Compact Designs - Power Plants + Airlock

Recommended Posts

Good Evening!

I haven't posted on here before, I usually just read and post on Reddit, but I wanted to share my recent designs on compact / efficient Power Plant designs!

Carbon Power Room

As fully automated as it gets, we cram in six Coal Generators, a Petrol Generator, and a Hydrogen Generator into one room that pumps out CO2 into the room and out the door and upper-left exhausts. The Polluted Water drips out below, into the pollutes power rooms. The only thing a duplicant needs is to work the Power plant, with the included Refined Metal receptacle to speed up the process.

One question though, is there any way to fill the Coal Generators when the batteries are full? Even when set at 100% my auto-sweepers refuse to fill the coal gens until we get a battery drop. I just wanna feed the Slicksters!

Polluted Power Room

Polluted Power Room

Seven NatGas generators are as full as a Power Plant room can get, with just enough room for the Power Station and a refined metal receptacle. When mage with Gold tiles and heavi-watt, the decor values of this room have some very good spots, which should keep most dupes happy. This design is stackable via swapping out the Power Station and receptacle placement, as shown below.

Full-Stack Power Plant

The bottom-most room will require a drip tray for all the polluted water, making it the ugliest room in the stack. This is cooled in the background via petrol radiator pipes, keeping it cool and dumping the heat into the (not pictured) polluted reservoir below.

Compact Checkpoint Airlock

And finally, my final airlock design! In this specific instance, the left side is a 'dirty' living area while the right side is a Chlorine-filled storage room. Any Chlorine gas will be reclaimed via the manual filter, and all other gasses will be compressed into a queue and released as large packets into a shared pipe out to my air purifier / recycler system, taking all the CO2 / PO2 / Flatulence out of the living area while re-introducing the O2.

Without / Before the compressor design, the airlock would send out streams of micro-gram packets when near-vacuum, causing the shared pipe to block, then back-up and cause all my airlocks to fail. Now, these streams are combined and everything has been running smoothly!

Let me know if there are any improvements you can make to the above designs, I'm always happy to tinker more! Thanks for reading!

the synth to gen ratio is 3:1 and that hasn't changed

9:1 now (10g/s output for each fert synthesizer and 90g/s input for a nat gas generator)

this also makes my dirt farm useless, if it now cost dirt to make fertilizer than no one is going to want to cook it into dirt again :?

I feel you, just finished my own automated dirt cooker design^^

Can you separate them from any batteries with transformers? Alternatively use a automation controlled power switch to disconnect the coal generators from any batteries if they are close to full. I don't recall if you would need a load on the same line as the generator to get them to start, but a ceiling lamp or floor lamp should work if you do.

If you just put a dot of wire on the gen, and don't connect it to any battery, that should work, otherwise just put a lightbulb or something on it and it'll have to keep running to power it.  Basically, if the gen isn't connected to a battery of any kind, it counts as a permanently 0% battery.

Looks so nice, but not sure if your natural gas genertors will survive the new update

=> Huge increase in emitted heat

Oddly, in my integrated oil-boiler, slickster farm, NG powerplant, polluted water boiler, they natural gas generators stabilize around 75C. I don't understand why. I was hoping I could cool them with additional polluted water to just below the boiling point to increase the throughput of the system...
