I wanted to give in once JoeW's message came through..... I felt the fuel for the Wolfgang fire would run dry, but seeing that the spirit in these familiar faces aren't crushed I feel we should see this through.

If they do something like that especially after already nerfing her because of the RWBY's update, i'll be really mad. Just want to add that i am fine with what they did to her books and it kind of needed to happen with the changes to farming but it can still be seen as a nerf and she doesn't need to see any more.

I would actually prefer them not to touch Wickerbottom after the recent Wolfgang refresh and even if they do as they have said they will, she doesn't need to be really reworked maybe just some small tweaks because she already is a very good character that i spend over a thousand hours on and i feel that i am not bored of playing her.

Also one last one about Wolfgang, i don't see how many people just keep using the excuse that klei can't waste any more of their development time on the character, its not like they can't do some small tweaks and just change numbers and maybe one small change allowing him to use dumbbells while moving.

Wickerbottom holds the Undisputed title of being the only character that has actually been NERFED outside of their own Rework.

That being said: That Nerf was probably justified and I can really care less.

If they wanted to Nerf Wendy I wouldn’t care less either, so long as she sticks to the gameplay I enjoy about her.

Wolfgangs rework could use some tweaks, and while Joe said they’ve moved on for now- That doesn’t mean that one of those 3 upcoming QoL updates or 3 “setting the stage” updates won’t show the big guy some love.

Wicker got Nerfed with RWYS (understandable no complaints there..) But Wurt & Wormwood both got major Buffs during that same update.

I love the “Idea” of if Klei releases a new content update that can benefit or hinder a particular playable character- That they show that character some love during that update.

Webbers the most basic of those updates: Anything involving new spider types= Webber Content.

Same as how If Klei adds a new Biome with a new type of Merms Wurt would benefit from that.

Or Wendy needing to quail agonizing screams of eternal suffering from unhappy Shipwrecked spirits at Sea..

There is a Clear cute “Role” each character SHOULD play into.. 

And Anything requiring being strong or moving heavy items Wolfgang would be the clear cut Winner 

(don’t bring up trying to compare him to Wanda..)

Wanda’s gameplay should revolve solely around the concept of TIME.. having it.. losing it etc- Which is why I keep hoping they’ll let Catcoons actually someday Steal her watches because it wastes the one thing most important to playing Wanda- TIME..

Eventually someone’s going to sit down and look at the cast of characters in this game and ask themselves “how can we make X better interact with Y Content in the game?”

Maybe they’ve even been asking themselves that question all along..

But my point is that each character has an intended “Role” Klei wants them to fulfill & They’ll adjust them as they feel they should to more accurately portray that role.

Aside from the fact that I see less Wolfgangs on pubs than Wandas (free vs DLC character, mind you!), I thought about possible social experiment.

If popular public server(s) with stable connection had choice between old and new Wolfgang at the same time (via a single mod?) with the way to track amount of picks of both versions and time played per pick, it could shaft some light on the matter much earlier than simple waiting indefinitely. Unfortunally, I can't do that myself because of "??? ping issue" (whatever server I create drops to the bottom of the list, people don't see it and don't join), and there is also a factor of people not liking mods as a concept that could influence result (+ consoles are automatically left out from experiment this way). Also as others wrote even if rework was successful, drastic shift of playstyle in new Wolfgang compared to old one should be taken into account, which basically makes new Wolf new character mechanically for many from old playerbase.

But again, if on vanilla server with good connection for some time both versions were available with tracks of both number of picks and time spent playing, I would be interested to see results. I may miss something, but it would be cool to see others poining out weaknesses of this possible experiment.

I usally give klei the benefit of the doubt since they seem to have a tight schedule in terms of updates and what they are working on. But Wolf really got the short end of the stick, he was stuck in the middle of the Terraria crossover, which ate up more of their resources then expected, and the Year of the Catcoon.

They clearly could not do anything to Wolf in Jan since they had to pump out the Year of the Catcoon update, but since this years roadmap was so vague and filled with updates dedicated to qol i dont see why they cant dedicate some time to Wolf during one of those months, since qol updates are probably the least taxing on them resource wise.

a glass cannon that has her power of her pet needing to take care of her low health plus her pet health was very fun and original. She might needed some number balance (couldnt try her that much cuz they were to speedy to revert her)

i hope one day we will get something similar. They tried with wanda and is fun but isnt the same

Problem with that would be it would be very limited and biased.

