Normal ONI should be replaced by ONI Space Out. I probably wouldn't play another DLC without the ONI Space Out DLC.
Please bring DLCs in addition to Space Out. I have to admit, Regular ONI sucks. I am sorry about that.

Finally! After thousands of play hours... I can throw more money at my favorite game! :D

What about new Dupes/Story traits?! Are those going to be part of the QoL updates still, or will THOSE also be part of the paid DLC's now?

reading the details paints a picture of dlcs in the sense of dlcs - official "mods" you activate in addition to the regular game (spaced out feels less like a dlc and more like a "oni v2" in that regard), so I assume these new content pack dlcs will handle similar to mods - activated in addition to the main selection (base game/spaced out)

Many a soul have been waiting for the implementation of "irl moniez" into in-game goodies. So, as far as I'm concerned, it's a win-win as long as these become the funding for universal game mechanics and further bugfixes as well.

That being said: Will the "loyalty quality" thingies be released into the "eventually purchasable" category? A.K.A. I still resent visa/paypal/the-powers-that-be etc. for not letting me support some plushy that was kickstarted some time ago and I'm out of a puft bed as consequence of things out of my control...

I'm worried about the compatibility that was originally talked about in the previous roadmap, but I'll guess we;ll have to wait and see. I'm not too fussed about waiting longer or paying for the DLC

kinda side question, how will the forums handle this? Currently each DLC for a game has it's own forum section, but you're mentioning multiple DLC's in the next few years and it's gonna make a right mess on the layout

Why o why would you call paint and clothing colors "Blueprints"? We need real blueprint support.

I loved this game for way too many hours getting overly frustrated at not being able to repeat build sections with blueprints, until the mod.

Need to be able to scale up my building building like I scale up dupes and size of my area.

I really look forward to new DLCs, here's my wallet.

As long as there's something new, I'm for the idea. But does "See you at the next DLC!" mean that there won't be major updates before its release? I've been wating for something new since last November (not including the small updates). Just hoping next update won't be too long.

Am i only one dissapointed that Klei flatout LIED about no more dlcs just content updates? Aswell as teased the DST like free skin drop system - and now it's like "we gonna make content updates with things like new asteroids that gonna be paid dlcs!! And new skins are also gonna be in those paid dlcs from now on! And our first content update this year is gonna be one of those paid DLCs instead yay!"

Did i understand this right? This feels like a early not funny Aprils fool joke.

Guess Tencent finally managed to corrupt this company aswell.

Well that ruined my day...

Well don't buy it then. There're always willing players supporting new updates and DLCs with dollars, and I would really appreciate it if you just support those developers with your love.

I only feel fooled if new DLCs are really below average, but not because I have to pay for them. Maybe it's just because I've passed the one-sided illusion of "love makes game" and accept the idea "you get paid for your work".

We'll see.

DLCs with only a single new Asteroid start + some new creatures biomes and buildings. From what they mentioned.

Does sound like fraction of what SO! DLC contains. (Even in early days of SO! dlc.)

And the fact they announced there will be short time between DLC releases is to me another huge red flag in this announcement. One that indicates that this might be indeed the case.

I don't blindly trust Klei.

Nor should I.

I'll just wait and see how this content dripfeeding via DLC spam plays out ...

What about the old fashion way of working on ONI 2.0 ?

I feel like adding incremental interesting feature and keep compatibility with 2 version makes it much harder for you.

Keep all the good stuff you learn here and implement awesome new mechanics as you see fit ?

Anyway, instant buyer

Absolutely AMAZING news !

The Spaced Out DLC has been a ton of fun and obviously big updates to the game will only happen if the players pay for that. That's how quality content works. I can't wait for the next DLC. I only hope it's actual content(new buildings, planets, critters etc) cause cosmetic stuff are not interesting to me at all. But i am 100% willing to pay for good new content.

I really disliked it when Klei decided they would go with the free updates route for ONI when that happened. I knew that this basically would mean that the game will not get a lot of new content and this is exactly what happened. Understandably so.

