  1. 1. How would you prefer it ?

    • In-game Gramophone structure
    • Menu / UI only
    • Something but not the Gramophone
      0
  2. 2. How would you prefer the collection to be completed like

    • Cookbook like - permanent unlock
    • Sculpting Table like - world dependent unlock
    • All the musics should be always available

I'm someone that listen to a lot of music and not really stuck with genres but more with who make it or a franchise styles, and Don't Starve managed to strike me with a variety of nice songs and listening to certain musics that drop in for only a time in the menus make me wish they'd remain in the game longer.

How would you want / like something to be done in that regard for game jukeboxes and soundtracks enjoyers ?

A classic would be some menu section where you can play pretty much any track, bunch of games have been doing that and that works just fine, but I prefer when it's anchored to the gameplay with a more or less interactive style of OST collection, especially if that mean : you get to hear it in-game.

Onto that aspect I can think of something simple but different layers of details could be applied to it. Obviously it's about that evil good old gramophone making a return as a decor structure. Past this that's were different solutions could be applied and I'm wondering how other players would prefer this but meanwhile you tell me about it here's how I idealise the thing :

  • The obtention of the structure could be a simple craft or found somewhere (Stage Hand like?) but getting the tracks could be the fun segment !

  • Tracks would be permanently unlocked in a Cook Book / Plant Registry sort of fashion. I like collections but this one might be better to complete as a multiple-run thing than to be re-achieved everytime like the Potter's Wheel.
(Plus, it's always possible to reset a collection file to re-experience the completion again, that's a fun thing to do with the Cook Book)

    • That might be a better way to put certain tracks behind invested mechanism, example by playing a certain character for their menu themes, or making it to a certain season, location or defeated a boss that have special OSTs unlock the track right away or they could all have some craft with the gramophone as a crafting station using items related to it. Which might be better to have all the different update menu themes too.
(Just please I don't want to be spammed with sketch like loots unless it's 100% wanted)

  • Music could be on the client side and keep playing as long as wanted, so everyone can listen to what they want, vibe without having the music to stop in 10sec as they stop doing anything and prevent other musics to override it.
[ farming music start paying ]

  • Could be mod friendly so they make their tracks and have their own tab like the other collections have and custom obtention methods / crafts.

So that's the concept and discussion for today, I agree that the thing could be simple too, it's just that usually I like to... do stuff, for things, so you have my interpretation of it. But the main goal is : uninterrupted music made fun.

We see the Gramophonein reap what you sow short and it can talk to plant so I think it should be one of the feature.

I've completely forgot about that thing, and didn't realise that it was likely to be a Voxola until now .________.

So might be cool alternative if the Gramophone isn't fit for such a thing, I don't know all the lore implications that might / might not be a problem :)

Spoiler

also idk if it should affect the plants, at least under the concept I listed because that would kinda toss over all the other mediums to talk to them if it's always active, but cute noneless.

I like to imagine that a Jukebox could take records you craft using sketches for individual themes:

  • Bearger Sketch - E.F.S.
  • Deerclops Sketch - The E.F.S. of Winter
  • Moose/Goose Sketch - For The Glory of Spring
  • Dragonfly - The Floor Is Lavae
  • Ancient Guardian - Epic Ruins
  • Toadstool - Warts and All
  • Bee Queen - Flight of the Grumblebee
  • Klaus -  Krampusnacht (phase 1&2)
  • Antlion - Against the Grain
  • Ancient Fuelweaver - AF theme (phase 1&2)
  • Malbatross - The Big Bird, Malbatross
  • Crab King - Crab King theme*
  • Celestial Champion - Celestial Champion theme
  • Eye of Terror/Twins of Terror - Terraria Boss theme
  • Anchor Sketch - Sailing Again, Waterlogged, Pirate Monkeys
  • Moon Moth Sketch - Crabby Hermit
  • "Moon" Sketch - Lunar Island work

As for the rest of the ost, I dunno. This is as far as I got.

Great idea. I would also like to add on to the idea for the world structure. Perhaps in addition to a stationary thing you can use to set the mood of an area, you could have a portable one. I can imagine how it could look in hand, head, or body. I think hand or head would probably be best though.

Imagine a Warly riding along on a beefalo with a music player in his hands, and it Doppler's the song as he rides up then past you. It would be hilarious.

what if the track act like some kind of achievement, every time you finish a task (kill boss/ planting giant crops,...), you will unlock a music track "knowledge", then you use this "knowledge" inside the jukebox/radio to unlock the track

Maybe they could add new remix to the track as a "special achievements" for doing something?

I use the word "knowledge" is because I want it to be something "non physical", if it is a physical item, it will be very annoying to deal with (inventory management, server junk,..)

To be honest I would like sort of mixed system - a bit like the sims 3 (or 2? Don't fully remember), where you could remove/add tracks in options, but also use radio/stereo system in game. Maybe I want to silence all music except friendship one (that little thing that plays when feed pig with meat)?

Anyway I still feel like we should have more audio options since as now if you want to silent just one sound type or music, it's all or nothing. I'm using a custom mod to silent certain sound individually but to me that should be more accessible.

I've always had the idea of an equipable boombox which plays your music wherever you go GTA custom radio style. :D

But your idea actually has a chance getting in the game, the cookbook-like song unlocks and a lantern-like item would be the best imho.
