EscapePod.gif

Hi everyone,

We’re testing a new Spaced Out! update on our Public Testing branch today. This update is focused on Rocketry improvements, including some that address the desire for space-saving designs for rocket interiors.

A few highlights from our progress so far:

A self-destruct sequence has been added to rockets. Duplicant passengers can “abandon ship” to take an escape pod and some of their resources to the nearest known planet.

A new kind of space saving toilet has been added. It vents waste directly to the other side of the wall it is mounted to.

The width of the Hand Sanitizer station has been reduced to just one tile to help it squeeze into tighter base layouts.

And as always, a bunch of bug fixes.

Please let us know in the bug forums if you see anything unexpected, and as always, thank you for your feedback!

What does this testing branch contain so far?

Here are the changes we've made so far in this update, loosely categorized:

What is public testing?

"Public testing" means players get to test-drive new content early and give us feedback and suggestions before it goes live. Because this is an unfinished and in active development version of the game, it's pretty likely you'll encounter bugs, crashes or balance issues while playing these builds. We'll try to fix any problems that crop up as quickly as we can, but it's possible you'll lose progress in your games while playing on the Testing branch.

Regarding performance, the Testing branch has additional debugging tools enabled to help us track down crashes. This makes the game run more slowly than the live version of the game.

Please also be aware that once a save is loaded in the Testing branch, it cannot be reopened again in the previous Live branch or previous builds.

What do I do if I find a crash or a bug?

Post it up on the Bug Tracker and we'll fix it as soon as we can. If you can attach a copy of your save file to your report, that helps us even more as we can pinpoint the source of problem more quickly.

Do I have to play the public testing build?

Nope! If you'd prefer to only play a stable build, you can continue to play in the current Default branch until the game launches in full. Playing the Open Testing build isn't necessary, but it helps us a lot to receive your feedback and reports - if you're interested, try it out!

How do I become an public tester?

There's no sign up or registration for becoming an open tester. If you own Oxygen Not Included plus the Spaced Out! DLC and want to join the Testing Branch, all you have to do is play the Open Testing build on Steam.

How do I play the public testing build?

You can switch your branch on Steam using the instructions below:

Spoiler

How to change branches in Oxygen Not Included (Steam)

  • In Steam, click on Library > Games.
  • Scroll down to Oxygen Not Included.
  • Right-click and select Properties.
  • Go to the BETAS tab.
  • In the dropdown, select the name of the branch you want to play. In this case, the branch name is "public_testing"
    • This branch does not require a password.
  • In that same Properties window, go to the Local Files tab and press "Verify Integrity Of Game Cache."
  • Your game will be updated to the the previous branch.
  • Launch and play Oxygen Not Included

Gas and liquid plumbing have been added to the Spacefarer modules. This allows direct venting of fluids into space, or into conduit systems near a rocket platform.

I don't see that change in my beta game. What am I missing? Or is it that you didn't press "save" button? ;)

Other changes are really nice - the toilet has been requested for a long time and the Hand Sanitizer change opens interesting decisions. Good job!

Oops! That part wasn't quite ready for testing . I've edited the post to remove that.

Anyone notices? The water requirement of lavatory has been cut-half. The new toilet uses the same amount water comparing with the previous lavatory. It also changes the lavatory in the base game.

And there's a issue about the new mechanic. After self-destruction, all resources in/on the rocket are half-deleted, including the seeds and artifacts and even the suit.

Although the artifacts can be analysed or put on a pedestal and the suit can be equipped, it seems to crash the game any time horribly. Maybe the mass of these things should be protected or using other solutions?

Yeah, there definitely needs to be a new tag to prevent that from happening. Like perhaps a tag that makes certain items have a 50% chance of being deleted, or in the case of artifacts, never being deleted whatsoever.

Excellent! I like all of these.

Camille is so fu**** ;-)

----

Also gives me an instant crash after unpause on loading my current colony. Seems not only Camille is fu***...  ;-)

Save & log in the bug forum.

Edit: Back to non-preview for now, that seems to work.

I guess this is an ermahgerd moment indeed... Let us take a second to recall the old shape of the building...

On other news, anyone notice sweepy refuses to let go of artifacts? (Has been this way for several thousand cycles on base game, even before mergedown...)

He can have it, I won't deconstruct the dock for such petty reasons.

If every testing updates to Spaced out are base game discussion topics from now on, could the "removed" topic from space out discussion be at least pinned to the top before the move, to be easier to find?

Okay, this forum seems to be against you Jarrett, I didn't get the notification for this thread.

I didn't get the notifications either  Do updates not like Jarrett...?

Artifacts can't go to storage bins (there is no entry for them). You managed to sweep artifacts! Kudos!

Is it space-only toilet or does the design allow us to build it in our bases? I can see the game allows us to build them anywhere, not sure if that is a bug or the feature...

Also, it seems that the new toilet acts as Outhause for the purpose of room definition and morale boost. It is a little confusing, because it seems advanced and luxurous enough to grant the same amount of morale as the Flushed Toilet.

if they only wanted us to build it in rocket modules then i find it likely they would have put it in the rocketry section with the fittings and such

Once this does make it into the game, will this allow for example the filling of a liquid container in the rocket through the rocket liquid input port without having to temporarily build a liquid cargo tank?
