Can anyone tell me what are the buildings in this picture?

Recommended Posts

Found which I think is a very old screenshot for ONI, are the structures in the middle an old model for Metal Refineries? or is it some kind of water boiler? Also the structure to the far left is that a water tank!? Why did Klei removed (or "scrapped") said structure? and lastly is the deodorizer it's attached to the ceiling instead (there's also one picture with the carbon skimmers built the same way) on the floor!? Any reason why Klei did not implement such mechanic? Anyways thank you for taking your time to answer my questions.

Some possible reasons for the lack of an inline tank:

  • The pipe system is pressurized whereas liquid storage usually is not.
  • Encourage good use of basic building blocks to make storage basins instead of doing everything with buildings.
  • Perhaps they thought inline tanks would make it too easy to work around the power cost of pumps.
  • Avoid the possibility of huge spills when an inline tank would be deconstructed or damaged/destroyed.

I feel like this is the only one that could not be designed around very easily.  The rest can all be integrated to be used as costs for whether to build a reservoir or to use a tank structure.  Make it require power to continue downstream flow, for example.

I agree that water tanks aren`t needed that badly but what about a gas tank? Gases are much harder to contain and even automatic airlocks don`t prevent losing some of the gas, especially if it`s pressurised. A gas tank is something i`d really love to have as a sort of buffer for my hydrogen and nat gas generators.

Or the obvious one: it would feel weird if the tank occupying 6 tiles could contain more than 6 tiles worth of liquid.

1. Compactors can hold 20t of ice which supposedly takes as much place as water, so 20 tiles worth in 2tile sized compactor...

2. Water in 6 tiles is not pressurized, so technically tank can store more (as do tiles, I once saw a tile with 3t of oil. But also of note: tank probably can be submerged)

3. Don't pipes already hold 1t each, making them as effective as tiles?

Ugh, sorry you are right, but that's just more reason to have a buffer-tank, even if it is 6t of water only, it is still only 6 tiles in size when tiles-equivalent reservoir will require at least 14 tiles due to walls, potentially more.

IIRC I remember being told that the water tank was removed because it was too OP.

Spoiler

The water tank is actually called "liquid reservoir".

They've removed way more than that. Not all ideas make it through to the final product... no point in questioning every removed building. Most of them have been replaced by another building or mechanic.

Thank you again for the replies. @watermelen671 can you please direct me to where you got those images and if its not a bother can you please tell me what said structures are in the images. Thank you again.

Is that boot the old rock crusher? If so that's amazing.
