Huge Bug Fix Beta Available Now!

After playing this for a bit, the game definitely feels a lot more stable. Before this beta patch, I would get this really weird bug where the game would freeze everytime I left the caves. The only way to stop it was to save and quit and then log in again to continue playing in a stable manner.

Speaking of caves, I noticed that generating a cave no longer takes five minutes, which was weird, but it's gone now. The caves now generate in about 12-15 seconds. The massive slowdown that occurred when entering the caves is also gone. Speaking of world generation, they also patched that weird bug where the projector reel sound effect that played during world generation would continue playing when Maxwell introduced himself to you when starting a fresh world. World generation also had its loading time reduced immensely, and is now much shorter. It's very noticable on lower-end computer specs.

For Reign of Giants, I haven't been able to make the cave and overworld seasonal clocks get out of sync yet, so that's a good thing and a plus in my book. I have yet to start world hopping, so take my observations with a grain of salt.

I also have yet to crash the game by doing anything crazy.

As for the aforementioned QOL patch that may be coming later for Don't Starve, I'm hoping that it brings a few key features from Don't Starve Together. Namely...

- The ability to continue cooking stuff over a fire by holding down Mouse 1 instead of clicking constantly.

- The ability to drop items via holding SHIFT and then Left Clicking on it in my inventory.

- A big ask, but the crafting menu from DST. After going back to DS, I can definitely understand (And feel) how archaic and obtuse the old crafting menu was. It really did limit the scope of what new crafting tabs you could add to it, and having the new menu would be great to have. It might be a bit much to retrofit the old game to have the new menu, but I'd be okay with continuing to use the old menu (Though I chalk this up to being able to understand it after having played so much using it). Also, if the new menu were to be added to DS, I don't know if they would (Or should) add more crafting tabs to it. Imagine being to craft Volcano related items and not having to go back to the volcano after having prototyped them once.

- I would love to see Marble Shrubs and Marble Beans brought into DS. Having Marble be a rare resource is somewhat odd when I really only ever use Marble for making Checkerboard Flooring. I don't believe having easier access to Marble Armor would be that much of a gamebreaker, though I could imagine people saying that its downside is negated by Coffee and what have you. Movement speed in much more plentiful in DS.

As for other stuff for DS, I have yet to get to Hamlet, but I'm hoping that the bug where the BFBs legs continued to remain even after it left is patched. It happened to a friend of mine once when they were showing me their gameplay.

Lastly, I would like to see Baby Water Beefalo added in at some point. I remember them being shown in the teaser image for the 'Home Sea Home' update.

Spoiler

Home_sea_Home_forums.jpg

I also heard they have files in the games, as well as animations and are dummied out. I don't know how much they would change, but it would be nice to see them.

Anyways, thanks again for the beta patch and eventual push into the main branch. Hopefully, after this and the future QoL patch, the game will be much more stable and the team can move onto new things while knowing that this game is finished and in a much more comfortable state.

I'm happy they are finally giving the original some love, but I feel like they are going to finish the story soon and that makes me sad. Not even going to beta test this time though, because I work and last time they promised coins, I didn't get any. And I usually have to get up extra early to get to the laptop and it's not worth it when I work nights and barely get any sleep as is. I'm just going to wait for the switch version to come out so I can play on my break.

or accidentally going slow forever if they switched as Wilbur or wimpy Wolfgang.

Wimpgang doesn't work, but then just remove wilbur penalty or re-add this whole bug as some sort of super-obscure exploit like how stealing wilbur's speed requires you to break a piece of armor during the worldhop animation and run nonstop.

For a lot of my friends who poured a lot of hours into DS, the one other thing besides the additional content that makes it fun are the exploits. I would really rather them not be removed, and if you want the "legitimate" player to not come across them by mistake, I think I'd rather you just make them more obscure to obtain.
If even Toby fox can leave behind exploits on purpose for speedrunners, and if people enjoy Melee *because* of the broken stuff in it, I think exploits that add depth to the game should be allowed to remain in one way or the other.
A lot of them are just extremely satisfying to utilize, and since these are things you can no longer do in DST already, it's pretty sad to let go of some really cool obscure stuff that's been here for years. Patching them straight-up just removes a lot of things that remove significant gameplay differences between DS and DST for a bunch of people including me.
Some bugs make a game bigger than intended, and among the list, there are at least four of them.

Yes, I can amass massive amounts of meat in no time either ways, but it's simply far more satisfying to watch things burn to death non-stop than make my 3675823684th werepig farm. I already have to do that in DST.

This is just wishful thinking, but I'd love at least some sort of debug thing where you can add select bugs back into the game, in the same way that toby fox kept the speed running trick used in deltarune in.

That's an assumption, but that's not the point.
I'm saying, "if you want people to not come across it blind, fix it and leave out an obscure alternative that can only be sought out on purpose elsewhere." It's a pretty good way to make both worlds happy.
Not needing coffee at all times is pretty nice.

It'd be nice if the farming mechanics from DST were added, ngl.

Not to mention a way to craft anti-venom in Hamlet incase you don't have oinks or coral.

Also Hanging Vines, the ones that smack you back, remain even if you set them to not spawn.

Awesome!

I started a new SW game. It seems that saves lag/freeze the UI much less now. It used to be really annoying when that UI lag happened every day.

Thank you for taking the time to address those issues Klei.

Could you maybe find a fix for the ballphins and their palaces?

I visited the bug tracker and saw that there is a registered bug there, just wanted to mention it again here. They are a very important asset for new (or propably also experienced) players and it sucks it does not work as intented.

Thank you for your very important work. Keep it up

Incredible to see this still getting love and attention.

But will we ever see Wurt?!

I love Wurt.

I love Wurt too, but if we get DST characters in singleplayer, 1) I want Wortox first, and 2) at that point it would just be cruel not to add the singleplayer characters to DST.

This update will first be made available on PC, but we’ll working on getting this out to other platforms as well.

We've setup a new bug tracker for Don’t Starve, so feel free to report them on the Bug Tracker! Please make sure to be specific and clear in your bug reports including which DLCs are enabled.

Please focus on bugs and feedback for this beta for now. We will be looking at additional feedback after this beta for an additional QOL update in the future and we'll update with more details about that in the future.

Have fun!

tldr thank you so much

Oh, the Mud spa in Hamlet selling nettle rolls come Lush Season, it would be handy for that first year or so when you haven't gotten the sprinkler system set up yet.

For 100 oincs each otherwise I won't feel balanced

At present, the background room of most caves biomes is "PitRoom", so caves generate a large number of stone bridges and they usually do not connect to any place.I checked the code and found that they all have corresponding BGR. I don't know why they have been replaced with stone bridges. Can you restore it? Such caves are richer in content. For example, the mixed fungal biome was made but not used, and DST used it.

I replaced BGR,This is their comparison.

In addition, the room with ruins entrance ("Stairs") seems to be used during the test, and the note explains this point. But now it has not been removed. I hope it can be improved.
