The most useless branch at my discretion. I'm definitely not going to pump it in any survival A new station, unique to Wilson, would look much more interesting. The idea of a skill tree is very good and interesting to study, but what skills they offer us to study sound less impressive and even boring. A branch with a torch will become unnecessary after the first few days when we get a lantern or a miner's hat. A branch with a beard just doesn't make any sense and doesn't offer anything interesting. The beard still grows and warms you in the cold winter. What else is offered there? Oh, yes, additional slots that are designed only for food while not slowing down its spoilage in any way. The branch with alchemy is not bad, but I would like to modify it somehow. Wilson positions himself as a gentleman scientist, but there is nothing of a scientist and a gentleman in this rework. Why couldn't some science-related things be added for him? Klei, please don't leave Wilson in such limbo. Wes is defined by being challenged and morally rewarded, Wortox is played for his trickster-like ability to teleport. It might not even be the character's main ability, just their most memorable quirk. Torch, Alchemy and Beard skills do not create a personality nor a playstyle, they are not streamlined enough to have an effect. I would love to see a focus on his medical background or that fan concept of a mad scientist who gets powerful yet dangerous crafts when under 5% sanity, but I don't think you would change so much during Beta. Instead, I can suggest a way to make this existing rework more character defining and help Wilson find his core in 2 steps: Wilson's beard is a good character core. Not only is it noticeable, but it also has 2 important perks: it helps him revive and dissapears with death. It almost screams trying to avoid and cheat death and does something important for a default character: rewards simply surviving. The only problem is that it's not really rewarding. Ability to store food in the beard is an amazing step in this direction, but, unfortunately, it is the only actual skill in the tree of "7". Add the beard carpets from Hamlet. Allow to shave off only 1 beard level so that insulation vs. beard hair stops being a choice. Maybe actually add a beard meter which gives one free prototype when achieving 100% to emphasize the researching nature of Wilson? Make the beard rewarding, make players glad that they lived for long enough to get it. Make enduring death the core of Wilson. Those are small tweaks but they would make Wilson a more focused character that rewards not dying. Alchemy offers an amazing set of skills, but they do not feel Gentleman Scientist. Wickerbottom or Maxwell could possess this skill lorewise, all the characters could have transmutation, it would be the same if it's just a recipe to turn meat into morsels. A core is not just power, it is the role we take when selecting the survivor. An interesting animation different to basic crafting would provide enough stylistic difference to his abilities. Be it mixing contents of two tubes or turning a stone to gold in his hands, it would visually scream FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE and science and provide both a narrative and more unique-feeling gamestyle, thus creating a core. all the love to you and thanks for so much hard work! <3 I completely agree. This opinion may not coincide with yours. Just accept it. Wilson was and remains a hallmark of the Don't Starve series, described as a gentleman scientist with knowledge from various fields. This revamp does not emphasize his features in any way, and it does not even give him any advantage in cooperative play with other players. The inspyration point system as a whole is pretty good, but the same inspyration was in the Wigfried rewrite. I propose to think of another name, for example "Enthusiasm"? The "Torch" tab. - Increasing the duration and radius of the flame of the torch is a very interesting thing, but only at the beginning of the game, until you get replenishable light sources (lamps, miners helmets, crotoculars) I propose to increase the above parameters not only for the torch, but also for lamps and mining helmets, since we use them quite often. - But the ability to throw a torch into the ground I do not see any great practical application. (You can, of course, save the player on the server, throwing him a torch at his feet, but this is an exception) The "Alchemy" tab. The mechanics of resource exchange is very interesting, but it is not very well implemented. I would like to note the animation of the craft, it is standard. But I think it can not be called alchemy, as there are no tubes, flasks and solutions in them, maybe make it so that he shook the tubes or poured from one to another. The exchange itself does not seem equivalent or really necessary. Transmutation (1 log for 2 branches? That's absurd) Transmutation ores (especially stage 2, gold is not such an inaccessible resource, but if the exchange was reversible (1 gold nugget for 3 saltpeter) it would be very useful, both for new