Yes, now I understand, though I am not sad that DST is available on Tencent, I love that, more money for Klei and more players. I am sad about the exclusivity of the Rose collections skins on Tencennt though.

This whole thing is less about Tencent, and more about platform exclusive skins. It seems to be something that the majority of the community doesn't like (or at least the majority of people using the forums here).

Well, I've seen comments on mods with people reporting that mods have been pulled out of the workshop and put on their platform. Without asking the creators. Like on Combined Status by @rezecib, he was apparently only contacted by some guy claiming to work for Tencent after comments began spreading.

I wasn't aware of that. I heard about them doing that with the Chinese translation mod but wasn't aware they were stealing other mods as well. That's not ok.

Well, I'm not judging, though I don't agree with such behaviour. And honestly, writing a tiny "If you want the mod removed, contact us" hardly helps.

Honestly I don't really care about my mods being put on Tencent's game platform. I'm not going to be putting my mods up on Tencent myself (I have enough separate places to upload them to already... DS Steam Workshop, DST Steam Workshop, Klei Forums, Github...). My main concern with my mods is that they're accessible to players and don't have bootleg copies that don't work properly or don't get updated (because that means someone who uses it will probably just stop using it and miss out on a mod they would've liked to have work properly). There are a lot of areas of my mods that are just not set up to handle Chinese properly, so if they're doing that when bringing them over to Tencent then I think that's great. I don't know Chinese or the requirements of getting that stuff working myself.

As for whether Tencent is a corporate machine worth struggling against... I'll leave that to the people who are affected by it and can actually assess that.

As far as we are aware, Tencent has asked for permission. If somebody uploaded your mod and you want to request that it be taken down, you can do so by contacting them or contacting us and we will check it out. 

It's the same on steam. We take down mods that people upload almost daily. I have taken down at least a dozen copies of Rezecib's mods on steam alone. =)

While my attitude is more like rezecib's, it's good to know Klei has the creators' backs on this.

Wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

Though Tencent hasn't got much a good reputation in Chinese players' community(doubt any of the local giants does), as long as Klei is keeping an eye out for the content and gaming mechanics changes, there is still a good chance that DST will not be turned into another boring money milking machine XD.

After all, it will be good if this helped more Chinese players find their ways to this game of quality and fun. Although I think DS and DST are popular and well-known enough among Chinese gaming communities.

BTW, for anyone feeling confused, long story short, Chinese players often joke about how every game will turn into a money slaving tool in Tencent's hands, and someone would say Tencent does earn itself that reputation.

Is this cross-platform? Like, can Tencent players come on Steam servers? There're quite a few people over there who speak English, and it'd be nice to get the new players. Lag would be a thing, but it is anyway.

I would like some of the chinese players to stick with Tencent thou.

Some chinese players I've meet before were rather rude and had condemned me for speaking in english in the game.

Yea, but we need proper server language tags for that. The same happens to Russian and Chinese speakers in English servers. Not really a regional thing.
...also, alternate-language servers usually do have an alternate-language title, so...

Just how? People are people, but honestly, how can one do that? Servers have designated "official" languages (at least I write down I support English, Polish and Spanish on mine - the description box is there for a reason, players can fit in better knowing where they are going). With nothing written, assuming it is the default language of the game OR lingua franca - in this case, English - is a natural thing. And not speaking this language just means you won't get as much support...

Language tag as Pyr0mrcow has suggested can help, I suppose.

Those players have some really weird logic. They come to my server. They ask me If I understand chinese. I say yes. They then call me a traitor for not speaking in chinese at the first place and demand that everyone in the server to communicate in chinese. Happens alot whenever I host my own server. Which is also part of the reason I would rather go play on some 250+ ping EU server.

Anyway, I should specify...English is already an automatic tag on servers. I feel like an option to change preferred language per server is meant to exist at some point and just hasn't been implemented.

Translations aren't very exact. Chinese is a huge language with a lot of possible usages.

Basically they're concerned about the possibility of the Steam version of DST not being purchasable in China at some point, due to Steam cutting into Tencent's sales.
...but, that would also have the effect of concentrating China's player base into one server set, if the two versions aren't cross-platform. Haven't gotten any word on that but I'm guessing they're not.
Damn though. That might actually be a good move.
