Planting wild Peppernut?

Recommended Posts

I think @Yunru was trying to tell you. The new creature “Pips” they will steal seeds you have laying around, or out of your storage containers and then replant them some where. If you leave peppernut seeds where they can access them they will replant them for you.

This has been my experience as well.  The pips are locked in a room with plenty of peppernut seeds on the ground, no compactor.  The only natural tiles in the room border the top and have 3 spaces below them.  It's been 10-20 cycles and no seeds have been planted yet.

They do plant but my setup had 5 tiles and not just 3

I had them plant 2 out of 4 and the other two kept dropping to the floor.

I see only one cell with five cell high zone, and it is very far from seeds.

Pips cannot fly, so to plant seed.in this only spot they must walk to the left wall, climb up, walk on ceiling to ladder, jump on another side and move some more. Possibly this is just too far away, or never happened if their movement is random

Ok, here is the full story as far as I can determine

- Pips will only plant pepperplant seeds in dirt, not in clay or other soft materials.

- 3 tiles of space below is enough.

- The seeds need to be on the ground. Pips will remove them from containers, but then there is some bug and instead of planting the seeds, they just do the pick-up animation but never plant anything. You also seem to lose one seed this way.

- Seeds are planted fast. So if you do not have a planted one after 1-2 cycles, something is wrong.

And here is a simple recipe for making a dirt-tile: Put down a granite tile, drop 50kg of Algae on it (35C or around that) and drop one 25kg helping of fresh liquid glass on top. The algae goes briefly to 135C or so and nicely melts into dirt. The granite tile helps with cooling it down. The glass gets buried in the dirt. And your friendly Pip will have no trouble planting a pepperplant seed after you remove the granite tile and assure 3 squares space below.
