Construction Plans - New game mechanism about to get extended

Recommended Posts

Oh hello there ! I've just started a new DST game the last day and recently upgraded the Florid Postern to the new Celestial Portal with the construction plan

U know, this new thing called the Portal Paraphernalia : constuctionplan_portal.png.10a6f1d10a551164b3b422921adde2a6.png

You attach this on the portal and then got a new interaction with the structure. Place the requised items than show the lil' HUD and you'll get an upgrade of it !

What a neat concept ! But y'all know than the game is about to get some serious updates for 2019 (geezimsohypedrightnow)

So the legit question is... what are those ?!

We can't determinate what will be the contents of the updates but we have some clues of a potencial new game mechanism that'll be (probably) extanded !

And it concern THE construction plan(S)

Yes, we have reasons to believe than more of these plans will come to the game :

The first is than the recipes.lua file (it's where the in-game recipes are stored) have dedicated a specific area for them, have a look :

----CONSTRUCTION PLANS----
CONSTRUCTION_PLANS =
{
    ["multiplayer_portal_moonrock_constr"] = { Ingredient("purplemooneye", 1), Ingredient("moonrocknugget", 20) },
}

Seems like it's intended to have more soon...

Secondly, it was not the Portal Paraphernalia recipe than I've show you just above, it's the actual plan HUD recipe (when you put the items inside)

The construction plans have just a basic recipe which is lotated into the celestial tab and tech for the Portal Paraphernalia one. It may be possible than the other plans use another game tab OR tech but there's something about the celestial tech... You get the recipes of this tech when you're approaching the Celestial Orb and this is what prototyper is the orb :

TUNING.PROTOTYPER_TREES.MOONORB_LOW

Yep, "LOW", it's pretty obvious than we will have somehow a way to upgrade the orb to unlock the second level of the celestial tech

(also, the Celestial Orb prefab is "moonrockseed" so I may think than it be planted or something (maybe an interaction with the moon stone :wilson_lightbulb:)

Third point : The construction_plans.zip anim file store the pics' of the plans this way :plansanim.png.f89e3b9aeeb6cd5011824b74e5bc3df4.png

As you can see, the anim devide the sign and symbol of the plan in two part, it's a fine way to create new plans only using more symbols above the sign

SO ! It's a fact now ^^ More construction plans will come for the future game updates

and it's pretty exciting I can say, when you see how useful is the first one, it's sure than the nexts are about to bring major changes... (i hope)

The best about this stuff is than they actually upgrade existing structures of the game, so we can already imagine WHAT will be upgraded ?

Atrium Portal ? Moon Stone ? Ruins Altar ? The Pig... King ? o_o

But hey ! 2019 is for soon so better than waiting, let's talk about what kind of construction plans you would like to see ?

I don't know enough about coding to dispute it so...NEW CONSTRUCTION PLANS CONFIRMED. I'd love to see this add some larger structures to DST. Like a giant draw bridge that costs 10 Cut Stone, 10 Boards, and 10 Rope.

I would like to see a upgrade to Stagehand which would make it bigger and would make it in to a boss walking on it's shadow tentacles while it's shoots shadow at our survivors and at the end giving some kind of blueprint for something special or just like with the shadow set pieces dropping something that we would use later in game.

I was just thinking this morning that the Stagehand creature is incredibly interesting, but horribly under used.

I like your idea of upgrading it into a boss fight with special loot. Maybe have the original stagehand respawn in the circle of roses in 20 days after being defeated.

I felt the same I love how it looks and works but it was added and nothing else came out of it.

I had the idea of having the boss have something to do with light since it's attracted to it so during the day it has more defense since light gives it's power ad during night he will try to get as close to any light as possible so moggles would work great on it but you would still need some kind of armor just like with the Bee Queen fight were we would use bee keeper hats against it.

I always interpreted its behavior has disliking the light since it hides during the day and puts out any flames at night. Does it follow the player if they have a lantern or headlamp on like it does a torch?

I guess it likes light since at dusk it uses it's feet (I think those are feet) to search for some light and when you are close to it with any light it will follow you

Stagehand definitely likes light and will follow it when it's dark.  That's why it always follows me home when I'm playing as Willow and out exploring with my infinite lighter (_original_ Willow, thankyouverymuch), then stayed in my camp for the longest time, and whenever I lit a different firepit than the usual one it'd scuttle over to whichever one was lit.  If I decided to do some base-upkeeing at night by holding (or wearing) a portable light source, it'd follow me around and end up at whatever random spot I was when the sun rose!  : P

Weirdly enough this trait CAN have useful applications...in certain circumstances.  One time, I was out exploring the swamp, and it got dark, and it was a BIG swamp and I knew I was near the edge, but couldn't stop and look at the map to make sure I was on the right trajectory (because TENTACLES EVERYWHERE).  My base was also right near the edge of the swamp, and the Stagehand had been in my camp last I knew.

Well, as I'm floundering for the swamp border in the dark, along comes ol' Stagey skittering RIGHT after my torch (apparently it has a farther "sight" radius than I knew), and bang!  All I had to do was backtrack the way it came and I'd be safely in camp!  And I was.

TL;DR Don't be hatin' the table thing just because it's creepy.  Sometimes it can save your life.  :)

...Notorious

Please for the love of god make it possible to make construction plans for regular buildings. Nothing is more mentally exhausting than when somebody builds something that doesn't match up to the perfect ice flingomatic sized base you had imagined in your mind.

I can't count how many times i've had some well intentioned soul place a crockpot in a weird place and completely ruin my perfectly ice flingomatic sized, symmetrical, and color coordinated base design.

Please, I beg of you Klei.

What @Sinister_Fang wrote. The devs said it on one of the streams (can't recall which one). If memory serves the developers explained that they want to add something so that new players / players that usually don't get far in the game (and usually miss out on much of the normal content by not crafting it themselves) get a sense of contributing to the progress and teamwork when playing with others.

The Pig... King ? o_o

Now I have the weird urge to hang a constructions sign onto the Pig King, and throw moonrocks at him....

Who knows what will happen? :angel:

(Either I'm just weird, or saying what everyone is thinking.)

maybe they will add house mechanichs ? but of course i want to see trading system in DST

I'd love to see some kind of house mechanic in DST, one kinda like the houses in hamlet, but ofc with it's own unique charm. (And not just blatantly ripped from hamlet)

It'd be cool if building a square of fully built walls that were connected with a gate opened up the ability to build a roof via construction plans. Something like 3 boards per tile within the walls.

I feel like one of the construction plans will have one for the ancient gateway

yes me too maybe its only for world gen stuffs like pig king when you upgrade pig king become civilization :D

He has the best lore tho!

He has a nox and he has a higher up. The boss might be Charlie but it might not be. So there's a lot of things the innkeeper says that have some up in the air things that could be explored later. since there's a Nox helm in the Forge, the Inn Keeper might've been to the forge to get a nox?