worlds, and for long-playing. Transmutation gems - all tabs, I do not see the point in this tab as in the beginning of the game, and later, this skill makes no sense to be in the ruins and farm there these very gems, especially in the later stages of the game red and blue gems you have a lot. (And 1 step should be recycled, because it is much easier to scrap 1 purple gem than to exchange). Was pleased with the creation of the rainbow gem, a huge plus for that. 3 transmutation - like I said above, I don't see this skill of necessity, but the exchange of hound's fangs for pieces of bone pleased me. The "Beard" tab. I think it's only necessary for newbies who often die and they need scraps of beard to craft meat stuffed animals for resurrection, why store food in the beard and how over time the beard starts to grow faster? What does his learnedness have to do with the growth of his beard? I will not take apart the "Affinity" tab, since it is not yet finished. Maybe with the release it will change, but that's just the way it is now. I'm by no means saying that the game is bad, I repeat, I expressed my opinion. The idea of the skilltree is quite good, but some crafts and perks seem to be absolutely pointless to me. Firstly, lets speak about Wilson's best perks - transmutation. Gem transmutation. It's not OP, but its... a bit boring and useless. You can craft a purple gem using 9 red, while you also can craft the same gem using 1 red and 1 blue. Iridescent gem itself can be used only ONCE PER GAME in the archive. Wilson can craft it using all kinds of gems. But as for me, its easier to spend 2 yellow gems and activate a moon platform event which is easy to complete without even cheesing. And as it's said, wilson pretends to be a gentleman scientist and he knows something about nightmare creatures, because he was the king of The Constant. He could craft some unique stations to craft his very own and useful stuff, or simply do something with his beard not to be OP. I'm just glad we are finally done with these refreshes and we can hopefully move onto more substantial gameplay related content. I desperately need klei to give us an update on the big plans for 2023 comments they made a year ago after supposedly setting the stage with their previous update efforts. Thats all i really care about at this point. No there was supposed to be 3 setting the stage content updates with last years roadmap, however that roadmap got shortened down to just 2 StS updates, and the upcoming Wilson rework. Those two updates were: Curse of Moon Quay & A little bit of Drama. i’m still trying to figure out WTH the connection between the two updates are (if there’s any at all) Setting the Stage updates was intended to well uhh “set the foundation for what’s coming next” It SEEMS Klei maybe blending Wilson’s Rework with the other Setting the Stage content update. Since it introduces some new NM Fuel 2.0, some new Boss, and new armor types. But if these 3 updates were intended to set the stage for what comes NEXT I still can’t figure out the Connection between them. Well I mean.. if “I” was designing the game, they added this Stage which so far only seems to exist to dress up and give newer players some lore.. BUT the newest update also has some pillars that have some Nightmare Infused pig chained to them that those pillars contain DreadStone on the inside of them. So if “I” was to design it I’d let players return to this stage to give the moving Harp Statue DreadStone & Pure Horror perhaps used to summon “Charlie” I mean.. it is a “Stage” and I’m pretty sure somethings gonna make it’s grand appearance from behind that curtain.. What do the Moon Quay pirates have to do with any of it? At first, new boss part: I really like new piggy, great design and animations, loot is pritty good, I hope you guys will don't forget about dreadstone as moonglass. Wilson refresh part: ideas and new mechanics is really good, but I didn't like the implementation, some functions of the skill tree don't make sence after 20 days of playing, something don't make it at all like amethyst recipe, why should I spend 9 red gems for one amethyst when I can make one from 1 red and 1 blue gems? Beard with extra slots is very cool idea, but it useless, because you only can put food there, I think not so much players has three slots of food in their inventory. I know maybe you see Wilson as a newbie-friendly character, but I hope you give to our beloved beardy man some love. Thanks for your work, I wrote it with love to you and your games. Look if the Eye for an Eye update could add a new Eye critter for defeating the Eye of Terror, then Daywalker/Nightmare Werepig can have a super cute pet den version too! Also if 3 Red Gems = 1 Blue then for everything that’s sane: Make Wilson a way to craft Red Gems without needing Gems Nitre, Gold, Charcoal IDC. Finally lots of people have been requesting a way to “Trim” beards to desired lengths.. this should be a feature that both Wilson & Webber can share. I think would be really good if the rework focused more about Wilson slowly becoming a better alchemist.
