fimmatek
Short prologue: I was thinking for a long time what is the fastest, safest, easiest and cheapest way to kill Toadstool alone. I knew the flingo/dwarf star method, but it takes a lot of time and weapons to do that. You can do that with a hambat as well, but I always messed up when dropping it and it spoiled. The other option would be the dark sword, but it takes a ton of them and I'm lazy to craft tens of swords each time. (Especially since I main Wendy...) The fight itself is also quite long. So I wanted a lazier way. And after many experiments, I found a way to farm Toadstool with minimal efforts. I used 6 Houndius Shootius for dmg and blocking Toadsool, and broken walls to prevent Sporecaps from spawning (I got the latter idea from a video on steam where the player soloed Toad with swords; but the Houndii was my original idea), see pictures: Spoiler The Shootii are placed in a hexagon around the hole/Toadstool, this block it and it won't be able to attack you (unless you go too close ofc. Or too far, then it despawns) The ground around this circle is covered with walls. I didn't make experiments on how many walls are actually needed, but this amount looks to function while I don't think it's safe to make it much smaller. The radius is approximately 18 walls. During the 4 fights here Toadstool managed to spawn only one Sporecap. And voilá! Edit: As requested, I made a video. It's at a different location, but the same setup. I just didn't destroy all the walls, it would have taken quite a long time and we can see it worked fine. The announcement tells the amount of walls at the two holes (haven't done the 3rd yet), so here I needed around 1300 of them. And this time I measured the time needed for the preparations, it took 14 days to bring all the materials (3 turns from base), craft and place all the walls and destroy some of them to create a pathway to the hole. [End of edit] It takes a bit more than one in-game day to kill Toadsool and a a bit more than 2 to kill the misery one. All you need is an axe and maybe some food and you can dance during the whole fight. So practically no maintenance costs, which is pretty good in long term for a boss with 50-100k health. ... Yeah, setting it up is a bit long... I used more than 1500 hay walls for the area. But it's just a one-time cost (or, well, 3-times). And if you ask me why did I waste a ton of time to build this even tho I don't want to waste time, then honestly, I'm not sure... maybe because nobody else has done this before (at least I don't know about anything similar) and in the long run it's still worth it. Note that it's not a shroom skin farm but a Toadstool farm. I know the method how to multiply the skins, but my goal was to make the boss fight easy and cheap for the (very) late game. Is this method a cheese? I guess. Bug? I don't think so. It just uses that Toad cannot crush nor attacks the Houndius Shootius in its way. I think it's in the same categorie as killing AG at the pillars/graves, baiting pigs or walling off lavaes. I know, I know, this is the most useful advanced farming method that a base could ever need... but still it's a thing so I thought I would share it. Who knows, maybe someone will actually make it as well?... So feel free to use this absolutely amazing technique if you got the nerves to set it up. MondayNight
While ingenious, this method would be truly efficient only for very-long solo running Endless servers with a lot of resources and frequent Ruins resets. All in all thanks for sharing, was a good highlight. csc_unit
I'm definitely going to do something like that. But with one shootius... and my bare fists! (or not) Question, I tought that when you killed Toadstool, the respawn was to be in another location?? Tip: Place ocuvigils to see where he spawns on map. Yep, as IvoCZE said it can spawn in an other hole, but it's not necessary. I had luck and it spawned 3 times in a row at the same location... I don't complain, since I was lazy and I haven't done the other two areas yet... but if it keeps spawning there, I'll suspect a bug. 28 minutes ago, csc_unit said: Btw, It looks like your Wendy spent too much time lurking in the darkness of caves If you build this arena you must spend too much time in the caves... luckyly I enjoy them a lot, I'm planning to make a world where I'll base mainly just in the caves. It is easier with Wigfrid, who can correct the constant sanity drain by killing spiders, whose silk you then use for top hats, lots of top hats. The rain is a drag, though. Jason86JR
There is another weapon that you didn't mention which is very useful against toadstool, especially if it's wet: the morning star. Its damage varies from 43.35 to 72.25 in 6 mins and you can renew it like the weather pain too. I like your idea but it's kinda too costly to me and by the time we got all the stuffs to build it, we may don't need to kill toadstool anymore. I've also done this as a solo challenge where I only had caves on the server and I played Wes. It was quite hard at first, but then I made a bunny farm and I no longer had any food problems. I used blue mushrooms for health and green for sanity. jesuisralph
This looks great! Would you mind making a youtube video? I might try this method once I kill Fuel Weaver, unfortunately I play on PS4 and there's nothing but trolls/thieves/trophy hunters so I play by myself 99.9% of the time - on rare occasions I'm able to convince either my older brother or gf to join and help me out with toad but rarely, the one time I was able to get my brother to help me on misery toad, the PS4 version had glitches... Do you have a easy method to solo kill Fuel Weaver that doesn't require a lot of effort, I know there's the houndius shootius method but I already used my houndius shootius for something else and unfortunately if I "break" it, it just perish... You know that you have to kill him multiple times to get more Houndius Shootii? (Sorry if I misunderstood you... I'm not quite sure). It's possible tho to use only 2 or them, but then you must make sure to be on that side of the hole and cannot wander around freely. Also the dps will be much lower and it'll take three times longer. And if you do misery, then it would be almost an hour. Anyways, I hope you'll be able to kill it! But still, in the long run (and I plan in long-term) this method is easier, cheaper and as I saw faster than other solo methods. 2 hours ago, hhh2 said: could this be done with lureplants instead? Yes, mobs that attack walls (like werepigs) usually don't crush them and therefore endtables can block them perfectely. But toadstool and most of the bosses just walks over and destroys it. The good thing with Houndius Shootius is that these are non-destroyable (you cannot even hammer them), and, as we see, bosses don't crush them either. I haven’t used houndious in DST, only DS, but I know I’ve had Bearger kill them. They’re alive, not a structure, so you can use heals on them, but one can’t really defend itself from a whole wave of hounds. It may be the Toadstool doesn’t attack them, but I’m pretty sure the seasonal bosses do. csc_unit
Another thing about lureplant, would it be possible to plant lureplants kinda far from Toad so that the eyes plants replace the broken walls of your setup. e.i the treeshrooms can't grow there. What I meant is that bosses cannot destroy the houndii just by walking over them (unlike how bearger destroys every structure that gets in its way). If Toad would target them it could kill them easily, but it doesn't, it keeps targeting the player instead. 6 hours ago, csc_unit said: Another thing about lureplant, would it be possible to plant lureplants kinda far from Toad so that the eyes plants replace the broken walls of your setup. e.i the treeshrooms can't grow there. But we cannot argue that placing a few lureplants is easier than placing all those walls...
