What are the benefits of Webber?

Recommended Posts

First off: Webber's special ability is to grow a silky smooth beard. Similar to Wilson's beard but with less warmth/insulation. After 9 days you can get 6 silk. This results in infinite amount of silk which is good for making numerous amounts of hats and other things. When starting you are given a spider nest. Since Webber is a monster he will not be attacked by spiders. This is protection from pigs, hounds, and other. Since he is a monster, he will be attacked by peaceful mobs like pigs. On another note, Webber can also eat monster meat with no downsides. It can also be eaten raw without negative effects. Again with the spiders, when you walk on their webs they aren't triggered unlike from other characters. To trigger them, you have to attack them or make another mob attack them or trigger them. Any other benefits of playing Webber?  (I just joined this site btw)

In either the singleplayer or multiplayer versions of Don't Starve, a good Webber player is able take all the nests around a map, move them, and make a base with them surrounding his home. He has the protection of numerous Spiders at his disposal, along with various Spider Queens if the player can play their cards right (Protecting the nests and using Silk to speed them up to Level 3). After the player has accumulated a good number of nests, the player can engage in Spider Wars frequently, which results in an ungodly amount of Silk, Glands, and Monster Meat. All the player has to do is hold the SPACE bar when it happens and you're pretty much set. Just watch out for Summer, though.

Webber is a pretty good character, yeah.

Yup.

I don't play Maxwell or Woody, but Webber has always been the most powerful character to me when I play. Followed by Wigfrid and WX. The fact that you can sustain your hunger so early in the game with monster meat is probably the biggest bonus.

As a side benefit if you didn't know you can set down animal traps and they'll catch spiders, this gives you meat glands and extra webs without aggroing the spiders. The tactic works well as all characters, but is slightly less effective as webber since he /cant/ aggro the spiders without directly hitting the nest, all that means is you wait till nightfall though. For Extra OP-ness go to a cave and pickup the components to make a Bunny Hutch, making a small bunny village in your group of spider nests means free daily carrots, the spiders will likely eat the meat however, and if you want more bunny tails you'll have to hang nearby so you can catch it before a spider eats it.

Okay, one last thing. Since you'll be swimming in Silk and Webber has 100 Sanity, make Top Hats non-stop. Don't bother repairing them, you'll just waste resources.

Thats quite useful, also if OP doesn't know, the spider war that KingDedede talks of can be triggered by giving a spider monster meat and ordering him to attack another spider, this causes the war (of course the more the spiders the bigger the war, therefore the bigger the loot gain)

I have a few questions. I started playing webber and want to start an army of spiders for protection. But since spiders don't react to you walking on their webbing land, you have to punch the nest to get them out? When I try to feed them meat to follow, webber punches them or attacks them instead of feeding the meat. I am guessing I cannot feed spiders that are aggro'd to me? What am I doing wrong?

Yes me and my Spider friend are new here. Mister gave us a computer/laptop or as Spider calls it, Flashy Machine. Yeah! But Mister isn't nice to us. He sends Hounds. But he gave us Flashy Machine to keep us entertained! We wouldn't stop complaining.

can you even amass an army of spiders? do i have to feed every single one of them with monster meat?

I think the general rule is, if you feed one spider it will gain you multiple followers (these additional followers are other spiders that originated from the same den as the spider that you fed).
So, if that is true, you really only need to feed one from each den (or something similar to this).

When a spider is charmed up to 3 other spiders within 15 units (~3.75 turfs) will also be charmed.
