Waterfowl can needs something unique to justify it being a boss tier item

Recommended Posts

The current implementation of the Waterfowl can is a little lackluster. It is effectively a golden tool equivalent for a watering can. The problem with this is that golden tools normally cost basic resources to craft and the Waterfowl can requires a boss drop and a unique blueprint. The waterfowl can is simply not worth the effort it takes to craft.

With the refilling mechanic for watering cans, it is functionally no different to use and refill 4 watering cans instead of 1 waterfowl can. A strict increase in durability would never be enough to solve this. Watering cans are strong enough that the player doesn't aspire to get the Waterfowl can as an upgrade just for a few more uses when they could simply craft more Watering cans instead to get the same benefit.

My suggestion for this would be to allow the Waterfowl can to be filled from the ocean. I am well aware that saltwater is not good for plants. Since the Malbatross is an ocean boss this could be justified by saying that the malbatross bill filters out the salt from the water.

Filling the Waterfowl can from the ocean would be a good upgrade because it gives the player more options on where to fill their watering can in the endgame, when minor chores tend to become overly tedious. Additionally, this would allow players who have upgraded their watering can to fill it more easily in winter. If I am spending boss items to craft a tool there needs to be some actual benefit to doing so.

Well you know.. the dragonscale furnace has infinite durability and does not require any fuel source at all to stay warm infinitely forever.. seems kind of logical to me that the Malbatross Watering can could in fact have infinite durability.

Just saying.. if Scaled furnace can exist and be a thing, so could this.

Scaled furnace is creating heat from the red gems not the scale. So having Malbatross beak Doesn't mean having infinite water supply.

I just don't like that to get it in the first place you have to kill malbatross to get a blueprint, you should be able to craft it at an alchemy engine like other boss items from dragonfly, bearger and deerclops, the beak is even apart of the lootstash drops so you can get it without killing malbatross.

well this might be my opinion and its completely biased but Malbatross is one of my favorite bosses(3rd favorite)and giving people a reason to fight her(im pretty sure its a her right?)is a yes in my book

but again thats my completely biased opinion you can disagree if you want

(also i like your pfp.you have good taste in video games)

How about just replacing it with a sprinkler?

I definitely don't like this idea. It just sounds kind of boring to get all the watering of your crops done for free. Also, it is going to eliminate the fun of trying to automate watering with the already existing fire pump

...Is watering crops fun as is?

Just make it require refilling manually.

Waterfowl can is currently the most useful thing that you get from the ocean. I would argue it's not even the primary loot of the malbatross (most players go for the feathers). Malbatross is already kind of a joke boss, second to lord of the flies. I don't think it really needs a buff.

they already are also how dare you call malbatross a male isn't it obvious that they're feminine?

xd

Okay we can stop that at there and get back on topic, this is becoming a shitpost thread now than an actual discussion. Let's get back on topic before the bobbies shut it down now, eh?

Not a bad idea, but I'd rather see Klei making a well in the game since there's no initial purpose of farming off land unless Klei implements farm boats and something to filter salt water. I don't think this idea is bad - but it makes no sense why it should do that. I think I'd love if Klei would implement such as watering cans could refill in Spring for rain, or them making a well - but there's always a way of getting water underground, either via ponds or... lunar grotto?

Is it just me or that lunar grotto water is technically contaminated sea water?.. Why can we get water from them as ponds anyway? I thought it would mutate plants at best or something.
@ScottHansen here's a fun idea - maybe we could mutate our crops with that water to create a variety of lunar island plant critters? Pome-turtles? Egg-cats? : P
But yes, I dunno if that was supposed to be intentional or not cause I would have assumed that it would work like using lunar tea-pot or something like so. Well. There's always hope to be able to reproduce a lot more dragonfruit lizards as pets.

Another potential idea could be increasing the area it waters so it speeds up the process. Instead of just watering the one tile it could water a 2x2 or 3x3 grid centered on the tile.

Both sound good to me, to make it a really desirable reason to kill malbatross too.

It would also be a good item to carry around during summer to prevent wildfires, given its durability and easy refilling.
