I can see it being useful for sticking in a magma chamber to clear away igneous rock build up, or to clear away regolith. Other than that it doesn't seems useful. RonEmpire Posted October 4, 2018 Share Posted October 4, 2018 the question really is - how useful is it for digging out regolith and the radius so we can figure out how it reaches enough to remove the regolith from solar panels glass floor. what is the overheat info. and how much damage can it withstand. somehow i'm guessing it needs to be under a bunker door tile rather than just be on top of the surface unprotected. will it be useful enough to replace the door crushing exploits. and does it work under water. (reason is to dig out ice that forms when you have gulp fishes in cold polluted water) Hopefully somebody remembers to ask these questions during the Stream today! It can however be rotated and put on the underside of an airlock door so there are still possibilities for a workaround with that problem. The rand, I'm not sure but in the vertical direction, it reaches up to 9 tiles and on the lateral dimension is I think double that. So your blast doors, open, drop regolith down to where your mining gun was supposed to dig it out, but it gets entomed and does nothing. Seems that does not provide a solution of the regolith issue. It can dig up another entombed drill that can finish up cleaning the regolith the shielded drill missed. The biggest problem is cooling, otherwise it can be easily fitted for regolith mining either above your bunker, but with personal coverage or between, on solars level but with tiles (not door) above. P.S. I'll give you 3 reasons; 1) It's pretty late game, requiring a conveyer engineer to build. 2) it requires power 3) 99% of your dig operations are one time actions. You dig things out and you don't have to worry about it afterwards. Why would you do the trouble of installing power and the auto miner while a dupe miner will have done the job done long before you got your auto miner to work. Like others said, its sole intent is to get rid of regolith tiles, because that 1% dig operation you do want to automate as it constantly returns. There is the other two sensible use cases mentioned as well. To dig out ice block formed in a gulp fish tank but that's going to be quite rare.
