Before watching the video I imagined it would play out more like drawing cards from two decks tops and perhaps having one die to throw. What is shown in the video does look extremely convoluted and tedious to set up and play with a plethora of things to keep track of. I concur with your sentiment.

I get there doing this to convince us to buy the board game but c,mon, the people who just like one of the skins would have to fork out a fourtune for it.

Don’t the skins come with the standard version too? The kickstarter page seems to indicate that the skins are included in both the standard and deluxe additions.

$79 isn’t still isn’t cheap, but I was expecting at least $100 anyways. I would’ve bought it with no skins.

Edit: just noticed the add on skins. I’m not super interested in them but I guess it could be frustrating if you really really want them and don’t care about the add ons.

$79 for the base game plus shipping plus taxes, so still over $100.

They later clarified/added the requirement to back the base game in order to receive the "free gift".

I wonder if these will all have individual codes. I'll make good use out of Wilson's and maybe Webbers, but my gf would definitely love to have the Willow and Wendy one. Hoping that they won't all be bundled in one code, and will have clear indicators of which code is for which skin

As far as I'm aware, only the Wolfgang expansion is free for early supporters. I think he will be a paid expansion afterwards. The hand painted figure is probably just for early supporters too if I had to guess.

Also just a heads up, there are some things included in the stretch goals that appear to be labeled as "GCU Limited", which is only obtainable from the kickstarter campaign. The stretch goals just revealed that we unlocked a Walter expansion, skin, and Figure (along with Woby), but only for backers? It would seem odd if they made major characters for the boardgame exclusive to backing it. I can understand the extra figures or skin but not the ability to play as a character

Just found comments stating that stretch goal stuff will be purchasable through an online store later on. There is not a lot of stuff that is campaign exclusive, just stuff that you will automatically get for backing, that will be sold separately later

I'm backing up the deluxe board game and I will say it loud that I WANT THESE SKINS TO BE WEAVABLE OR SOLD IN GAME! Exclusivity sucks man, In a couple years there will be new people playing the game wishing they had these super cool skins but they were tied to a predatory market campaign and that sucks!! We are getting a board game and tons of figures in return, its not like our money is being thrown away if the skins aren't exclusive. We all know if Klei sold these skins normally they wouldnt even cost a third of how much you have to spend now for them. Its crazy!

I'm hoping the same thing! Me and my boyfriend are buying together, and we would love to share the skins, if its just one code for everything it would take away a  part of the joy.

I'm legitimately less likely to purchase things if they're exclusive. I know I must be a minority, but if I see "Don't Starve board game with exclusive skins" I think it's predatory so I don't investigate at all but if I saw "Don't Starve board game with a crap ton of weaveable skins for free" I would think that's a great enticement and look into it. I don't know anything about this current board game except that it looks like there was some sort of timed exclusivity thing for the first 72 hours that I apparently missed out on so I don't really care about learning anything about the board game since I didn't get the super prepreorder bonus where I preorder at the start of the preorders for no reason.

For the record, you aren't too late. The kickstarter didn't begin until roughly 12 hours ago. You still have 2 and a half days to get the Wolfgang thing. From what I can read, a lot of the "campaign exclusive stuff" will be available in an E-shop after the campaign is over, including Wolfgang.

The only thing "Early Birds" get is the Wolfgang expansion for free, as well as an additional figure that is painted, and a more artistic card. After the 72 hours, the Wolfgang expansion will be $10 bucks, and probably not include the painted figure and holographic card

 

Backing the campaign seems really worth it if you want to play the game, since there is a significant amount of content being added in the stretch goal box alone (which is free for anyone who gets either the basic or deluxe package). Day 1 and there is already a new character, Walter

If someone followed their campaign, and is thus eligible for receiving the Pickaxe skin for free already, what is the cheapest pledge one can get away with while still getting the all the current and next stretch goal skins? Is the "Standard Pledge" enough or do you need the "Standard Pledge" plus "Land Uncharted" to get every skin up until this point?

I get that the board game company wants to make as much easy money as possible and cash in on people who adore Don't Starve but the whole system, explanations and pricing behind those products is so convoluted it makes me want to cry on the inside.

Addendum: given one pledges within 72 hours of the launch of the campaign.

Edit: since a version of the Lands Uncharted without the minifis is all but confirmed, as well as other content and possibly bundles, this will likely change and not be the best option by the time the campaing ends. My suggestion is to back now a core box for anyone interested in the early bird reward as well as backing any other tier you're comfortable with, then review the options available before the campaign ends and change accordingly.

From what I can tell, the cheapest option would be the standard pledge plus the Lands Uncharted expansion. The currently announced skins are:

• Wilson, Willow, Wendy & Webber skins, included with the core box (standard & deluxe).
• Wolfgang skin, included with the "Muscle Madness" Wolfgang expansion, which is included for free as an Early Bird reward when pledging within the first 72 hours, otherwise paid.
• Pick/Axe skin, included with the Constant Curiosities expansion, which is included for free for those who followed the campaign on Kickstarter before it launched, otherwise paid.
• Walter skin, added to the campaign as a stretch goal, included with the core box pledges.
• Football Helmet skin, included with the paid Lands Uncharted expansion.

These are also the same requirements for all (current) gameplay content, all other rewards only add physical add-ons without any gameplay addition.

Note that when pledging, there's no mention of the free Wolgang or Constant Curiosities expansions, other than the option to add the Constant Curiosities expansion at a cost. You do not need to add, and qualifying rewards will be included in the Pledge Manager, according to the FAQ. Unfortunately, from what I know, the Pledge Manager will only be available after the Kickstarter campaign ends, so we have to trust that it'll work. Pledge Manager should allow backers to change or add rewards.

Also, shipping and taxes are not included, to be charged at a later date.

It is convoluted and, somehow, this one is relatively easy to understand. Just check GCU's other campaigns. Or don't, if you don't need to lose all your sanity at once. "This one includes all you need for X" options would be very helpful.

Yes, the boardgame is complex from the perspective of people that don't usually play complex boardgames, but for people like me that sometimes play 8 hour long boardgames the systems they made in this game are super streamlined and well designed.

The game will be endlessly replayable and expandable.

Plus the creators are already asking people on Discord to leave positive reviews on social media even though the game has not even been released yet. People were quick to point out that it is a questionable practice.

That's just the usual Kickstarter marketing fluff, can't avoid that in today's age.

But the prototype is real. And the prototype is good. The foundation is solid.

 

Casual players will definitely enjoy the base game. 

The minimum boardgame is not expensive, it's just 80$ and it will definitely be worth the price for you and 3 other friends.

If you play it a minimum of 4 times, that is 5$ per person per game. Highly worth. A cinema ticket is more expensive.

If you play it 20 times in your lifetime, that is 1$ per person per game.

If you play it 100 times... you get the point

 

And of course if you want to expand the game, you will be able to buy expansions later too.

Since a version of Lands Uncharted with acrylics instead of minifigs is as good as confirmed and with other add-ons to come, I think it's futile to try and figure out the best combination at this point. My recommendation right now to anyone is to back now including the core box (standard or deluxe) if you want the early bird reward plus whatever else you feel comfortable backing, and review and change items as necessary before the campaign ends.
