Is it me or Willow could be way better than she is rn?

Recommended Posts

So, Willow is supposed to be a "pyromaniac" but she kinda doesn't really have any good perks for it?Like yes she have her lighter(which is just a lighter), she has fire and heat immunity and also gets sanity from standing near fire(oh and also she can cook faster on fire), but that's really it?Don't get me wrong these perks are cool but for a character who's entire personality is built around burning things having only perks related to it as "fire good cold bad" doesn't really fits for me, especially counting how in her rework instead of making her fire themed perks useful enough to be a reason to pick a character Klei made her a new follower based character with her Bernie toy that can some times be useful(and also requires you to be at low sanity).Yes i know that a lot of people already said that Willow is not the best character currently comparing to others, but i really don't even care about how Bernie is very situational follower but about how her "pyromaniac" side haven't really got a good perks following it.I think that she could really get some good buffs making her pyromaniac side more noticable, for example making it useful in combat, making Willow's fire not cooking enemy's loot, dealing more damage and generally being better than usual fire in fight. Also would be cool of making her more powerful while being insane, yes she already can summon Bernie while being so, but i want to point that in original Don't Starve if Willow was on low sanity she couldn't control her fire power and will summon fire by herself without help of any other item, so why don't make it an upside?Make it so while insane Willow's fire powers are on maximum and deal the most damage.

Her rework was righting the wrong that they did to Willow back in the early days and then instead of making her true to her title of being a pyromaniac, she instead became Willow the BERNIE master.

It's also gets more infuriating since pvp & Willow's fire immunity was the reason Willow turned into was she did back in the day and their fix was straightforward: just check if pvp is enabled for the fire immunity!!!

And yes, I understand that fire in inheritably destructive in this game, it still doesn't change this irritation I have with Willow right now.

This. Exactly this. Glad I'm not the only person that thinks it.

Is it greedy of me to want Willow to get some more fire related perks and some Bernie buffs/QoL? I sympathize with everyone wanting the former and don't blame them if they have a soured attitude towards the bear as a result, but man.. Aesthetically speaking, I think that Bernie is rad as hell and would hate for him to be forgotten about.

Correction, she has a negligible resistance to overheating, not outright immunity. Not pointing this out just to go "actually" but because this is one of the fire related perks that I wish she did have.

Or maybe "fire adjacent" would be more accurate? Whatever doesn't matter. :p

I think Willow barely tapped into the potential of what a pyromaniac can be in DST. The direction with her rework was really strange. I don't think it's too greedy to ask for another rework, considering how powerful characters became after recent reworks. At least give her explosives and upgraded versions of the lighter.

I know but just didn't want to go in details and said at as simple as possible

I would love some kind of battle perk similar to this.

I like what they did with Wickerbottom's pyro book.

You cause fires as Wickerbottom, she reads the book, and in return, gets a pen which is like a fire staff.

It's simple but it's a formula I can see working well for Willow, that is, Willow starts a fire, she harnesses the fire, then she can do xyz.

Cause right now, her perks make her more of more of a fire fighter than a fire starter since she puts out fires faster w/o taking damage lol.

I figured as much, it just always bugged me how the character who is immune to fire is still susceptible to heat stroke. It just feels weirdly mundane, ya know?

That moment when a literal nerd emoji got better pyromaniac related perks than an actual pyromaniac

Pyromaniac- Someone who likes lightning things on fire, watching stuff burn.. etc.

Pyrokineses- Jean Grey of the X-men, uses the powers of her MIND to summon & Control FIRE out of thin air.

Make up your minds guys.. do you want Pyromaniac (What Willow has been shown as by needing a match/lighter to start her fires?) which indicates Bernie himself is Magical…

Or do you want a Pyrokineses where Willows using the power of her own mind to Animate Bernie to life (proven to be inconsistent with lore since even without a Willow player present in the world at all Bernie will animate to life and Dance around to distract shadows for low sanity players) this would ALSO Imply that Willow never needed a Lighter… or a Match, and could instead have created floating balls of fire from the palm of her hands and made wings of fire to glide around with?

If Willow is going to suddenly become a Pyrokineses it needs to be explained away with lore, a continued narration of how she transitions from needing matches/lighters- to being able to summon and control fire etc..

