Will this game get Shipwrecked Together?

Recommended Posts

Oooh, this question gets asked every now and then on a regular like-clockwork schedule, it seems.  From Klei:  No.  They're pretty much said flat-out it won't happen.

BUUUUUTTT, you can look up "Island Adventures" on the Steam workshop, as well as the Shipwrecked Characters mod, if you want...

Basically there's no way to make the game itself have Shipwrecked in it for _everybody_, but you CAN, with the right mods, more or less have Don't Sink Together for _you_.  :)

(If you're on console I apologise, as none of the stuff I just said is useful to you.)

Thanks for mentioning the superior shipwrecked mod! Seriously, Island Adventures is the better shipwrecked mod, Highly recommend playing that mod over Tropical Experience any day.

We do have to remember that Don't Starve Together was also never supposed to happen, and all the topics asking for it were shut down saying it will never happen. So let's hope that one day we will get the single player expansions in DST, I'd love to see Hamlet Multiplayer happen, but at very least we can safely say it won't happen in the near future.

That's exactely the reason Klei doesn't want to say "it won't happen", but say "no plans for it" instead. So while it might happen at some points, it's unlikely, and even then it won't be any time soon.

Not that I wouldn't want to set sail with my friends tho ;)

And btw, I too prefer IA over the tropical mod, the first one is much better regarding both content and stability.

Hi, Island Adventues developer here. (Here's a link to the mod: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1467214795&searchtext=island+adventures)

Basically what our mod does is carry over the SW DLC over to Don't Starve Together, with little to no changes along the way, except for the ones that accommodate multiplayer. Our goal is to bring EVERYTHING over to DST. We're pretty far along in development, our list of what we're missing is pretty small:

Spoiler

What Island Adventures doesn't have yet:

-SW Only Worldgen
(Right now our only preset is "Merged", which generates the RoG continent as the spawn area, but surrounded by SW water and content once you sail off.
Here's an example of the Merged map: unknown-4.png)

-Characters
(Will be rebalanced and more fun for multiplayer, including a buffed Warly and slightly nerfed Woodlegs, but in ways you'll enjoy)

-Volcano
(That includes related mobs and items like the volcanic tab, dragoons and coffee)

-Seasonal Weather Effects
(We already have temperatures, I mean stuff like hail, strong winds, flooding, and volcano eruptions)

-Treasure Hunting
(We'll likely revisit the item pool for this)

-Quacken
(We're gonna be revamping him into a raid boss due to how much of a pushover he is in singleplayer)

Hope you'll give our mod a shot! We have a discord linked on the workshop page for any questions you may have.

Why do we keep getting these threads?:wilson_ecstatic:

Because it's not in DST's FAQ thread like it should be.

Oh who am I kidding, no one reads FAQs like they should. Even if they added in into their FAQ, it still likely won't stop the frequency of these posts. Although it actually has been quite a while since one of these threads popped up. I wonder if Island Adventures is the cause of that...

IMO the Tropical Experience is the most stable and complete SW experience to date.

They have the volcano working, the naval experience and content is pretty much complete. They even have extra features from Gorge and Hamlet.

Only think missing from both mods so far is the weather system. That's gonna the game changer for the best SW mod for Together.

I wouldn't mind if they ported a few things over from Shipwrecked, but I don't really want/need the whole game added to DST. I'd love to see the entire cast of characters from the single player game (tweaked for RoG relevancy, of course) in DST eventually though, but not if it meant cutting new, original content.

An inland sea biome would probably allow them to bring a few cool things over from Shipwrecked while still keeping the game RoG-centric.

First of all I want to give you my most sincere congratulations, Island Adventure gave me dozens of hours of fun and, apart from loading times monstrous, it was very stable and with very little lag, really good. I think Klei really should take your mod and make it an official world generation option when creating a server (do you want it classic, together or island adventure?) Choose, your world, your rules!)

