Late game content will eventually arrive as the story of the game progresses. I personally would love a caves refresh, where biomes other than the red and lunar forests, the archives and the ruins/atrium get more love and the map generation is less buggy.

I’m going to play devils advocate here and just state that this poll is pointless.

Content is Content regardless of if it’s Early Game or Late Game.

For example: Let’s just pretend after 300 Days the seasons change, harsher weathers, new mobs inhabit the constant- that’s all swell but it takes 10+ actual hours to reach and I’ll be so bored repeating the same boring routine hours on end until I reach the part of the game that feels “New” to Me.

Eye of the Storm is content that’s locked behind hours worth of setup to get to- now that there’s a lovely little menu full of things I can toggle on/off/more/less over at my own free will: More people could’ve enjoyed this content without spending 10 hours to reach it had it just been new weather effects available within world Gen configuration menu.

Its late game content if you want to do the 10+ hour quest to reach it, but it would be early game content if you just want to experience it in a span of 25 minutes if you flip the toggle to on.

Same applies to a progressively more difficult world that scales the longer the world climbs in days (im on the fence about this highly popular community suggestion because I’ve witnessed first hand what it does to other game franchises- In short it SOUNDS like something you want that will be fun: Until you realize your effectively putting yourself on a countdown timer- your worlds going to get harder, and eventually it will either become too hard for you to enjoy, or you’ll master it all and be right back here begging for more.

If it’s the former: where your world becomes too hard for you to enjoy, then what? Delete it and start over so it’s not as punishing again?? And how does that transfer into Multiplayer: where say I who am pretty experienced with the game may want to play with my cousins little kid who is about 4.. how is that 4 yr old going to be able to play and enjoy the game with me TOGETHER if I’m on day 300,000+ and it’s insanely difficult?

Do I delete this world and create a new one since PlayStation & Xbox are limited to only 5 world slot saves?

Better yet do me and that 4yr old start a server vote to regenerate the world back to Day 1 easiness?

No… what Klei should do is actually utilize that menu full of things I can toggle on/off/more/less over.

Similar to how I play the game CURRENTLY-

If I’m going to be playing with truly Hardcore friends that night I will make nights longer, seasons longer, change a few settings so that it’s enjoyable to them.

But if I’m going to be playing with a 4yr old in that same world: I can turn off night completely, turn off hound waves or insanity effects, set the world to autumn only. Etc..

My point here is that any “Late Game” content will prevent me from being able to play the game TOGETHER unless there’s also ways to shut that late game content off.

For example: Maybe I have friends who enjoy “More” on hound waves but, those same friends also kill those hound waves in base or forests so an additional option to specifically turn off Fire Hounds would work wonders here: Then those friends can have More on hound waves, while I don’t have to worry about them setting the entire world into a blazing inferno.

Also by locking new content away behind needing to spend 10+ hours to get to it, it makes everything you do UNTIL you reach that new content a boring loop of repetitive gameplay.

So why can’t Early Game Content be Late Game Content and vice versa?

The only way I would ever agree to more truly late game content is if you needed to do it like Minecraft- As in Building a portal to another area of the game that doesn’t impact people still struggling within the beginning area.

That OR- Allow progressive world content scaling and any features added to that to be toggled on/off/more/less at any given time so that the world can be custom tailored based upon the skill level of the people I’ll be playing with that night.

Funny how each time you write anything you need to talk about the toggle more/less feature that most people don't use because most of us prefer to play with default settings, which, are the bases of every content added in terms of balance and just how the game is designed.

We already have a lot of early game content, during the first year, if you have a pretty chill team, you won't be able to do all the stuff that the game gives you, but after day 500 ? The game kind of get cyclic. I think that late game content would be way more interesting, the game already has permanent change to the world with the shadows and gestalts fighting in the Lunar Grotto. Why not have more ? Having both a CC kill and a FW kill could make big changes to the world, that could be great, Maybe in similar way to Terraria ? I'm not asking for a hardmode with every mob getting stronger, but, new biomes overlapping some others (one that could replace the turfs of the mosaic would be neat actually), new mobs, changes to the hound waves (which go from a little threat which reward you with some meat and teeth to a painfully boring task with no benefitial loot in late game, maybe add new hound variants ?).

Ty for the votes and ideas. I see what can I make from this…

I will try to shorten my posts into a TL:DR

Why lock new Mobs/Weather patterns behind the 2nd-3rd game year when Klei can just as easily add Summer Year 1,Year 2, Year 3 Etc to world Gen settings so instead of needing to wait 12+ real world hours to get to that content, you can instead just start the game already in year 3?

Why make the world (who some people still struggle with as is..) terraform & be harder when someone rushes a boss or specific task? Imagine a poor New Wilson huddled by his Campfire trying to learn the game when some Jerk rushes the End Game & Mutates the world around that Wilson into a much harder version? If instead of transforming the land those players hop into a portal & leave the world entering into a new “Harder” Variation server then that Wilson player wouldn’t feel forced into content he was not prepared for.

AND- If the harder version server (let’s just call it New Game +) Was a SERVER Type, then players can host this new version server without needing to do X task or kill X boss- You could join Klei Official servers already set to NG+

Basically what I’m saying is Late Game Content can just as easily be Early Game Content.. & preferably without forcing people into harder stuff they’re not ready for or having to play the game for 12 hours to reach.

You are going off speculation.

If we take the funny hardmode unlock method by killing the two final bosses, you are going to take AT LEAST over 50 days preparing. This is way too long for anyone in their right mind to just casually waltz into a beginners server instead of doing it on their own.

Definitely late game. There's plenty to do early game in terms of base building, gathering materials, setting up for season survival ect. But once you fight the first bosses and get the more powerful tools and farms there's not much use for what you've obtained besides mega basing. I think the celestial champion quests and fuel weaver have been great lategame content, I would personally love more quest lines like that.

Im not good enough to survive til late game so i never get to see any of the sick new content

Nothing they have added with the exception to the celestial champion Eye of the Storm update has been truly late game content-

A good majority of it can be experienced very early in, especially if you get lucky with world Gen settings and end up having them spawn close to you.

You could arguably say fully upgrading pearls hermit home is late game content due to it needing a frustrating flower that only blooms in Summer, but other then that: Even the pearls quests can be done in first few days.

I don’t mind things like Summer Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 that add variety and change things up: But I absolutely do not want to wait 3 in game years to experience that “new” content either, I would prefer just having world Gen toggles that lets me choose which year version my summer will be (Aka I can start the game in Year 3 already..)

That is all of course assuming Klei adds new content in a “through the ages” style the longer your world lasts: the more difficult the game becomes type of progression.