Just like how WOODIE’s new transformations was explained away by him meeting up with Wickerbottom and learning how to use his curse to his own advantages.

I like Willow as a character but If she’s going to become Jean Grey, at least EXPLAIN why she needs a Magical Lighter and a Teddy Bear (that still works when she’s not around)

I think there will be some Character Re-refreshes.
Willow, Woodie, Walter, Wigfrid could use some touch ups. (Wendy maybe something that isnt just Abigail related, maybe focus on her downsides just me personally).
Willow needs well more besides Bernie
Woodie (just personally) needs some more interaction with Lucy. I just miss when Lucy cared about Woodie's well being instead of being a Sapthirsty tree murderer.
Walter, I see so much talk about his ammo or attack speed or something, idk I don't play him.
Wigfrid, (again just personally) her downside of "Only eat mat" isnt a downside anymore with how many crockpot foods are technically meat. Though I think a Crockpot refresh would fix that issue. Same goes with Wurt.

Its nice to see other people sharing this mindset...
Don't get me wrong, I love Bernie, I do, but he shouldn't have been the focus of her rework.
Willow needs some love right now. I'll take about anything honestly but I'm hoping she gets the same treatment Wurt/Wortox did in an upcoming update.

Simmer down there, I don't think anyone has suggested anything that outlandish. Shooting fire from her hands? Yeah I agree that's a bit much. But being able to set things on fire and not burn the loot? I don't think that's any more unreasonable than fire immunity by don't starve standards.

We picked the fire character for fire, we are indifferent to conventional, magical, psychic; we want fire and practical uses for.

Also Jean Gray is not a pyrokenetic, the most famous fire related mutant is called Pyro, and despite being able to manipulate fire very well, he had no capacity to create it, his costume has a flamethrower built into it to compensate.

No one here wants Willow to shot fireballs out of her nostrils. I personally want explosives, more lighter types and magic fire that neither spread nor burn loot.

willow totally could use more things right now all that she can do can be done with a normal player with a scalemail
I think shadow flames would be cool its fire damage but not hot damage so willow can use fire to her advantage without putting everything into jeopardy.
these new flames can have the original fire tick damage since in together  they cut fire tick damage in half.
Stuff to give a reason to use willow
fire stunning is great and would be a nice thing to make more powerful to willow with shadow flames.

My suggestion is that Willow could maybe be able to make a cheaper version of gunpowder (recipe: 1rope +1charcoal+1papyrus). With almost same amount of damage (100-150 instant damage plus ongoin fire damage as normal),  being stackable like normal gunpowder, bit bigger blast radius, but maybe allow willow to throw it like the grenades in ds shipwrecked as well.

Call them firebombs or something more creative.

Rework fire damage so it does abit more damage overtime and instead of all loot being turned to ashes if a mob dies. Make it so its like a 50/50 chance to obtain ashes per loot item, make inflammable items that are loot drops like mactusks tusk or hounds teeth, for example, never burn to ashes.

I don't get why people are so against the idea of Willow having pyrokinectic abilities.

Wickerbottom was lifted into the air and given thousands of books worth of knowledge. Wilson were given forbidden knowledge. Wolfgang was roided up.

So why is is so weird that Willow, in a fragile state, would make a 'deal with the devil'?

Willow was mistreated in the orphanage. She was never adopted, was no doubt told she'd never be adopted. They offered to 'adopt' her, in exchange that she'd work for Them. Years of frustration was let out which caused that explosion.

She got everything she wanted. She was 'adopted', she got food, clothes, a way to stay warm and self made entertainment. EZ Clap

fire in general needs some touch up. Enemies on fire shouldnt drop ashes if the loot cant burn like gears and gems from bishops turning into ashes for some reason. Also the damage should be higher atleast for regular mobs (and willow dealing even more as perk)

i love using fire but most of the time isnt worth or creates more problems that fixes

willow with her fire inmunity brings some interesting playstyle (like setting a tree on fire and being so close to it that enemies cant reach so you basically press F to kill them) but not enough, i think buffing fire can lead to more fun strategies

edit: also, if she is really pyrokinetic and not just pyromanic, her lighter could work as a fire staff against enemies, you hold it and you can set enemies on fire right clicking on them