I love this game, it's my all time favorite by far, got more than 3k hours on it, and the introduction of new paid DLCs is music to my ears !

Several game studios can prove you wrong on that one but ok.

I would love to see more customization options to world generation in coming updates.

Yes!  I want to play, say, Rime with the Glaciers and Frozen Core traits, I'd rather not re-roll until I get those particular traits.  Ditto with dupes.  I want a Starry Eyed Bubbles with interests in research and rocketry and I'd rather not re-roll for an hour to her (or worse, save scum if the game's already in progress).  Giving us the tools to customize our experience allows us to each play the game in a personal and pleasing way.

Klei has already been providing tons of free updates too. At some point this is not sustainable for a company. They will either have to minimize the amount of new content or just focus on new paid games if they don't receive new funding.

Quality content requires to be paid for, otherwise it won't happen or will be limited. ONI has been quite stale in regards to updates after spaced out and that was because Klei made this ridiculous decision to please beggars rather than focus on new quality content.

I am absolutely delighted that they are going with new paid DLCs, can't wait. Sure QOL updates and minor updates of the base game should still be a thing for free, but I hope that significant new content will be planned (like spaced out) and will be paid for.

I think one thing is very, very important, and that's integrating the DLCs properly with existing content. You kind of have double work on your hands as a result of Spaced Out being so different, but I think it's essential a DLC encompasses both vanilla (if the number indicate people still play it, I actually don't personally) and spaced out! in a meaningful way. Say in SO, if the DLC just adds one new asteroid to the starmap, that might ultimately be underwhelming. What could be done is making it a new starting asteroid with it's own challenges, while also shuffling up the rest of the available moonlets accordingly. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I think it's important that DLC asteroids are not just isolated onto themselves, but create new situations with existing content.

Another thing I think important is that DLCs bring new systems or mechanics to the game, not just new entities (biomes, critters, buildings etc). Perhaps not so massive a thing as radiation was, which altered the technology progression and such massively, but smaller systems that can even be "native" to the DLC asteroid but still doable on others. Extreme cold is currently of little use besides liquid hydrogen/oxygen, perhaps fleshing out it's uses could be such an addition to make it more than just a new set of biomes/critters/buildings etc.

All in all, really exited to see what you do with the DLCs. I do hope for more than just new starting asteroids, but even if it's just new biomes and critters and buildings, if priced appropriately, that would be fine too I suppose. But it wouldn't really shake up the game if it doesn't introduce new systems to think about.

best of luck with DLCs!

these selection features can be gained with the mods Duplicant Stat Selector and Cluster Generation Manager, but I agree, there should be a built in version of it

I'm generally one to shy away from mods, but I'll have to check those out.  Thanks.

These are my only two concerns.  If the new elements and critters and whatnot aren't integrated into the base game and SO! experiences, these new maps might feel like one-offs, similar to Skewed in The Lab.  And without new systems, they might feel like puzzle challenges; things you do once or twice before returning to the standard ONI experience.

so let's see, spaceout dlc was $12.99. this isn't d4 that gave a crap game that cost 70 and also market 50 for skins...
you guys complaint about a dlc that cost less than a lunch meal or 2

back on topic, creating a dlc that adds on like spaceout would dramatically increases and change the way you play the game, and add things that are too big to be released continuously in a spam of let's see a year or 2, i'm sure a lot of us would rather they continuously do dlcs to have content more quickly instead waiting minor updates every few months

there are two studios that haven't disappointment me in the last 10 years; larian and klei

Being angry for the sake of being angry is a serious credibility destroyer unless your goal here is to look as entitled as possible (which is also a TERRIBLE look). Maybe wait for an example to materialize instead of punching at the air and putting on the tinfoil hat to scream "DOOM!"

As much as it is hard for you to believe it there are games that don't have any content locked behind DLCs or don't have any DLCs at all and still recieve quality content updates - and did it for much longer than Klei did for ONI.

Give 1 example of a studio that supported a game for +9 years like Klei did

You do realize they have to make money to pay their employees right? this isn't a charity or a Bell labs type situation
