanic. Could be neat to have it show more of a prescence in the game.

I think I wouldn't mind the cookie cutter cap where it's at if it didn't require an alchemy engine honestly? Speaking in my experience I don't place alchemy engines on my boat when starting out because I don't usually need to. The ocean is nice in the aspect that it doesn't require that many alchemy engine crafts, so I'm not encouraged to make one on my boats. So I never get to make cookie cutter caps until I'm back ashore at which point I usually just have better access to more football helmets. If it was science machine only, or heck even just science-less I might make it as a starting out armor. Unsure though.

Oh... I heard something like this a while ago but didn't know how exactly it's works. Thank you for clarification!

Increasing the resistance of the football helmet to 90% also wouldn't change how I play the game. Every single item doesn't need to be the best at everything. If you "need a reason" to sail, then don't sail. If there's really good things in the ocean people complain that they're being "forced" to do content they don't like. If you don't like sailing, don't do it.

Imo this is a really cool item, but agreed it is never used because of what you said.

it should have at least the same protection as a football helm with double the durability. Maybe that add increased rain protection.

Football helm is so easy to farm, cooky cutter is basically impossibly to farm and it’s stats currently make it usable. Could be such a cool item with small changes.
