Loading Screen Suggestions Thread

Recommended Posts

Here's a thread for all of yours suggestion regarding loading screen tips and lore nuggets.

A nice, single thread where Klei can gather all of the informations regarding the potential that we see in this newfound part of the game.

My suggestions from the other thread:

-Explain Crabs' existance and make Crows more than just a seasonal event. Some lore about the Constant's humanoid species.

-...that is except the Ancients. Their lore is what I'd call one of the pillars of ds/t story and reducing it to a loading screen flavour text would be wrong

-...that being said expanding on the new Ancient Guardian and revisiting its story I wouldn't mind

-Something about the Forge and Gorge. Klei, for the love of God, stop acting like the gateway arc never happened. Do what you will with Forge, but when it comes to Gorge... I'd like you to simply give us hope that you haven't forgotten Mumsy and Billy and that they might come to the Constant.

-Some bits of semi-lore-heavy conversations of the survivors: 'You know what happened here don't you? This place is overflowing with that fuel of yours... Speak. Up.' or 'When we came back to this plane they were nowhere to be seen. The crossing disappeared and God knows where they might be now...'

-Some flavour text regarding singleplayer's dlcs. Somethin along the lines of 'I'm telling you, every time I tried to flee I just ended up in a different part of this hell!'

-'The more peices of the altars we gather the weirder he acts. And that's a lot given his usual behaviour'

How about using the real old field notes Wilson did wayyy back then. They would fit perfectly for this. Though might need to make em shorter.

On that note: this would be the perfect note to tell new players about there are ways to cheat death via meat effigies and touch stones

Something about chester being able to transform into shadow or ice chester in the full moon.

Something telling the player to use the Shadow Atrium on the Odd Skeleton, that the Odd Skeleton has to be built correctly, and that depending of where you revive it, it spawns something different.

As far as unknown mechanics go, there could be new quips/quotes about things non-technical. Seems like some of the tips may be too long to be read before the game finishes loading, so keeping them short and sweet would be best. For loading screens, I think it would be beneficial if there were a "Next Tip" button, to let players cycle through tips.

"Legend has it, too much monster meat brings out the animal in a pig".

"Sewing Kits work well on Thermal Stones too".

"Gobblers love fermented berry bushes, but prefer to hide come dusk and night".

"Chester may change come a full moon if he's packed with certain items".

"Mini-Glaciers can't stand the heat of a fire, but be warned, they do not return".

"Eyeplants don't grow well on certain ground, nor on boats."

"Thankfully Worm Holes don't eat what you give them, they just spit them out on the other side".

"Tree Guardians forgive only when you plant enough pinecones near them".

"Mushrooms perform different when cooked, and change form when haunted".

"You may not like One-Man Bands, but farm plants love them".

"Be wary of a Volt Goat in a thunderstorm".

"It's theorized Antlions love eggs and trinkets".

"Sometimes a couple twigs in a crockpot can help to make a filling meal".

"Frogs and Spiders are rather susceptible to traps as well".

"Lunar magic has a weird effect on the bodies of hounds, bring a torch".

For the lore bits, I'd love to see reference of the characters interacting with each other. Wortox leading the kids in pulling pranks (each with their unique spin on the prank). Winona wondering why her machines keep burning...(Willow? Wilson messing with them?) Wickerbottom lecturing Maxwell on using her books.

Maybe you can try asking the player questions about the world, like "Have you done the moon event?" or like "Try fighting the big tentacle underground, you don't know where it might lead..."

IDK for me when I was newer to the game as its so large I found it hard sometimes to find everything the world has to offer. Even now I think I know everything until I find something that I didn't know before. I think snippets that share clues of things to do in the world might be pretty cool and especially helpful to newer players. similar to hints but more to help inform the player of the vast things to do in the constant.

Helpful and adds to Wilson's character. would be reminiscent of ONI where the narrative is written in the perspective of a scientist at Gravitas.

I'd like to see some loading tips where it's just Charlie talking, there used to be these old comments in the code that were charlie talking which was really cool, but kind of meh since it was only in the code.

Especially if those comments are also directed at Maxwell. Adds the creep-factor.

Some odd facts about the animals in the Constant:

Stuff like how the beefalo has 37 stomachs and requires constant feeding

The tallbird's brain is in the eye.

Rock Lobsters are the very distant cousins thrice removed of slurtles and snurtles

The Nox

Pengulls come from the North, also know as Woodie's home country

The Toadstool likes knitting

What happened to Major Tom

Oddities like that
