Piggyback concept

Recommended Posts

So here's a question, let me riddle you folks this...

Would you lot be interested in Piggyback having its slowdown be incremental? Have it go raise the more that's stored in it?
No notable changes for the same amount of slots being used as a regular backpack would, but every item past that increases its slow-down by just a smidge.

This is something that I'd like to propose, as it feels more like an upgraded backpack worth its cost and doesn't entirely remove its quirk either. Thoughts?

EDIT; A friend put together a quick demonstration of the pitch.

So piggyback that is full would have more movement penalty than currently? In that case - no, thanks. If it would be the same -10% for full piggyback as it is now, then I'm indifferent: I use piggyback a lot anyway as backpack upgrade and as compact storage solution at base. And usually I'm using storage capacity of piggyback to it's full potential, otherwise what's the point of crafting it over backpack (aside from being not burnable)?

How would it work with stackable items? Would an inventory filled with 40 stacks of twigs count as 40 times heavier than one filled with axes?

I imagine it'd only count if the slot were taken.
So a full stack in each slot wouldn't be any different than that of another bag with a single item per slot.

It's a fun idea, but after thinking about it I prefer the current piggyback and don't think it needs changes. If it's a buff (e.g. 0-10% slower) then it just makes it essentially a direct upgrade to the backpack. If it's a nerf (e.g. 10-20% slower) it's nerfing a balanced (and underused) item for no real reason. If it's inconsequential (e.g. 8-12%) it wouldn't do much and people probably wouldn't even notice.

Maybe as a new item? Krampus sack size but has a 5-15/20/25% (depending on how it's acquired) speed penalty depending on how much is inside.

I am indifferent, I think the item is fine, I think its under usability just comes from people being scared of a speed down item as speed is seen as so important, but -10% is really small and doesn't affect much. For Walter it's practically "downsideless" as you've got Woby to negate it completely, and plenty of characters have fast travel or fast speed perks to counter it.

Wormwood + Bloom + Cane is always a nice combo, I dont feel the effects of the piggyback all that much with those.

I craft it the first chance I get everytime I play. I think it's quite alright as is, 4 extra slots + it being unable to get wet or burn for 10% speed is pretty fine imo, plus it doesn't matter much if you ride a beefalo, as they're not affected by speed modifiers.

A lot of replies ended up hitting me with the fact that they use speed boosts and/or beefalo.
I didn't really take this into account when pitching the idea, I'm not fond of beefalo so I absolutely forgot about their usefulness when paired with the piggyback.
Side note, editing the main post with a video demonstration.

Seems unnecessary. I use piggyback all the time. There r several survivors and playstyles that can overcome the speed penalty like people have already mentioned.

i dont think it needs to become universally the best option for everyone.

The penalty is already half of what it is in DS:A. And u can just drop it whenever ur fighting. Ppl r too afraid of the penalty.
