HorseyTheYes
I know we have Wortox who's kinda the closest thing to cannibal I guess, but he'll eat anyone's souls, but I'm talkin a trait which give you an excuse to want to kill any unsuspecting player that enters your domain. It will also have the excuse to bring back an removed food item called long pig, but this character would be only one that can eat without any downsides (well besides being shunned by society of course). And this idea is a bit stupid but maybe they can eat bone shards too? Also the character could be called Wendigo, just putting that out there Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/115362-should-their-be-a-character-with-a-cannibalism-traitbenefit/ Share on other sites
CameoAppearance
Not a huge fan of the name, despite being aware of the legend that inspired it. And I'm pretty sure this wouldn't fly, considering that the Long Pig item - which merely made cannibalism an option, it didn't actively encourage it - got removed for being too disturbing. (Which seems kind of arbitrary to me, especially now that we have mutant zombie hounds and pengulls, but that was the ruling.) It also seems too PvP-oriented, given that PvP has thus far been an optional side aspect of the game. I'm not against the concept of playing as a cannibal but I don't think this implementation of that idea works in DST. MondayNight
Atm we are left with only 1 remaining "new" monster-type creature (auxiliary to main cast and veiled story/lore) to be implemented and I think it will be linked to the "Moon" entity and its filmy characteristics (mutagenic properties, hybridization, lunacy-oriented etc). Cannibalism is a trait of some Constant creatures (spiders, pigs) yet I believe is not enough to also link it as a major feature to said remaining creature. Toroic
It’s a bad idea. I can appreciate people sugarcoating their criticism but this is a perfect example of the sort of idea that should immediately be thrown out upon conception. I’m going to give a partial list of bad design elements that come with this idea. 1) Multiplayer only 2) Requires other characters to die 3) Because of 1 and 2, doesn’t work in games where players are competent... unless 4) Encourages griefing and letting allies die 5) Long pig was removed for a good reason, and there’s zero chance of not only reversing that decision but to build a character around it The list continues but I think I’ve made my point. To be clear, my criticism of this idea is in no way a criticism of OP, and I encourage OP to feel comfortable sharing their ideas on the forums. Lammarr
Wormwood's quotes on long pig implies that he likes it as much as any other meat and he also only loses sanity for eating It. 3 hours ago, x0-VERSUS-1y said: Cannibalism is a trait of some Constant creatures (spiders, pigs) Actually, the majority of the non-boss creatures are cannibals, just like most animals from real life. Mike23Ua
People are going to hate this idea just because they won’t give it the light of Day.. anyone remember the Original Dead Island Trailer Of the little girl falling out the Hotel window? Then the game later came out to not actually include any children zombies or better yet children in it, AT ALL?! It’s because certain topics step on people’s toes. And this is one of them. AHEM- However in a game where Pigs Mutate into Werewolves I am pretty sure Cannibalism already exists in this game Anyway. Just sayin.. Axelocke
Webber is the closest thing we'll get to a cannibal (eating other spiders), but that's more-so the spider half of Webber doing it. So it's really just half cannibalism. Don't Starve's world is dark, but not that dark. (actually, this gave me an idea, it may be too similar to Wigfrid's diet, but what if there was a character that benefits from eating raw meat? i.e: gaining more hunger, no sanity loss or perhaps sanity gained, perhaps eating enough of it could put them in a hunting frenzy or something. could probably be a hound whisperer who believes themselves to be a hound, i dunno.) Pelontriques
don't think that's a good idea, as a lot of DST is more towards co-operation. Higher ESRB means less parents buying the game for their kids, not many people care if it's under Teen, but the moment it goes to Mature 17+ it can discourage some. CameoAppearance
Yeah, kids play Don't Starve. Individual kids might be afraid of some of the scarier elements/monsters or get discouraged by the difficulty curve, but since there's no graphic violence or sexual content it's family-friendly enough that I don't see a problem with letting children in general play it. (I might be less than enthusiastic about an elementary school kid I was responsible for playing on public DST servers because people there can be very mean and/or very vulgar, but dealing with internet randos isn't an inherent part of the game.) Though that's a questionable use of the word "offend". Everyone is different and some people are literally made physically sick or plunged into panic attacks by the creepier creatures on the Lunar Islands, which is okay, every person has a different brain and it was completely reasonable for concerns to be raised after these mobs were suddenly added to the game after over half a decade of absolutely nothing like them. Thankfully this discussion was resolved over half a year ago, and there are now clientside mods to tone the mobs down for those who can't handle them. If anything, I'd say you fail to understand what the problem was and you simply want to get offended, considering you're bringing this up without any prompting in an unrelated thread almost a year after the discussion ended.
