Developer JarrettM Posted October 7, 2021 Developer Share Posted October 7, 2021 Hello everyone! Today we’re releasing the “Unexplained Traits” update for Oxygen Not Included: Spaced Out! This update reintroduces the world traits system to Spaced Out! This means that each planetoid in the cluster gets a few randomly selected traits to modify the world generation algorithm and mix up the play experience. There are over 20 different traits that may be selected: some old, some new. Some worlds will not be affected at all. We’ve also upgraded the frigid “Rime” cluster to be compatible with Spaced Out! You can now find Rime in the “Classic” destination category when you start a new game. We’ve also added four new Spaced Out! centric Duplicant traits. You might notice some Duplicants now have space specific traits, and some give off a bit of a glow... Additionally, we’ve added several new Spaced Out! specific Achievements. You can check them out in the ‘Colony Summary’ screen. Database entries for elements and critters have also been improved to include consumed and produced resource amounts. Finally, we’ve made a number of performance improving changes that should increase overall frame speed and consistency. We hope these changes improve things a bit, but also want to be clear that efforts in this area will continue. And as always, some bug fixes! Full patch notes below. A Big thank you to everyone who participated in the testing branch. Please continue to report bugs here. Patch Notes: Spoiler Features Spaced Out! Only. r4d6
You know, it would be nice to get a description of what the traits do alongside the traits' names.
tuxii
Base Game Only. The clock tooltip now displays the world type in instead of a random name. Saves created prior to the Breath of Fresh Air update will default to “Terra”. Can you please base this off the seed used to generate the map rather than a lazy default to Terra? My old map still identifies a FRST seed which you can use to correctly identify the asteroid as Rime.
89_spacemonkey
I have just bought this game and played a bit, how does such an update interfere with savegames? Should I start over to get its features?

Should I start over to get its features? The usual impact is that changes in the world-gen do not apply to older saves, everything else, like new buildings, becomes available. If old saves stop to work, there is usually a notice in the update description. Hence usually things are fine.

AzulCrescent
I'm rerolling for world traits, and am not encountering distress signal at all. Is this true for anyone else? I wonder if it's just INCREDIBLY rare or was it not included?

AzulCrescent
Ah ok. Thanks for a clarification. I did wonder why frozen friend wasn't in the patch notes. That explains things! ^^
DontPanicGamer
I didn't see "Distress Signal" as a world trait. I did however see one called "Frozen Friend". Is this the correct name for it? I just saw your updated post. Thanks! Edited October 7, 2021 by DontPanicGamer
cpy
Heh nice, rolling back to agricultural upgrade because reasons like drip cooling, abyssalite tiles, vents that produce 60kg/s water and other mess that is just pure chaos. Good times! PS: you think dupes are stupid? Play AU version and you'll see how stupid they were back then! Edited October 7, 2021 by cpy

zach123b
lush core is an odd trait, seems to pop up on the oily, frozen, and magma planetoids atleast. here it's on the swamp cluster so no magma with it here

ALCRD
No difference in performance on my end. What bothers me greatly when playing on version CS-469300 (the one just before the Merge that is available through Beta tab) even when i go overboard with amount of dupes and critters than my poor PC can handle my framerate drops only when looking at the busiest area and when zoomed out. When zoomed in or away from the busiest area frames are back to 60. On any version after the Merge when my frames drop they stay "dropped" for good regardless where i look. Even looking at not yet uncovered areas made no difference. I wonder why it's like that. Oh well back to CS-469300 (PS: Please Klei don't ever remove that version from the Beta tab ^^) Edited October 7, 2021 by ALCRD
