yeah thats right a 690 ton poop.

Wounder if they fix this on the next patch to?...

Thats enough to make your eyes water....

No wonder he's a little...loose...at the rear.

I might have a theory about why it happens.

I think it consumes 1g and thinks this is 1 meal. Whilst 100kg is needed to fill its stomach

I think the pooping is based on meals rather than quantity of the meal.

So lets say a hatch at full happiness is meant to eat 200kg and poop 100kg. If you fed it 100 x 2kg meals, it may poop 100 x 100kg coal since its stomach is now full and it ate 100 meals.

Chances are the less you feed it per feeding the more it will give you in return.

I'm not sure how well restricting food mass would work with Hatches.  First off, you can really only do it with a Storage Compactor, which is a micromanagement pain.  Second, the "chewing" animation that Hatches use takes quite a bit longer than the "inhale" animations of Pufts and Slicksters.

Thats true, but i dont think the time is the reason, just the amount of meals it eats, I will try a test tonight to see if that might be the reason.

If this is how it works then essentially you could essentially set the feeding station to only have a small amount delivered. The issue is you run the risk if you dont feed it enough per cycle that it will starve, especially if off screen

And if you feed a Shinebug 1g/s phosphorite for several cycles, it goes supernova and takes the entire asteroid with it.

The above may not be 100% true.

The funny part is, what the heck do they actually do??? shine further?

Honestly, Shinebugs don't serve a mechanical purpose.  It's a Lore purpose to explain how Bristle Berries, which require Light to grow, can exist underground with no other source.
