How to unlock fps ?

Recommended Posts

Hi to all. I want to play this game with 144 fps. How can i unlock 60 fps lock? I have 144hz monitor so i want to play in 60fps. We are in 2022 , and there are still games which have 60 fps lock (elden ring, dst...). Why? Just why? Technology is constant. Improve..

Please, stop saying stuffs such as "why do you want more fps in this game or something else" (I searched before creating topic, ended having this kind of results)

Thanks..

yeah I doubt fps above 60 would do anything at all in this game considering how the animations work lmao

144fps mouse movement is plenty for me tbh

thats what i say. Thats annoyin really.

Have you tried beating every boss under ten minutes?

What is this about?  I asked,  you asked. Whats reason? Not helpful. And thx to DEVS for making game stuck at 60fps

There is no First Person Shooter in DST, sorry

Doesnt have to be. Why would only FPS have to be 144fps. What kind of logic? You old brained.

There is no way to unlock the FPS option.

Increasing your FPS would be mostly redundant anyhow as the games animations are at 30 FPS.

Why is "better" redundant? Why? Are we in 90s? 2000s?

People forget that some monitors pair poorly with certain framerates.

Game running in 60 fps on some high refresh rate monitors may feel "jittery" like you are running it in 20-30 fps.

And in some cases this can cause a mouse cursor lag.

As for removing the fps cap from DST i am not sure it's possible.

Well, like I've said. The games animations are at 30 FPS, so there would be no changes there. I suppose the animations of the game could be changed to be 60 FPS or higher instead, but that'll take a lot of work remaking some animations, and wont even be worth it as 30 FPS is part of the style with DST animations. Raising the FPS would be ruining the artists visions. I suppose the camera could benefit from a higher framerates?

Is there another reason you need to unlock your FPS besides looks? I know there can be some tears at times when the refresh rate of a monitor and the FPS produced is different and I have to wonder if that's what's happening to you.

There's basically nothing that would change by uncapping the game's framerate besides potential bugs that pop up because of it.

The most notable change might be a somewhat smoother camera, although I don't particularly see why that would be needed much at all.

Game's refresh/tick rate are capped independantly of the framerate anyway, so it also wouldn't affect gameplay.

As for the question of why games still do this in 2022, there's a bunch of reasons:

  • Most common monitors run at 60hz, so higher framerates are often not needed.
  • Not every game can be as optimized as any other game that may have an uncapped framerate to even allow for a noticeable difference to begin with.
  • The performance of a lot of games depends on more than just the hardware you use or a variable you set; lighting, poly count, other miscellanious pieces of code, hell even transparancies of textures can heavily impact how software runs and usually its a balance act to reach a certain framerate, resolution, you name it that is reasonable within the constraints of everything mentioned up to this point.

This isn't to say a higher framerate can't be benefitial, it absolutely can be depending on the game or genre, however dst is not really an example of a game that requires something like fast reaction times like you'd see in something such as a racing game.

As Hornete said, higher framerates doesn't equal "better" after a certain point, the argument of "improve your technology" doesn't really work that way. Other than this I don't actually know to much about the topic, but wanna say a quick thanks to all the commenters, I myself have learned some new bits from you right now.

Yeah maybe if that point is like 2000 FPS, but every change up to 200 is extremely noticable. If you can't notice it you're probably on a monitor with a low refresh rate that can't even display it.

In this game's case since the animations themselves are made at specifically 30 that wouldn't benefit. But the mouse movements, camera movements, and maybe the way things move in the world would.

When I set fullscreen to enabled it allows me to set my refresh rate to 144.

It lets me, too, but I think it's just lying since Steam's FPS counter still says 60.

I'm a person who gasps happily if Minecraft runs on 15 fps and DST shows me a connection that isn't red. True skill is winning bossfights by predicting and reacting to movements that you can't even see because of lag:D

(Also I bought a new PC because my eyes can't take nomore)

Stop whining guys.Refresh rate is not working. I select 144 but goes to 60 after applying. Nice done DST DEV. Good game , bad graphic features

And will not work, that most people tried tell to you.

Animations in that game are like albums of 30 photos per second. Any tries to make "more" photos, will only duplicate them - you will not get anything between 18th and 19th photo, nor 24th and 25th. 144fps will not even duplicate them equaly, which might lead that some "photos" will appear for 3, and some for 4 frames.

I'm really trying picture it to you how it works. Please, don't ignore me, like others who answered you in more...  clever way.

You are ignoring the people who have said that it would affect the mouse and camera. If the game animations really are the only thing that matters why does the game run at 60fps instead of 30?

you can make the fps to 144hz but i think all it does is allow the cursor to be 144hz everything else is still the same. i also noticed if you set the fps to anything higher than 60 the game will become choppier too like if you move around and see the camera panning it looks less smooth compared to when it's just on 60fps.

so the highest quality way to play the game is at 60fps even if you have 144hz monitor unfortunately since smoother gameplay is better than a smooth cursor imo
