Wagstaff: Dont Starve as a playable DST character might be my biggest wish.

I mean, its Wagstaff: Dont Starve! what else reasons you need to like him?!

Tho Im afraid he might be too meta and based to let himself become playable character in DST, have you seen how many non sense skins and changes we got for already existing characters?

In general: I enjoy the concept of new characters, because well for one I don’t own a PC and have access to the billions of mods that Pc players are completely spoiled by.

And 2- A character and their Playstyle is what you spend 95% of the game interacting with, and the more different playstyles Klei can offer me- the better.. since I own Don’t Starve + All it’s DLC Expansions, and DST- I own the entire “current” Dont Starve Franchise, I’ve played as every playable character that’s ever been part of the franchise- and more importantly.. I love being able to pick one based on the playstyle I’m in the mood to play with at that time.

Unfortunately to play as Wagstaff, Wheeler, Wilba, Walani, Woodlegs or Wilbur I need to play Solo Don’t Starve- but the ironic thing about that is: The DLCs for Solo DS all share something called DLC Compatibility- Meaning I can play as Shipwreckeds Walani in Hamlet or Reign of Giants.

This is what particularly makes me ANGRY with DSTs existence, DST is sold as and I quote a “Stand Alone Expansion” which is its biggest issue- since it’s Stand Alone… it doesn’t need to be Compatible with the previous DLCs, but it’s still an Expansion Pack- And I feel that if I own the base game and all it’s DLCs (yes DST is technically a DLC) then DST SHOULD share the same compatibility traits that SW/HAM & ROG have.

And if it DID. I could play as Walani in DST, or Wurt in Hamlet.. (haha..) and we wouldn’t have to “Beg” Klei to add Wagstaff as Playable.

But with things like the Wonkey Curse almost completely replacing Wilbur, and Wagstaff showing up in DST as an NPC.. I’m not sure that Klei has any plans at all to add DLC compatibility with the other expansions.

DST being able to be Stand Alone is what ruined our chances of having the base game+it’s DLC+ DST all share compatibility.

The single solitary exemption in this compatibility is DST… and it honestly really freaking sucks.

I Wish DST would’ve been sold only as a DLC to the Base game, then it would of course share compatibility with the other expansions right?

So this is me, saying +1 for Wagstaff in DST if I can already pick him in RoG, SW & Hamlet.

In a perfect world that's probably what would have happened. But DS getting DLC after RoG was never part of their original plan, so it made sense to just make a separate game for multiplayer since it required re doing the game anyway.

Shipwrecked wasn't even planned to be a DLC to the base game, all that world merging stuff came in after negative reception and the work done to backport SW/Ham to DS has split the code up even further from any chance of parity with DST.

Wagstaff: Don’t Starve is hands down (no competition) the most trash DS character for gameplay. Unplayable outside of Hamlet and DS (not RoG! DS the base game).

His downside is that he gives people with myopia eyestrain. His myopia tricks your eyes into compensating for the blurriness effect. (I hope you brought pig skin.)

He’s only viable in Hamlet because his glasses makes him immune to becoming fatigued by the high humidity. I mean what the heck? How does that make sense?

In SW and RoG he’s of course a complete chore since he is naturally allergic to the Eyebrella/Dumbrella.

His nightvision goggles are nice way to eat through resources (compared to just using moggles/minerhat).

His teleportation is limited if you’re making something more intricate than a two-way portal. And then there’s Wanda…

His “chomper” is nice though if you want to gather wood without using setups like the pinecone exploit (but maybe that is now patched in the DS beta?).

He did get released when Hamlet was out. But note that he was added to the base game. And that makes a lot more sense: seasonal headgear is 80% more optional in the base game, so wearing glasses all the time is pretty viable.

Can’t we just start a PC fundraising for Mike already.

Wagstaff's probably my favorite character in Don't Starve. Sadly, I don't think he'd translate very well to DST.

His downside's one of the most impactful in the game. So, so many players are dependant on the head slot for whatever utility they may need. Armor, seasonal protection, sanity management, what have you. So what better way to change how players approach the game than too make a character who's super dependent on that slot?

His crafts are also what Winona wishes her buildings were. Thumper is a personal bearger available from day 1, Telepad and Telebrella give him incredible mobility and time management for a low cost. And then all his different goggles with unique utilities and effects. Even the basic spectroggles reveal the location of hidden tentacles and flumps.

But... that's also why he wouldn't work in DST. All those things? He'd be an even worse "Swap character" than Winona. Sure, you could just blacklist anyone else from using his devices. But that would make him the exact opposite of a team player. He would really need a perk that's truly his own if he were to be playable in DST. And I sure hope he won't be locked in NPC Purgatory forever.

Probably unpopular opinion but I’d rather Winona to get more contraptions and fill his role as the inventor.

agreed, since there are still only 2 gadgets that winona players actually use

Take your pills old man, the future is now

If Wagstaff was added I would really appreciate if his release also came with a big Winona update. I get that the idea of having two characters having similar roles is common, but I feel like Wagstaff would greatly if not completely overshadow Winona, because I feel his inventions are way more applicable in a casual setting. :wilson_curious:

On one hand, a cool addition to Wagstaff's kit, if he ever comes to dst, could be something with his holograms, now that we know for certain he's really good with those. On the other hand, I don't really know how could they implement it in a way that wouldn't be similar to Maxwell or Wortox/Wanda.

Previously, I wholeheartedly wished that Robert was added to the list of characters for DST. Now it became much more interesting for me to watch him from a position like Charlie's. He literally crosses paths with her, and this arouses more interest in him than if he were just a game character.

I have a feeling that both Wagstaff and Charlie may end up becoming playable characters, as like sort of Unlockables you can earn from fully completing both their sides of the quest tree.

With Charlie in Particular I hope we get to “Rescue” her from the shadows influence over her, and the real main villain who’s been controlling her body all this time makes it’s presence known.. however- Charlie as a playable character never really goes back to fully being just human, so she retains some of those Shadow powers.

Wagstaff, i would like to see as playable in DST after completing his Moon Quest and finding the “Real” Wagstaff stuck within the constant somewhere, we know that the real Wagstaff got pulled in during Winona’s Animated short, so all this Hologram business is just extra Fluff. The real deal is in there somewhere.. and he’s probably up to no good.

I don't think Klei is planning to add Wagstaff to DST. They were giving away his perks left and right to other characters. Wanda and Wortox have telepotation. Wurt can see hidden tentacles (tentacle is the only thing in DST that's currently hidden.

I think he can be expanded to fit into DST but there is no good reason to do so considering we already have Winona. People who didn't play the single player would be very confused if they added a second engineer character when the first one isn't fully fleshed out.

I like his role as an NPC in DST.

He has really pushed the lore of the game in a big direction as an NPC as well.

Not to mention that if he did become a playable character, it would get so confusing, i.e., a playable Wagstaff helping the NPC Wagstaff get his own tools for the storm?

I think that Wagstaff's position as an NPC has long been solidified in DST.

It was shown in Wilson’s short that despite getting sucked into the portal in Winona’s short, Wagstaff got out of the Constant.

I want all of the DS characters in DST, including the missing Shipwrecked and Hamlet peeps, and definitely Wagstaff. I see people arguing that he's simply not good and wouldn't work well for DST, admittedly something I can't weigh in on since I don't even own DS, but in my opinion that's greatly underestimating Klei's ability to rework characters to be just that bit better. I'm positive that if they do add him, he'd fit right in. And then give us Wilbur you cowards! He'd be great in Waterlogged with just a little bit of work.
