I haven't built statues in a while now. what has changed?

Most of them are terribly small compared to what they were before. Some of them (particularly, the kitcoon statue and the twins statue) were so big to the point that they gave a really nice sense of verticality, now theyre kind of lame and sad and i hope this beta doesnt go by without that being addressed.

It's similar to what Wanda has, just a toned down version. If Wolf got hit a few times in a row he loses his damage multiplier and becomes Wilson. If Wanda gets hit a few times in a row she loses her damage multiplier and becomes a spooky ghost.

If you liked needing to be careful in combat in exchange for big damage you might like Wanda. Try her out.

I liked that there was more room for mistakes with Wolfgang and that I could take action to compensate my mistakes. I'll try her out sooner or later

One of my favourite things about Wanda is if you take fatal damage and you have enough health, you can quickly use the Ageless Watch to cancel that damage. So that would simulate something similar to what you had when losing mightiness to hit, but the room for error is very very small.

There’s going to be a lot of upset kids who play this game when they find out the hound wave/depth worm wave bug has been patched.. But: This game was never meant to be a peaceful base building simulator, it is advertised & sold as an uncompromising survival game.

There are options to turn certain features that may annoy you off.. Utilize it.

I also expect the Lureplant/stagehand exploits to be fixed at this rate- loving every second of it. <3 good job Klei & it was really thoughtful of you guys to provide a Kitcoon freezing option for the Mini-Game.

    • While we always want feedback about our game, we recognise that this isn’t everyone's favourite mechanic, and as such if you don’t like hound waves or depth worm waves, you can always change their spawning properties in the world settings for your world.

uh oh

Hopefully the mightiness loss was significantly ramped up, like 2x or something, otherwise Wolfgang is now just going to be back to being massively better than the rest of the cast after the pile of buffs in this QOL.  The loss on hit concept was really cool and resulted in an interesting character with upsides and downsides.

I think a better choice than increasing might loss which will be annoying to most is to add in a different downside.

Wolfgang hasn't been better than the rest of the cast for a long time. The so called "Meta Trio" was disbanded soon after the Wendy rework, and hasn't been anything but a relic of the past since.

Wolfgang is still a balanced character without this downside, and matches up with the power of Wigfrid and Wanda.

(I would like a more sanity based downside as well, but whatever)

It went from 0.069... per minute to 0.2 per minute, so it's effectively 3x faster.

Matching up with Wanda, who overshadows the rest of the cast in terms of power, is a bit of a questionable argument.

Downsides also actually make a character interesting to play.  An engaging downside to work with would be much more interesting and fun than "might number now drops faster no matter what".

Maybe I am missing something?  Is Wolfgang's current downside after QOL only "has high sanity loss until you adopt a critter, and do .75x damage in wimpy"?  Hard to keep track of current state.

Ok well that seems high enough to be balanced but also pretty annoying and not particularly enjoyable?

What if Klei just kept the getting hit losing points downside, but instead of losing might Wolfgang loses sanity?   And then put might loss rate back to .069.

It’s not just Wendy that made Wolfgang no longer the OP thing he used to be: it’s also other amazing stuff such as being able to get a Beefalo as early as Day 1 and ride it around gathering resources without ever having to dismount.

Beefalo is a Walking Cane, Armor & Weapon all rolled up into one nice little furry companion.

Even Wolfgang’s moving heavy stuff faster then everyone else perk takes a back seat (pun fully intended) to Beefalo.

In fact: maybe Klei should patch it so players can only put statues on a Beefalo once it’s been 100% tamed.. at least THEN early game use of Wolfgang’s carrying statues perk would be Useful.

And maybe at the same time they can take away Wanda’s ability to move statues through Wormholes.. if Moving heavy stuff is supposed to be Wolfgang’s thing, other characters/mobs shouldn’t easily outclass him at it.

If you pick Wendy.. you pick her knowning your about to mass slaughter, Spiders/Hounds/Frogs/Bees any “Group Swarm Mob” that’s Wendy’s Role & no other character does it better than her.

The problem with Wolfgang is: Several other characters & mob buffs still do his job better than he can.

Thats something all these buffs/nerfs to Wolfgang isn’t going to fix.. they need to make changes elsewhere (such as my above suggested Beefalo not being able to carry heavy stuff for you until fully tamed with groomed fur)

Time capsule comment from someone who hasn't played since they started reworking characters.

Klei added Walter and we all know how that went.

Mike, do you hate having fun? Just because there are alternatives, doesn't mean that everything else is useless

My point here is that that was the first time that those characters were overshadowed.

What I meant here was that Wolfgang matches Wanda in terms of combat power (arguably being better due to not getting instantly killed from any and all attacks that hit multiple times).

He's basically a more forgiving Wanda without the bonus utility.

Experimenting with new filter icons

These new filter icons are much better compared to the old black ones! I agree with Sinanco that

it would be perfect if the icon quality could be higher, which I assume will be if they are settled upon.

The only other thing is I think the health and magic skull should be red not orange :wilson_love:!

  • Upon reviewing the motivation behind losing might when getting hit, we have decided that it was not achieving its purpose, and when comparing him to other characters it was deemed unnecessary. Therefore, it has been removed.
  • The rate the Woflgang passively loses might has been increased.

Thank you very much for listen the feedback.

I don’t know.. “Fun” is subjective to the player, to me I have more “Fun” moving heavy items as Wolfgang actually feeling MIGHTY then I do literally watching an Idle Animation of Wendy plucking a Flower while Abigail single handedly wrecks and clears out an entire Angry Bee Biome.

Now I ask you which is more “Fun” to you? Moving Statues as Wolfgang or Standing Idle watching Abigail kill a biome full of Bee’s?

”Fun” is subjective to the player…

But if Wolfgang’s perk is intended to make Wolfgang useful, it fails when people just rush Beefalo.

Mike there's this thing called an alternative. It's like when you used Figs or Barnacles to fuel your hunger instead of Meatballs. Alternatives allow people to play however they want. Wolfgang's perk is not worse nor better than Beefalos because they are alternatives to each other! People who play Wolfgang can take advantage of the perk but people who don't will use Beefalos. That's what an alternative is

  • Only wimpy Wolfgang will use the punch animation when attacking with dumbbells.

Thank you for these changes. I can confidently say that now Wolfgang is finally a fully refreshed character that is in a better state than he previously was.

Alright, I have a hot take on this change. I am personally not affected by this change since  I am used to dealing with late-game hounds, even during boss fights and with a mega base (praise Weather Pains), though it was certainly convenient. And with the changes to the hounds + the Vargling, I think it's fine.

However, I've got to ask, does that imply that a way to start rain in Summer is no longer floating around? Cause by the logic in the bullet point, the same reasoning would apply, just disable wildfires. I know that a lot has since been added to the game since that statement (ie. the settings QoL), but I'm personally not a fan of setting the trend of "just disable it" since it's not really an interesting solution to me that addresses the core issue of the problem.
