The change of art colors is confusing

but this is kind of a generic direction to go in.

Why would a color be generic? Both are very popular colors that change their meaning depending on the context. The truth is that pink is red in the context of the ruins. If the pig is supposed to be related to the ruins, it must be red.

Plus red and black color combo reeks of a totally evil-in-a-cool-way OC do not steal, their eyes turn red when they're angry and they wear all black, very very evil and bad and-

Oh yeah, Wilson is so edgy with his red shirt and black pants. And Willow? Don't make me talk about her. She has a red shirt, a black skirt AND (you won't believe it) white eyes. What's more edgy than empty white eyes?

I think every person has different edgy standarts. Some could even say that the art style of Don't Starve itself is edgy.

Same applies to the pig. Looked better in magenta, red could be mistaken for scars, all the stuff that folks have already said

I would like the fissures on his eye and arms to bright, be more shattered and longer. Like that it would be clear that they are not simple scars.

To me, it seems that nighmare fissures are the odd one out. Makes more sense to make them pink since everything else is.

Fuelweaver is red too (or at least, the red-pink color instead of the magenta color). Even once you remove the color cubes from the atrium.

Anyways, yes, the ruins stuff is pink/magenta when you get rid of the color cubes. However, you’ll never see this ruins stuff without the color cubes (excluding ruins turf outside the ruins and nightmare ramparts, ig), so it’s completely irrelevant wether or not the redness is caused by color cubes. They ARE red; or at least, more often than they are pink. Besides, even in promotional media (such as the new reign trailer) this stuff is red. If nightmare stuff was actually canonically pink, and only looked red because of color cubes, then why would it be red in animated shorts and trailers?

Everyone that hasn't explicitly said they liked the pink has said this so far but I... don't actually see the red in the Ruins with the colorcubes.(?)

Anyhow I'm assuming people wanted the Werepig to be red to fit into the caves, right? Making him red and then putting him under the colorcubes doesn't change much of anything.
Leaving him pink and then putting him under the filters actually makes him 'red' like everything else. It's about working with the colorcubes, not against them.

Everything from the moon collection is absurdly bright in the menus but in-game they're all fine, for example.

Currently with the new red arms he kinda comes out orange-ish in the filters, something I'm not personally a fan of.
Lighting also seems to play a lot into the visuals.

Bring back the Pink! Bring back the Pink! Burn the Falsehood at the stake!

Pink is a great contrasting color to represent the idea of corruption. It works great in the ruins, and it worked great with the Werepig, the combination of dark colors and shining pink made for a really nice contrast, when most other media/games goes for Purple(Not a bad choice, but it was interesting to see Dont Starve use Pink to represent corruption instead). The new "red", doesnt have the same feeling, and comes off generic. It ain't even a red as mentioned! It comes off as a yucky orange in game. Now unless this means theres actually a Hollow Knight crossover coming and its revealed the Werepig is corrupted by the Radiance, the new color doesnt really look that good as was before unfortunately.

From the above photos he actually does look more orange then red now.

I preferred the grayish/pink colors for both the pig and the armor set myself personally.. it’s just what I’ve always known it to be portrayed as and it felt weird to suddenly have that color changed to red.

Of course Klei could do some pretty cool stuff with red, such as making fuel pour from a mobs eyes to look like blood- buttt I don’t think they’ll do that so the brighter I guess you can say enchanted and glowing “pink” seemed more fitting.

Before we stick with the above orange-ish look, might I suggest bright lime green? Hey look I’d prefer pink, green, purple or even blue over the current red/orangish look.

At least it’s not Yellow though, my least favorite color haha

I feel like, if this is indeed an update that will lead us to more of this new shadow stuff in the future i think it's best to differentiate it away from our beloved Ruins color palette. This isn't our regular fuel shenanigans we've got going on and if we don't want the new shadow stuff, biomes, weapons, and whatever else might be coming our way to look like ruins 2 i think this is the better option. Just my 2 cents around it.

Here is another comparison of what the Nightmare Werepig looks like with color cubes applied for each iteration of its design.

For each sprite in the image, a single color cube (or none for first sprite) is applied and they're shown in this order:
(1) No Color Cube - (2) Caves - (3) Ruins Calm Phase - (4) Ruins Warning/Dawn Phase - (5) Ruins Nightmare Phase

I cannot thank you enough for this. Love your work.

Even after being shown these, I'm still pretty firm sitting with the first pink design. It contrasts so much better compared to the red.

If the new glowing effects and eye particles were kept with the pink coloration, that'd make for the absolute PERFECT blend in my eyes.

Also, is it me or did the forearms downgrade a lot in the latest version? "Texture" wise at least.

(Darker red is the newest one.)

I personally thought the pale red in the second interaction blended a little better with the fur, but you definitely have a good point. Ruins pink is much more interesting conceptually than whatever’s going on with this red.

I’d suggest going for a paler pink, but there’s a chance it’d look less like a. otherworldly corruption and more like bald patches. Maybe layering in different shades might work? I dunno. It’s worth experimenting with atleast.

Pretty in Pink is now out! A simple client side mod to restore Dreadstone and the Daywalker to their original pink colors!