But I would like to ask you one thing: on Island Adventure you could not ride the beefalo of water... on the water??

It would be the perfect counterpart of ground beef and it would be fun! Imagine kraken hunting by riding your beast with spear! Poetic.

I know that maybe it's something difficult to make technically... but dreaming does not cost anything, not?

:'D

And palm trees.  Seriously, how much better would the oasis look if it had the ACTUAL kind of trees oases classically have, in pictures?  (I'd chop down and dig up all the birch trees and plant coconuts in their place, if I got around to it...unless there was another Oasis Catcoon.  Then I'd leave the trees alone.)

Anyway, I think I have at least one screenshot of each to show, although I'm not sure how representative they are.  But, they're from my own personal playthrough, so hey.

Island Adventures (and these were from months ago, so bear in mind things were probably tweaked a bit since then):

sleepydogfish.png.120c8219cc6825ce458e1c1ffc7ec32a.png

As you can see--actual functioning boats and sailable ocean!  (Or paddleable, in this case.)  And coral.  Also, whose a sleepy boy?  You are!  Yes you are!

pirateseagull.png.9bb19feba05d810be7cb43f9924eafeb.png

I caught a seagull for my bird and put it in my pirate-style cage (from having Shipwrecked, appropriately).  Because WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU DO, while playing something called "Island Adventures"?

kittywantshermtv.png.1fedbd1fe7884c434b8f8094806bd69a.png

Hallowed Nights shenanigans:  The poor game didn't know how to put the trinkets in properly, with ocean in the way.  It tried.  It really tried.

CAT:  Mooommyyyy, I want the radio.... :(

But Wickerbottom could not get it, by walking or from her boat.  The radio was fated to stay there forever.

And....here's some from The Tropical Experience, aka The Volcano Biome as it was called at the time.  And...whoops, I just realised it's been updated a LOT since I took these pictures, such as now it has mod-specific worldgen settings and actual ocean.  (The continents + islands one is almost exactly what I always wanted:  Start off on the RoG mainland and sail off into the tropical islands _on the same world_!  I haven't actually tried it out yet, though.)  But, here they are anyway, for poops and giggles:

strollininthepoisonswamp.png.7f4dd9be612ed514d808daf326648323.png

I was strolling through the swamp one day / In the merry merry month of...whenever I took this...

Note, interestingly, the regular RoG sepia summer lighting, and not the OH GOD THE WORLD HAS A SUNBURN OW reddish lighting from the Shipwrecked volcano season.  This was _just_ before they put in the option to choose which palette you wanted, I think.  (Not sure why it looks like I'm about to drop my umbrella.  It's summer for freak's sake.)

doydoy.png.35b466353ac2b77e064d7bfb895e3458.png

Doydoys!  Wigfrid never lived long enough to get them together, though--this was a Survival server, which is why Wickerbottom is in the other picture.  However, she did at least get to inherit Wigfrid's base.  But like I said earlier, these pictures are from WAY back, so they're not accurately representing The Tropical Experience as it is today. No actual sailable oceans or beaches are in these pictures because they weren't in the mod..._yet_.

Aaaaand, a few from Megarandom/Multilands, because why not.  It also contains Shipwrecked stuff.  (Including coffee!)  This mod at normal settings, however, takes EVERYTHING AND THE KITCHEN SINK, tosses it into a blender, and says "Have at."  So be aware of that.  You might wander into a ruins biome on the surface or be confronted with Sudden Ewecus.

megarandombase.png.36fe37f2b4b8332a4632564dea5638b0.png

My base, in a version of this mod's world that _didn't_ try to kill me the second I walked in.  Much.  Notice the palm trees and little shelter thing!  :)

hisharkkitties.png.f8c13780960aaa878e4c7ff113b4b0f5.png

Oh, hi, sharkkitties...

genesisplanet.png.474f784a5b4fba2578f202c09f929143.png

Shipwrecked beach + RoG weather = The Genesis Planet from "Star Trek III".  Who knew?

whatisthiseven.png.adb95076449847752a2a6d605ede5cff.png

What.

