that's why there is no point in BBQ and pepper bread. Frost buns for days!

You can cook one Pepper Bread in the time it takes to cook three Frost Buns, so they're roughly thrice as efficient in addition to being a higher quality meal for your dupes.

Yes,  the soul food status is a 15% stress reduction and a -2 athletics.

It's nice for those dupes who spend time in poor decor areas or thatgo through water locks often without an exosuit.  Plus I've got so much meat from the pacu aquarium that I've got to do something with it...

Why bother with frost buns when berry sludge is right there?  Bonus points for being a food that never goes bad.

Don't need water.  You typically wild farm Sleet Wheat, while you need dedicated light farms for the berries.

That's what the Printing Pod is for.  There's designs out there that gets you about 18-19 berries with the pod's light, especially once you get glass tiles.  Water's usually not an issue either once you find an appropriate geyser (clean or polluted)

Berries aren't typically cost efficient in the early/mid game as you don't have your water sources up and running yet, and you want to secure your early water for things like lavatories and Electrolizers.  By the time you can reach late game, I typically have a base food of Mushrooms ready to go, and Frost Buns or Pepper Bread fills in for the advanced food.

.Both Frost Buns and Pepper Bread supply 400 kCal/grain, the only difference is do you have spare peppernuts (1).  Stuffed Berry, the tier 4 food item, also requires peppernuts (1) but instead of using my wild wheat, requires a farming solution for clean water.

If the berries weren't so costly in the early/mid game I might care about them, but as they stand right now I feel we have a glut of late game options, so I typically prefer other methods which I can start sustaining in the midgame as I discover available crops (sleet wheat and pincha peppernut in useful places) for use, but my base is pretty much always frying mushrooms from beginning to end, with everything else being a boon when available.

Why have I never thought to use the Printing Pod to grow plants before?!
