PhailRaptor
Don't they need Mealwood for Glossy Egg chance though? Sure, they'll still eat the Balm Lilies, but you will shift back to Woolly Dreckos after a while. blash365
Are you sure that they are starving because they dont eat balm lily at all? In my observation there are still some pathfinding bugs with dreckos, where they will only try out one plant (if any) even when there are several eatable plants around. (i am assuming you are only farming glossy dreckos, so you can disregard the egg chance bonus from mealwood) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/90464-simple-drecko-stable/#findComment-1032713 Share on other sites

crypticorb
Glossy dreckos are listed as "comfortable" in 25-60oC range, and "livable" in 5-80oC. Do they actually get unhappy outside the comfort zone? This is relevant because mealwood and bristle blossoms have a maximum temperature threshold of 30oC, which only leaves a 5oC overlap. If the dreckos are happy regardless of the temperature, then keeping them at the comfort zone of the plants is most ideal. Morio
You also should add a way to cool the place around the mealwood since the drecko have a body temperature around 40° it'll heat up the place until the mealwood [10°-30°] will stop growing, faminishing your drecko in the long run. I did my set up like this, with the triple door vacuum when cooling is not needed. JonnyMonroe
I would used bristles as water is easier to supply than dirt. You don't need to feed them meal wood for glossy eggs once you already have glossy as bristles won't reduce the Base 66% glossy egg chance. Miravlix
1: Make a size 96 critter room, without farming. Add a door in the floor and set it to be open. Make a mealwood farm in the room through the door. 2: Find a good autogenerated wild dreko's area make a hole and put a door to block critters escaping, add a food container (set for drecko eggs) and a sheering station. 3: Profit or maybe just an alternative exploit to the wrangling one. The dual room design isn't too bad, it's easy to maintain hydrogen in the critter room and in my case CO2 in the farm and I didn't seem to do badly with scale regeneration. I went with spacesuits to solve the problem of the dupe not being able to groom or sheer, due to running out of breath. The only reason I originally used the "wild" room to store eggs is because it requires a ton of automation to create an egg cooking setup and it's equally complicated to create a room to kill dreckos. I have a very simple hatch killing room (it drowns them once each day if any has hatched from the egg container). With Dreckos it seems like I need a 3 room setup, top room is filled with water, a door and mesh tiles leads down to the egg room, once a day the door is opened flooding the egg room, then after the dreckos die a bottom door open to let the water out, then use a day pumping the water back to the top room. While dupes can go get the meat and add eggs from a side door. If I time it to run at night, it will never result in conflict with dupes using the room. Neotuck
@Miravlix the reason I don't like duel room ranching is 2 problems 1st unless you plan to make the greenhouse 96 tiles too you risk overcrowding if too many dreckos wander over there to eat 2nd any drecko in the greenhouse will not notice a rancher at the grooming station. This can result in some dreckos going a few cycles or more with the glum stat and that causes a -80% on metabolism which effects scale growth and phosphorite production Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/90464-simple-drecko-stable/#findComment-1035508 Share on other sites

You are correct with the phosphorite production though. I hope they keep it like this. Its not OP cause you dont get eggs as a result. If you just want to sheer than its no problem. But if you want eggs and sheering yes, dual rooms can end up being inefficient Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/90464-simple-drecko-stable/#findComment-1035524 Share on other sites

But if you want eggs and sheering yes, dual rooms can end up being inefficient Think you got topsyturvied. Dual room is good for eggs, bad for sheering. A single room can all contain the same gas to optimize scale growth and no drecko is out of range. You don't need to feed the dreckos to sheer them. That is why the "wild" room works, scale growth is purely based on the dreco being in hydrogen every time the game checks growth. Starving, tamed, , groomed doesn't matter for sheering. Egg production depends on the critter being "happy", but it doesn't need to be happy 100% of the time, most of my eggs get laid in the farm room, because to automate things I keep a egg container set to 1 kg, so I have one egg cooking and hatching and renew the population. (Or that was the idea, but dreckos has too long lives, but the dual room setup saves me from overcrowding and expecting issues.) But yes having a whole bunch of wild Dreckos in a room is good. you dont have to feed them only sheer them, Just gotta wait a while. like a wild pacu farm where you just wait for them to die from old age and collect their meat and the eggs replenish the farm. I think they misinterpereted you. Dreckos can eat only from the base of the plant. Most of the time this means they have to be standing on the Farm/Hydroponic Tile, but there are situations where they can reach the base of the plant from a wall, like in a corner. CherryHavoc
Question: Can I use the critter feeder to feed my dreckos meal lice? Maybe I was being blind but I built one this morning and dreckos didn't seem to be on the list for me to select ingredients. I did find meal live under the dropdown for another critter, but don't know whether they'll actually use it. CherryHavoc
Thanks for that. That would explain it, though as far as I know there's nothing in the game that says this (or at least nowhere that I've noticed).
