The "Hostile Takeover" update and Klei Fest are coming this Thursday, June 12th!

Highlights Include:

  • New boss and conclusion to the Lunar questline
  • Wandering Trader
  • Adding electrocute states for most creatures
  • Ocean drowning QoL
  • Structure Alignment options
  • New controller scheme options

As always, we'll also be bringing new skins, new streaming drops, a special Klei Fest login reward, and more!

Unfortunately, we need a little bit more time for console and will release on PlayStation and Xbox about a week later, and Switch will come a short while after that.

…Huh, didn’t expect it to conclude so quickly. I assume the patch is being pushed in particular for the controller changes, since the PC part of the playerbase admittedly doesn’t have many controller users and those are the real targets to changes like this.

Just to be sure, we are going to be getting a few updates after the beta drops, yes? I know a lot of people were looking forward to things like the hail and the like. I don’t mind an early release for the former controller changes, as those are important, but I hope it doesn’t compromise the latter.

I think it is for Kleifest that is happening every year, we can always wait for qol update anytime soon ;>

Klei Fest can't be moved. We have some extra things we needed to do for the update that moved things around a bit content-wise (server work and controller work). We're probably looking at some additional stuff coming after Klei Fest.

Thank you for the heads up, this is exactly what I did wanna hear. I do still feel a bit bad it came out early because of Klei fest, but I hope the team can add the content afterwards. I appreciate the transparancy!

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, the boss isn't finished? The post-world events haven't been tested yet at all, and Moonstorms are still non-functional in the beta.

I'm ultra confused? Where's the Drying Rack stuff and the Lunar Hail?

I normally try to stay positive here on the forums(lord knows y'all get so much flack for even the most minor of perceived sleights) but it's so disappointing to see yet another update chopped up and released in waves. I'd rather get a small update of nothing but bug fixes than have a bigger yet incomplete update. I thought the point of less frequent updates was supposed to mean we'd get more refined, fully realized updates(not bigger; just completely finished) instead of them being piecemealed out in half-functional chunks =(

I can't help but wonder what the heck is happening behind the scenes.

I'm surprised your going through with that already, given that everyone but like 3 people despise the "Hostile Takeover" part of the hostile takeover update. Or that they've been complaining about rifts doing this exact sort of thing for the last 2 years straight.

This feels very rushed, please consider postponing the update. Not only it's not properly tested, it has been in the beta for what, just two or three weeks? Not even a month like usual.

I'm extremely frustrated to see the destruction of Pearl's island to be set in stone so quickly and never be addressed by the devs here on the forums. I don't understand why the new boss fight has absolutely happen on her island, destroying a unique landmark of the world in the process. The relocation feature is quite nice but it doesn't entirely solve the issue as it doesn't allow to recreate the island in its original state after the new boss fight is done.

Klei, I'm begging you, please reconsider this decision while there's still time. It doesn't have to be like that. There's plenty of room in the ocean to fit a new island.

Feel like the Scion really needed at least one or two more attacks or something. The big scary true final boss having three attacks (less than half the attacks of its first phase) stretched out over 18,000 health doesn't feel right.

I'm afraid that spaghetti code of a 10+ years old game is happening behind the scenes. That's why such a simple thing as adding an additional slot on a damn drying rack is taking so long, in a normal enviroment, where you got everything in order, packed within classes, not localised functions all doing the same thing over and over but a little different each time (insanity checks for example) it would be a 1 day job maximum, coding wise. Perhaps it's the problem with art and animations? Maybe I'm mistaken and all this is happening because of something entirely different but I would bet it's a scenario where a small studio came up with an idea for a game that was supposed to be supported only a couple years but turned out to be a big success and they are left with their own custom engine and a mess of a code to go through. Have you even seen what has been happening to completely unrelated things in the beta branch? Like the spider queens straight up disappearing
