spiderdian
Well, after some time playing, the game updated, raising the minimum specs. Now I'm totally unable to play it unless I buy a new PC, which is probably not gonna happen soon. So, I asked for a refund on steam justifying the 63 hours spent with the no longer ability to play the game. But it was rejected Is it fair that I spent R$27,99(Brazilian currency) for a game that I can no longer play? most of my friends that have the game already stacked over 500 hours into it. Not that its a bad value overall (0.44/hour) but in terms of games thats not as cheap/cost effective as most. Soto8969
Also, When you buy Don't starve together it gives you 2 copies of the game, so if you already gifted the other copy it would be hard to be refounded. Also, if i were you i should keep it on the library, like me: I have 4 games that are not supported by my laptop and i just keep them there so i when i get a new computer i can play them without having to pay again. Uhmm are you sure you cant play on your PC? If you dont mind me asking what PC you have that you cant run this? I have little cousines that are in love with this game and i install DST on their calculators and it is running just fine. Are you sure its not problem with your OS but with your PC? CarlZalph
Well, since Steam decided against providing to you a refund. Let's try and get this running again on your rig. What is the error the log saves when you try running the game? You can find the file location for that from the help ticket: Here. smallishbird
The devs already told spiderdian that his graphics card doesn't meet the minimal system requirements. Mmm, yeah. Spiderdian has a GPU that supports shader model 2, whereas DST needs 3. There's some software from TransGaming called SwiftShader that emulates the shader model 3 on the CPU, which should let this user play the game. I haven't tested this software personally but it might be a venue worth looking into. JohaneBrote
Well if you have a PS maybe it wouldn't be so bad if you waited for the PS version to come out. I'm pretty sure you won't have to buy it separately, although don't quote me on that one. Currently you get the Linux version alongside the Windows version free of charge, although admittedly that's not quite the same. But yeah, it might not make much sense for them to do that. The same reason as they couldn't add the multiplayer as a DLC or update. Then engine mechanics are too different, mainly the menus Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/66534-is-there-a-way-to-get-a-refund/#findComment-755084 Share on other sites

New games can't continue to build on old frameworks, libraries, .... I'm not sure where this is coming from. Why can't new games support old hardware? It's a lot of work on the developer's part to create GPU-related shaders to visually be very similar for each revision of GPU hardware support to be sure. However, it is fairly straightforward to have shaders disabled on hardware that doesn't support them. This would allow the base game to still be played, even if some of the effects are no longer present. 1 hour ago, werlpolf said: This is a beta game and in development. Mday
Dude, just get yourself a second hand graphic card and stuck that into your rig. NVIDIA introduced Shader Model 3.0 since GeForce 6 and that is like 10 years ago. So anything above 6600GT can work. Then buy a graphic card, that has quite same performance (points) and which is cheaper. CarlZalph
I have the shaders compiling as the format the game wants. I'll be reading up on the limits of shader model 2 and recreate the shaders in-game to meet the restrictions thereof.
