I'd like to be able to hammer the plank on a boat. Add it as a craftable structure in the boat tab. I hate this thing so much. Even an alternate boat with no plank.

Can I row this way?

No, you want to walk the plank.

Can I cook on my furnace?

No, you want to walk the plank.

Can I open my chest?

No, you want to walk the plank.

Can I raise my sails?

No, you want to walk the plank.

Really, really, infuriating. Takes up a boat corner, has really high priority and I never use it. Please let me get rid of it.

its honestly kinda pointless, unless somehow you break all your oars, but even then you cant get softlocked in this game since you can just die to darkness/starvation/weather

If you're on the PC and this is your world, you can delete it using the console command. If you're on the console or the world isn't yours... I'm sorry about your struggles. But yeah, totally useless thing. It really should be optional.

works to jump when there is a danger like fire in the boat to prevent diying and losing even more stuff or if there is a wurt that can save important things

Yeah I'm on console! Haha. Its where the infuriated part comes in because what actions we can take are based on proximity. For some reason it has a really high priority even when I'm standing on top of a structure placed next to it. Its especially annoying when trying to row near it (same button input).

I don't meat to get rid of it completely. Just hammer it and *poof* gone.

Thank You.. Klei really has no idea how much putting controls all onto the the SAME BUTTON makes the life of console gamers a living hell.. I’ve tried tirelessly to point it out but, people keep accusing me of trying to start some console flame war and that’s just plain ignorant because we should all be playing the SAME GAME…

I really hope they will look into ways of improving console controls like for example maybe holding Y (the inspect button on Xbox) in for longer then a few seconds can be used to Draw/Retract the stupid Plank.

Having the option to toggle ON very small head icons in low left corner showing how far away other players are from you in Km & having their face icons red out with how much health they have left would be a very welcome QoL for Wortox and anyone wanting to actually find and play with their friends/heal them.

In the same way you can toggle this to always be ON, I would LOVE an option to disable it completely so you NEVER know where other players are or how close they are to you.

Burnt structures should be fixable (imagine the menu that pops up when you want to build the celestial portal), the material required to fix the burnt structure should be what you would need to build a new one minus the materials it would drop if hammered. It's a pain in the ass when something surrounded by walls burns, and now you have to destroy all walls just so you can place the thing in the correct place again.

Instead of changing how every burned structure works they can simply refresh how building colission works so in thar way they fix many annoying things

the plank exists so you can leave a public crowded boat anytime you want, its pretty vital for online servers

Its useless to me as a solo player, again, I only want to be able to hammer it, not remove it from the game.

but then people would always remove it by default and it would never be there for those rare times folks realize they need it.

Like someone said, you can always die on the boat to leave it. I have never used the plank personally and that isn't an exaggeration. Even now as Wanda I just teleport between my boat and my base

If that's their choice then I don't see a problem with that.  At this point I think it has been in the game long enough for people to know what's its for and chances are a new player isn't going to have a hammer at the ready to even find out its hammerable. Probably only if they're frustrated with it and try to get rid of it, like I have.

Alternatively, there can a be a separate craftable boat that doesn't have it by default, so new players don't "accidently" hammer it.

A much simpler solution would be to have the plank itself be craftable, maybe for like 1 board. New players would be able to learn about it and know what it would do, and players that find it annoying wouldn't need to have it on their boat.

Make some sort of vortex tile (or add anyyyy kind of mechanic) that can serve as a disposal area for vanquishing unwanted items in the base. It can even be a late-game item so that people won't craft one for the sake of griefing at the beginning of a world. Anything to combat the accumulation of hound teeth / rot / manure / stingers that arises in base areas as the game goes on. I don't care if I have to pick up items that litter here and there as long as I can dispose of them in a somewhat efficient manner. Past day 1000 hound teeth are flooding the base and there is literally nothing intelligent you can do with them. All it does is contribute to lag. (Okay, it's mostly hound teeth. Other resources that tend to litter the base can be dealt with in various ways).

Or maybe I should simply try setting up a Lureplant to get rid of them........

Or something more simple yet elegant... do it like in Shipwrecked DLC, throw unwanted items into the ocean and wait for it to sink. Heavy objects faster, light ones slower... Maybe the mechanic already is in DST, but if so, it takes ages for items to sink

I’m glad this thread got revived since the current QoL was added in as extra & there’s still a planned Roadmap one coming, this gives people a place to post their QoL suggestions for that upcoming update. We don’t know WHEN that update is going to come, but we most certainly know one is still planned to come, so with that said there are a few things I would personally like in that update-

Water Logged Content added to that menu of things you can toggle on/off/more/less over because yes.. I do want more Grass Gators thank you.

An ability to from the settings Menu Mute all players on headsets in settings before hosting/joining a world.

Ability to relocate things like your inventory on your on-screen HUD so for example, your inventory can be at the top of your TV screen instead of the bottom, it baffles me that I have 10 different size options for the inventory… but I can’t simply reposition it elsewhere.

Also Please fix it so that once the games volume settings are lowered it STAYS that way because for some reason the starting animation when you load up the game is very LOUD before your applied lower sound settings take effect you could fix it.. by letting the game remember the in-game volume I set for it even persisting through the starting screen animation of loading up the game.

Being able to tell how close my tamed Beefalo is to dying would be nice information to have too that way I’ll know rather I should keep attacking something while riding it or retreat to let it heal.. because currently- A shaved Beefalo has more visual indication of looking poor and miserable then one that is one hit away from death.

Those are some of my QoL wants but below are some QoL Character touch ups-

Willow- Allow lighters to be refueled with Nightmare fuel, and Bernie to persist to continue following Willow between surface/caves (although you could also just eat cooked or uncooked mushrooms to grow/shrink Bernie.. I feel like if a large Beefalo can now fit in a cave, Bernie should be able to follow Willow.

Winona- Spotlights should prioritize players furthest away from them and without a light source in hand instead of the one closer holding a lantern, when manually controlled by Winona & shined upon Wigfrid, Wigfrid performs better, Winona should be able to repair burned structures with her tools, and placed structures for her should be portable mechanical contraptions that can be picked up and relocated.

Wurt- Allow Wurt to interact with the Royal Tapestry to much like Wendy Soothing and Riling up Abigail- Command the Merm Civilization to be aggressive or passive, Having the Merm king reward better loot based on giving him different types of “pet fish” like to complete his personal aquarium collection would be kind of cool & unique for Wurt too.. Allow Wurt to “Dismiss” unwanted followers they will then run off and jump into the nearest body of water disappearing like WURT abandoning a Boat… returning them to their homes.

If I come up with more qol suggestions I’ll post them later, this is all I can think of for right now.

Okay so apparently PC players can do things console players Can not- such as drag meat over a Gnarwail to tame it or drag items in their inventory over the ocean to get rid of them.

There absolutely needs to be a Console QoL that targets our inability to do that- and no, Official KB+Mouse support isn’t the best way..

If I may: Give console players an option to do those things in a different way, such as- when standing near the edge of land by water.. the ability to press down on the D-Pad to throw unwanted items into the Water to sink. (Just like how Abigails prompts won’t show up unless your near to her)

Not being able to get rid of items can become a huge problem if your running around ditching 10-1% Tools, Weapons and Helms to create 100% ones and free up slots in your inventory, if your on PC apparently you can just hurl unwanted things into the sea, but I think console players would appreciate an alternative for their platform of choice as well.

As far as taming Gnarwail.. let us “target lock him” and then drop the meat at the edge of our boat so it will move towards it for the taming.
