Your favorite Don't Starve Character and why ?

Recommended Posts

"You can't make a coffee table out of gold. Well, maybe you can. But you shouldn't." - Woodie, the lumberjack.

Woodie looks amazing. I hate the slow speed of gathering making Lucy my best friend. I love the beaverform and the music.

But lets be real here. Woodie's got the best qoutes. When you run into darkness then other characters say: "I can't see" but Woodie's all like "WHO TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS!?!?!" rly Woodie? are you that stupid?

CONS:

•Nobody likes you if you play him. "UGGGH YOR WASTIG ALLL THE FOODDDDD." Says the Wilson who just died to a level one spider nest.

Strange, when I play Wes on public servers, no one usually complains....then again, I try to look nice with my clothes.

WX-78 because I can potentially become overcharged for about 80 days if there is a Wickerbottom willing to use an entire "The end is nigh" book on me.

....I now will live and breathe for WX78 when its winter...time to overcharge.

I usually pick Wickerbottom when playing DST because I don't get to play for very long, so knowing all the science machine recipes from the start saves me a lot of valuable time. I've never even made one of her books before; I just don't have enough time to really make good use of them.

I also have a strange fondness for Wendy, even though I've never actually played her. I should try her out some time.

Get ready for the flame wars.

Why does everyone just spam Wigfrid and Webber on every server? It's annoying to see those two chosen over everyone else even though there are characters that are still good (and better). Every time a Wigfrid joins my server and she takes  the jerky only to randomly cram it in a crock pot.

This literally happened to me once (names aren't accurate though)

Me: what are you making

*checks crock pot to see the Wigfrid randomly put 2 jerky in the crock pot after stealing it)

Wigfrid: its called the i dont know :D

*wigfrid gets kicked*

Wickerbottom for DST, knowledge is power!

I get a kick out of Maxwell in DS- just the feelings of having rescued him and now I am him....

Wilani (sp?) for Shipwrecked. I like having a surfboard.

Asparagus for the forums. Or possibly Kevin. I would definitely play those two.

Willow

1: Not great (At least in DST, idk about solo), but not a joke (Wes).

2: My first character I played for any length of time.

3: A bit dark and creepy (Like Wendy except with fire).

4: Annie from League of Legends rip off (Or at the very least heavily inspired).

What character do you like the most and why ? (Preferably the original cast of characters presented to us rather than your original character)

I'll start ,

Mine is my main man Wilson

I love how he has no setbacks and no advantages , he's just in the middle. (and that beard is on fleek)

*edit

Okay okay i just realized that the beard IS an advantage but im sure you know what i meant.

The man of science himself! Wilson rules.

Oh my gosh, how could I even choose?!?!? I can't. Instead you get a general list with no order to it. I'm weak.

Wilson-"That offends me as a scientist." He's cute and has a fun personality. Having no major downsides is also nice at times.

Wendy- "A chipper little fellow. I wonder if he knows life is pointless." Soo dark and cute. Abigail is an awesome tank to. Just no swamp exploring.

Webber- "We could be good at football, much better than I was!" Cute and dark themed. Opposite day. Pigs are evil, spiders are friends.

Wolfgang- "Is staff for make fire. Careful, Wolfgang." Use to be my least favorite, but dressing him up made me explore him more. A good, balanced fighter. He is also the nicest of the group. I also don't think he is quite as dumb as people think as it seems english may not be his first language.

Wickerbottom-  "Dead plants tied together to help me help alive plants." The old lady is one of the most powerful and harder to use characters, I love it.

Wes- He's cute and I love rooting for the weakling/underdog. That side arm lean and invisible bike are sweet.

And the point is? The characters are little with big heads with wild hairstyles. They are cute. I guess I could of said Wilson looks cool. And Wendy looks neat. And Webber looks awesome. But really, cute was a simple and easy term to use across the board for the ones who have nice designs.

I started playing Woodie and played him almost exclusively until just recently where I picked up Wolfgang.  Both characters are very enjoyable in that they have some mechanic that you need to pay attention to or you could suffer a terrible consequence, even if it doesn't really seem like it's that big of a deal.

Comparing the two, I'm pretty sure I like Woodie more overall.  First because of theming, and second because you can get thrown into just about any environment and unless it is completely stripped bare, you can find a way to make it work.  It's not as applicable anymore now that bird flint exists, but I cannot count the number of times that transforming to mine a boulder or a sinkhole has saved me from a flint-less nightmare.  Also as I played more and more, it became increasingly valuable to have minions who will follow me to the ends of the earth and beyond--especially when exploring the ruins.

Unfortunately, it seems that Wolfgang is better for just about all other purposes.  Almost all of the major accomplishments in the game are very combat-centric, and a fully mighty Wolfgang is just strong enough to cause most inconvenient threats to be surprisingly manageable as long as you can dance a little--which you can, because a mighty Wolfgang is faster.  Your attack windows are larger, often allowing additional swings where other characters could not due to travel time, and each of these hits comes backed with meteoric force.  The whole game changes when I play this guy, and as long as I'm willing to be a little greedy with my early food gathering, I am almost never in a position of consequence, because if push comes to shove, I can just subsist off of monster meat, since all nightmare creatures die in just a couple swings.

If I want to exist underground, I am bombarded with nearly limitless amounts of amazing uncooked food options whose only consequence is sanity loss, and if I want to live above ground I can just dip underground for twenty seconds to get the pelts to make a hunger belt and begin the reign of terror for as long as I feel like being a mountain of a man in a small, puny world.

---------

Not-so-subtle suggestion that Wolfgang may be a few too many chins ahead of all other characters in total benefits aside, I do think the important part of a character for me in this game is a sense of interactive gameplay identity.  I like gear shifts--the option to switch into some form of power mode, but at a cost.  Especially a cost which can easily be overlooked and spin out of control.  Or knowing that there is a thing that I can do that no one else can do, like chop down fully grown trees in 8 double-speed swings of an indestructible axe.

Willow is the only character with a feature like this that I think is poorly designed.  Being insane is an entire part of the game, and freezing when you do so adds a huge amount of consequence to a meter which as far as I can tell, is intended to create a mode of gameplay wherein exists both consequence and reward.  If it was up to me to make a quick and dirty solution, I would just have her attacks ignite flammable creatures that she hits when she's insane.  With this she becomes stronger in a way, but you have to fight more carefully lest second-hand immolation reaches a little further than intended, and certain enemies can't be fought without destroying their rewards.  This can create a similar situation to her old baseburner problem, but at the very least it's more controllable, and it doesn't interfere so directly with the gameplay of going insane.

Anyway, I suppose I should stop here before stream of consciousness decides to continue talking about nothing to do the thread topic even more than it already is.

Woodie.  Lumberjack.  Lucy.  Beaver.  Eats wood.  Is Canadian.  Is Canadian.

Well, I haven't really described my favorite character, but I believe it is Webber. I like all characters that have low sanity (Willow and Wes) just because I have a hard time farming Nightmare Fuel with other characters.

Wes: Balloons make you lose sanity and can tank shadow monsters.

Willow: Low sanity and can tank with Bernie.

Thing is, Webber is my favorite character out of everyone else is because, he solves my #1 problem in the game, Silk.

I have the worst luck when it comes to having spider nests spawn. Usually, they're like on the other side of the map, while my base is prospering through farms and such. Webber solves it by just putting down a nest and problem solved.

Not only that, he can farm Nightmare Fuel pretty quickly as well. With his Spider buddies, they can just fight for you, and you don't gain sanity when they kill the shadow monsters (which is good) so you can just repeat the process, then munch on green caps.
