I am once again asking for this QoL change

Recommended Posts

Please Klei...my crops are failing, my children are starving, my old pop is sick and dying...the only thing that would help my situation...is being able to plow the snow off the ground using a shovel or something so that I can see the ground beneath me.

That's it! I am a simple person.

(And also maybe possibly give me the snow on hand so that i can make snowballs and throw at people hehehehe jk jk)

Spoiler

...unless?

I always thought it'd cute if salt could somehow be used to melt snow away, or have winter uses in general. Salt's pretty underutilized and considering salt irl is used to melt ice and the such, it would be neat to use salt to melt away snow, pengull ice sheets(which is their spawner, thus getting rid of the pengulls!) and glaciers if you for whatever reason need to get rid of one.

Let me kill Slurtles/Snurtles with salt for a 100% shelmet drop rate Klei!

it is a deliberate downside of the season.

you have to wait winter out for decent base/road building

Ah yes, straining my eyes staring at a white screen for hours and trying to find slightly darker blobs of desaturated snow to fight when I'm insane. The pinnacle of challenge.

Also, "you have to wait winter out for decent base building" is a ridiculous statement. You don't get an advantage from having a nice looking base, why would an entire season be such a detriment to it? Roads, I can maybe understand, but you can also just use the map which DOESN'T get covered by snow.

I'm an advocate for an in-game setting to completely disable the ground snow. For now, though, I've been using this nifty Snow Tile Disabler mod to save myself the headache.

or if it had uses in general

Salt is really cool!! Making salt boxes, freshening up ingredients for a fresher crock pot result, keeping rarer ingredients like leafy meat and barnacles around longer, general use, etc. I find myself using up enough that I want to go collect more every year or so!

I guess I have never used salt correctly...

Turning off rain in the world causes it not to snow in winter, though, this is sort of thing is annoying if you want rain in the following season of Spring. It'd be great if they were separated somehow, like how they separated Ice and Fire hounds in the settings, unsure how simple of a fix that is though.

I always love your ideas. How creative.

I always felt dwarf stars should have the ability melt the snow around them. Since they also help plants grow throughout the long nights of winter they would become a winter farming staple. It wouldn't be super cheap early game, but you'd be greatly rewarded for your efforts!

So Wickerbottom's rain book could prevent snow tiles from appearing on the ground? Whoa. This is too big brain for me.

I don't think so, when I said "turning off rain" I meant in the settings. Now that you mention it, I think I tried doing that at some point in winter and it did cause it to stop snow for a bit but I think it started back up again not too long after. Or maybe it didn't work, can't recall fully.

...my old poop is sick and dying..

That got a brief "wot" lel from my inattention reading OP.

Nevertheless, would be nice if KLei added some way of removing Winter snow-tile visual obstruction to organized base-building; yet, in the meanwhile, there's also this mod: -婊ら暅- (it has many filtering options; in it's full usage leaves all objects/entities & particle-effects foundation coloring unaltered for very pretty print-screen captures).

That would be great! As someone with floaters winter is the most annoying season because I have to put my brightness all the way 0 for my eyes to not get agitated by everywhere being bright white color.

I would love a way to clean snow off the ground then at least I can have my base which is where I spend most of my time during winter not make my eyes go crazy lol