And now, for comparison...

heropose.png.e6a2c991018bafe119a779cdd0fa123f.png

A screenshot from ACTUAL Shipwrecked.  Aside from the fact that the Wooden Thing is present and that's a singleplayer DS thing (mostly), it's hard to tell...

So, yeah, this post was way too long, but I like using visual aids.  Note also that I'm using other mods too in most of these pictures--your experience probably won't have pickle barrels, apples, or a kidney icon to track how dehydrated you are...unless you use exactly the same unholy cocktail of mods as I do.  : P

Actually, we've done just that in a recent update!

Also as for the colorcubes and everything: With our "Merged" preset that smushes RoG and SW together, we made it so if you're in RoG, those colorcubes and seasons apply. BUT if you sail off into the SW area, the SW colorcubes kick in to match, as well as appropriate temperature, wave frequency, AND music.

We wanna make our mod as polished and shiny as possible, after all. ;)

EXCUSE ME? Can you do THIS in Island Adventures:

Tropical Experience is a truly enlightening... well, experience.

I'm sure the over 9000 damage bosses and poor mod balancing are nice too.

I'll hapilly stick with Island Adventures.

It's a joke with how I'm walking on water. Island Adventures is really the better mod.

Oh, I remember doing that in The Volcano Biome.  At the time walking into even _milimeter_-deep water KILLED YOU INSTANTLY.  I died of "shenanigans" and then couldn't get any of my stuff with my next Survival character, because all of said stuff was in the Deadly Shallows.  I assumed the game would just...not allow you from walking where the programming says you can't, as most games since the Atari 2600 do, but...  (Aka the "invisible wall" thing.)

Nowadays, it looks like they've decided to solve it the Jesus Cat way:

jesuscat2.png.32df7b157173530383f047c00e2c67f9.png

Although to be fair, this is another case of things shoved together that weren't originally meant to be:  Regular singleplayer Shipwrecked + multiplayer version pets.  : P  ALL HAIL THE FLUFFY MESSIAH!

And while we're on water-related mods...Creeps in the Deeps, because I can!

jumpintowaterhole.png.434e3d674e7359910a82b44290fffab3.png

Wigfrid jumps into a random water-hole in the middle of winter.  Because THAT'S intelligent.

wigfridunderthewaves.png.13e322e13b704105f1f4a0699d32eb96.png

And a shot from underwater.  The cat followed her here too (you can see its butt sticking out)!  : P  This is a singleplayer mod, by the way, but I included it 'cos it's such a neat idea.  Also I like taking screenshots.  :)

@Chris1448 Ooh, that thing with the music and lighting changing automatically to fit _as you travel_ sounds AMAZING!  I loves me that kind of stuff.  I really should try that mod again, although I'll probably have to generate a new world by now.  My old one is from several updates back.

I'm curious, when the last time you played pure shipwrecked was, since TE's boating controls are a far cry from how it works in SW.

Tropical Experience already said in their discord that they're not planning on recreating the SW seasons. We already have that development in progress on Island Adventures.

Chriss. This is not an attack on you or your work. Just my opinion. I'm actually a collaborator for your mod for the Spanish translation. I believe in your work and progress.

For now, I still believe Tropical Adventures is the most complete sw together experience to date and I stand by it. However, I can't wait to see the evolution of Island Adventures and believe me I follow it very very closely cuz SW to me is everything.

Ty for the update and Ty for being passionate for the sw together experience.

I have a very vague memory of someone from Klei mentioning they wanted to add Shipwrecked into DST. Has anything been said about this? It'd be awesome to sail the seven seas as a monkey with some friends.

i think they should no point in letting good content that could be added to DST go to waste (not that its actually being wasted but you get what i mean)