First of all people are more likely to join just to play old Wolfgang because they can, if they want to play new Wolfgang they would join any other server.

Second of all, 10 people at most can join at a time (though you could just have more public servers) and it's also assuming people play Wolfgang, there's a chance that they don't. Maybe I am wrong though.

I'm pretty sure a decent chunk of Wolfgang mains adopted Wanda on release since she outclasses Wolfgang in almost every way - more reliable top tier damage, more efficient materials use, able to use night armor, instant teleports across shards - sure she requires set up, but that basically means Wolfgang wins until you get your 2nd tusk...

I think Glermz is a great example here - He's always used Wolfgang for fighting bosses because Wolfgang is a good fit for the task, he's fun and makes things go faster.  When Wanda came out he moved to her to get all of that and more.  She isn't quite as fast as Wolfgang, but once you get t2 magic there is no reason to look back...  When the refresh was released Glermz basically said "yeah sure nope, never gonna play Wolfgang again." (although now that Wolfgang is slowed, I wonder if she isn't faster than him)

And I agree - who wants to watch a streamer stand still for a minute before doing something?  Or play the worlds slowest rhythm game (srsly this is so slow it bores me every time, I almost want to mess up just so something happens...)

that doesnt mean that people who now dont enjoy wolf will pay money for wanda or anything from dst since they might be angry with klei. They might not want to support a companie that make changes to the game that they dont enjoy, just added a reason to weave over buying her

I already said the issues with your improvements tho is that it makes dumbells irrelevant while my solution just makes it less boring yknow, your solution is what i'd prefer anyways tbh but this is the more likely. I guess let low tier dumbells just be that, low tier dumbells, they exist for early game mightyness. unsure what else they could do.

Im kinda hoping that at the end of the schedule of this year (and part of 2023), they could dedicate an update to make changes to the characters that could use a little bit more adjustments to make the more enjoyable (like Winona, Wolfgang, I think some people wanted Willow to be more focused on fire, etc.), I don't know maybe Im being too optimistic.

Yes, most likely - and that's exactly my case. I forgot what precise update made my mind up, but for some months now am not buying anything DST-related and most likely won't ever do. I don't fancy the game's direction, how abrupt "Return of Them" arc ended (like being abandoned with a hastily tepid closing for whatever reason) via a most anticlimactic "They/Alter were here all along" conclusion, CC's lackluster loot table (most "honorable" CK mention as well - what a missed opportunity!), absence of Moon craftings (relative to Ruins/Ancient tab builds), how artificial all the Moon Storms concept is in relation to a functional, purposeful natural/in-world phenomenon, how all the Moon arc elements seem forced with only game-mechanics in mind (similar to Shooter Games corridor problem: for old-school FPSs, corridors don't seem functional in game world context at all, their only use is to hide enemies for the "hero" to gun-down en mass & gratuitous jump-scares), the "???" server-ping estimation error introduced last year and much-much more. Not to forget this Wolf re-work and subsequent "Snarklord" debacle Guille underlined (if true and not 2-sides about it), painting a very unprofessional undertone. These coupled with every update for past year introducing game-breaking errors give credence to the idea KLei always had management and testing issues, not able to respect deadlines (past constant delays bearing witness to this), but now, under Tencent ownership, is glaringly clear: being forced (upper corporate administration) to respect deadlines comes with programming quality sacrifices (some art ones too - lack of details, shading, sprite errors to name a few). Is ok, for me Spools are sufficient; I had a consistent pack accumulated over time, enough to weave-in all Terraria skins. As for coming new skins I can now just slowly work up for what I may desire by playing game sessions, converting marketable variants into spools and whatnot. I admire KLei still trying to maintain DST's updates free, but it looks like such desire comes at a price: the overall quality of the product. A lot to write, yet is not worth it in my view. Even more now knowing some devs will probably deride on "their" Discord mine and others assessments in very unflattering words. C'est la vie and all good things come to an end.
