Infinite gas storage

Recommended Posts

I have been testing out infinite storage lately, and i think it makes the game more manageable and enjoyable, but i dont know if people think it's an exploit or not? Anyway here is my solution for it.

On the left side i have a powerless filter solution for all the common gasses, and i have a second input for gasses that are already filtered on the right side.

I fill a storage tank before the gasses go into the infinite storage and use automation to swich on/off the pumps, so the pumps only turn on when the tank is under 50% so this setup rarely uses power (doesnt matter much in lategame, but early on it helps).

If anyone has any ideas how to improve this setup let me know :)

I have been using bead pumps for the infinite gas storage.

I did avoid the various methods of infinite storage for a while but eventually came round.

It's a single player game after all, everyone gets to do what they want and I personally don't like mods.

Nope, this is merely how the game works. But if it makes you feel icky you don't have to use it.

You've already added a bypass for the pumps and a direct line input, so there's nothing more to add in my opinion. Anything extra is just a preference like a liquid lock for dupe access.

I don't think it's an exploit but I don't see the need for it. My play style treats storage as a buffer for something I use and I can't think of a need to have more than a 20-30 cycle backup of any material. But it's a single-player game so you do you and don't mind me if you disagree (-:

it is an exploit in a way since well ... I don't know any place that has or exists a room with "infinite" co2

but I use it on my base with an additional pressure mod for tubes and pipes

because although there is no such place in real life, but there are still pressurized tanks and pressurized tubes, then in a way it emulates these circumstances and of course we agree, it is convenient for you to be able to store something without worrying about space just with distribution.

On the exploit question - you can't cheat in a single-player game. If it's fun, go for it!

hell yeah, nobody loses

Thank you all for the feedback, i know it's not necessary to save up everything, but this game turns me into a hoarder for some reason :p when i started playing i saved everything in gas reservoirs, by the time i got to cycle 60-70 my entire map was full :p

I have a bigger version too if you need 2 outputs. I always make sure they fit in a 4 tile high room, and leave the top tile empty so you can stack them on top of eachother :)

And you can combine it with a power spine too if you want :) then you never have to worry about power wires overloading where you cant reach.

The system cant place gas and liquid in the same tile. So its working as intended, because the vents dont get flooded that way. They could change that, so the vents get flooded even with a tiny bit of liquid. They chose not to change it. Everythings fine.

To be fair, it is not "infinite" here either. It is capped at around 1.7E38 g/tile (assuming Klei uses g as base unit, not kg) and the pressure will stop increasing long before that, as newly added gas will not change the pressure value due to limited resolution of IEEE754 "single".

There is a value "inf" in IEEE754, but you should not be able to reach it here.

Even then, it wouldn't stop door compressors working, so the only difference it'd make is to slow things down.

that's why I like some people on this forum kkkkkkkkkkkk, that's exactly why I enter here every day

there is something that constantly bugs me, I had not assumed this hypothesis, I even find it strange and exaggerated the use of kgs at certain times, there is a ton of a lot of things

stopping to think like that, it makes sense xD

For my own play i consider it an exploit and never design around it but i`m not judging people using it. There are many different styles of playing this game. But i won`t use this exploit myself for a few reasons:

1. It trivializes an important part of the game. I feel like ONI is about dealing with waste/resources produced by different processes and buildings. If i can cram all that stuff into a 4x4 square it removes the challenge and makes the game boring for me. That said i understand when people want to just stop caring about that annoying gas or liquid and focus on a grander design.

2. It doesn`t progress. It`s a build and forget sort of thing. It doesn`t require much tech either. You don`t get to use stuff like the high pressure vent (does anyone even use it atm?) or other high tech stuff. There is no incentive to make a large scale build to store all the resources. Noone considers doing things like liquifing the gasses to save space.

Anyway once we accept the mechanic it doesn`t hurt to make some nice compact designs around it.

I see your point, but making something you can build and forget about is always my goal with everything i build, so i can move on to the next thing. I have a hard time focusing on more than one thing at a time :P

And i have already played trough maps without using any kind of infinite storage, so i feel like im done with that, so now i just want to skip that part and get straight to the bigger builds and finding new and more efficient ways of doing things without spending 1500+ cycles to get there :)

I use them to pressurize my base to more than 2kg... i usually do 3.5kg with high pressure vents and atmo sensors. Although one could do that with submerged vents and atmo sensors too.

I enjoy constant improvement. I build a crude build that works knowing i will have to improve it later once i get other pieces in place. I also enjoy trying to fix stuff when something inevitably goes wrong.

I understand that you like to skip to the late game. Good thing the game allows that.
