you may need to run the ruins to get purple gems

or just mine stalagmites for blue and red gems if the player isnt experience enough to go to the ruins until the hounds waves fill the chests with gems

"drain"

i crafted like 4 gembells in 84 days and i play mostly in mighty or at +70, nothing compared to the "grind fest" that was before. I might wasted more if they were a worthy weapon

Another factor you would have to keep in mind is the time investment of maintaining your might, if you go back to the gym every time you'd still have to backtrack all the way to the gym wherever it might be in order to upkeep the benefit

Wolfgang carrying a piggyback is actually still a bad thing. But in a different way.

It can still be seen as something that weighs you down because of the need to be mighty to remove the speed decrease which, at worst will be a steady drain on rocks, gold, and/or purple gems, and at best require you to frequently visit a gym structure.

Isn’t this the point? You are rewarded for investing in the dumbbells and gyms and becoming mighty, and punished when you dont manage your strength meter.

I just feel that dumbbells are too expensive. 2 cut stones for a single golden dumbell? Gotta get that sweet Stonefruit farm if you want to get mighty outside of base.

Honestly, I just feel that the golden dumbell is not good enough. For maintaining mighty form, a golden dumbell is exactly as good as 2 regular dumbells. It's also more or less the same price to craft, which makes it not an upgrade at all.

I made a suggestion to address this in my first comment on this thread which you can find here:

When you factor in things like the time investment required to maintain your might, as well as the cost of rocks which are usually in high demand due to the fact that most characters need them, and compounding the fact that things like wigfrid helmets are typically in high demand when wigfrid is present, or the big Rock sink that is things like Winona catapults, using rocks could be pretty annoying for the team if you choose to go about using dumbbells consistently

It ultimately makes me question the utility of things like piggybacks and marble suits since their downsides are still there to some degree

The resource cost of maintaining mightiness with a gembell (or the gym) is the exact same in mighty form as it is in normal form. This would not be a meaningful change. Gembells are the only kind of dumbell  with an increased effect on going mighty, so you are going to want to use them anyways.

It would be a meaningful change.

Mighty only covers the top 25 points of Mighty, where Normal covers the next 50 points.  This would give you 75 points duration between gym visits.  Also while Gembell is just as effective at maintaining normal as mighty, its not the only, or first dumbbell you should be using.  You can pump a gold to refill normal.  With this change piggypack would be something you could adopt earlier on as Wolfgang.

no because you use the gembell outside of base. Before you leave base you charge the bar and go to the destination, if is a boss you might need to use the gembell for arround 1 to 3 seconds (depends of how far is the destination) and for ruins you just use the gembell every many minutes before you reach 74, you might waste an entire gembell or 2 depending of how big are the ruins but that isnt a problem when rocks fall from the sky and you are killing bishops so tecnically you only need twigs with you to keep wolfgang mighty. And before you come with "but you waste time waiting to fill the meter" it only takes few seconds, not even 6. The only scenario where the meter is annoying is when you let your hunger meter reach >49% which will make it drop faster

is waaaay more confortable than the old one, in that regard klei improved him A LOT. Is true that in early is too slow, i wish they make the golden dumbbells go faster via a minigame or just increasing the rate of recuperation and reducing the durability a little

but you are suppose to use the gembells unless they buff the golden ones. The only scenario where you want to use golden ones is on ruins rush before building a camp or for the minutes it takes to rush magic tier and get 1 red and 1 blue gem

I think precrafing second gym and a statue-craft thing to place at ruins is definetly a worthy investment. Ancient guardian is nearby, how kind of him to give permission on making lifting weights in his image.

Are you also taking into account the time you would need to go back to the gym in order to use it over the gembells?

Because using the gym as a primary way to gain might results in those who don't spend too much time at their base is just something they'd have to constantly backtrack to that structure for

ofc, i didnt mentioned the mid to late game where the meter can become a joke with some investment

Then thats a other thing you would have to maintain on top of might, not letting your might or hunger drop below a certain threshold, then stopping, or at worst backtracking for might ends up being incredibly tedious, and might end up making you use up more time to do than just dealing with the movement speed penalty of the piggyback in the first place

in my experience playing the beta i was able to hold the mighty form for many minutes after leaving the base, im only going to base to cook and drop loot so no, nobody needs to go back to base every day to use the gym. You fill the bar and leave if you were in base, outside of base you use the gembell which is so cheap, last for so long and fills the meter quickly (i believe it takes arround 5 seconds for 20 mighty points)

we can argue how flat is the character, how ridiculous is are the perks recieved in exchange of speed and other stuff but not how effective and confortable is keep the mighty form vs the old wolfgang, that is clearly a rwys scenario

No, I mean a couple of smashed pig houses and 9 grass is small price to pay even on day 1.

Some people never smash houses but I find that to be silly. You don't need them if you are a solo player. If you play in a team then you are too strong to use ruins gear and can instead dupe houses with green gems to make a village. Free boards, skin and cut stone are a godsend early game.

In my experience playing the beta, I've found that using dumbbells over time ends up becoming tedious, maintaining might over the long spans of time I frequently am not at base, and rely on things like a gold or gembell ends up just using up a bunch of time and resources over time, especially when playing with other people who are also using things like rocks at a steady rate, imo a welcoming change to offset this, and decrease the frequency in which you would have to go back to the gym or stop to maintain might would be to get the gembell cost a different material, since things like marble are underutilized in most crafting recipes, and making the standard wolfgang form still be able to use the piggyback, to make trips back to base less frequent for those who don't spend much time at their base and would rather do things like clear areas or fight bosses

Definitely I find it tedious too.  idk how much a change of play style will help.  I typically roam for the first 14~ days or so, covering the top side map and caves / ruins before I drop any structures besides science / alchemy, and I try not to waste time gathering more resources than I actually need.  It might be a situation where I need to harvest a lot more stone to get a gym set up top side and bottom super early.  I'll need to play more to see how it changes, but harvesting all of the stone and wood for the various dumbbells, gyms, statue crafting station and statues seems like a lot...  I might be day 3-4 before I leave mosaic and actually start exploring :\  And the gym is basically all of that work AND you still need to eat more...  idk if I see this really turning out good.

Agree gold should be a bit better one thing that is beginning to worry me is the fact more and more characters are starting to use more limited resources which end up not so good in a multiplayer setting.

This is also a good point. Using nothing else, you can be permanently mighty for over 12.5 days using a single gembell. That's less than 6 a year. In the early days, you may need to run the ruins to get purple gems, but after this you can just live off of standard hound waves no problem.

Digging graves in Mosaic is at least 1 purple gem. Digging other graves in forests will get you another. I've played wanda rushes alot and now wolfgang and i always had 2 purple gems without struggling. Maybe 1/10 games i only get 1 instead of 2.

Have there been any changes to the Beta Wolfgang yet at all? And will the Rework come for console players this Thursday?

Not that I know of no, also it seems possible the rework may come for console on Thursday but who knows.
