goboking
I hereby challenge you to build and share with us your most Eco-friendly base. I'm not going to decide for you what limitations you place on yourself for such a challenge, but some possible restrictions would include using algae terrariums for oxygen, shinebugs for light, drekos for plastic, no strip mining, etc. I myself am more of an industrial machinery kinda guy - to the point of using oil wells and carbon skimmers en lieu of slicksters - so I won't be participating, but I'd love to see your designs if you're up for it. Coolthulhu
It's not really a challenge if there are no measurable goals or rules. Anyone can proclaim himself a winner. kuroko0820
Can i assume that u saying build a base which majority output is based on critter output ? For example, purify polluted water by using pacu only; not allow to cooling base by machine, had to do it by wheetworts only; only can use coal generator which source provided by hatches, etc Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/90460-challenge-build-an-eco-friendly-colony/#findComment-1032588 Share on other sites
QuQuasar
Something I learned from the Kerbal Space Program forums: to do a good challenge thread you need solid rules or some form of scoring system, otherwise people won't be inclined to participate. I can think of a few additional definitions of "eco-friendly" off the top of my head: minimum power usage/heat generation, and minimum disruption of the 'wild' terrain. But sorry, I'm not really inclined to make a base out of it. BlueLance
The term eco friendly is pretty vague, I mean if I had a water source that was good enough, then id already be eco friendly since my base usually runs off of hydrogen. I only mine what I need. Or well I used to until i increased my map size etc, now I have a large maintenance shaft spanning the width of my asteroid XD Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/90460-challenge-build-an-eco-friendly-colony/#findComment-1032611 Share on other sites
CDoroFF
imho, eco-friendly colony can't use Coal Generator at all due to obviuos reason. Only natural power produced by natural dupes. Using micronutrient fertiliser should be forbidden too. Also as irrigation. The best example of this colony might be 3 dupes who just dig tonnels, eat muckroot, hunt dreckos or hatches and poop under themselves. Oozinator
Nuclear power is most times very enviroment friendly! Forget about Fukushima and Tchernobyl (most humans did), it will 99% sure never happen again and forget the nuclear sunken subs too! When such stuff is in real life "enviroment friendly" called, how to create enviroment unfriendly conditions in ONI? Mariilyn
That could include any colony relying on circular systems where all waste is completely reused and the constructed portion of the base is very dense and compact (i.e. is ressource and space efficient). BlueLance
I wouldnt say my bases are compact, but my walls go right up to the earth that they cam from XD also if you are using a geyser that is still eco friendly since it does not stop Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/90460-challenge-build-an-eco-friendly-colony/#findComment-1032639 Share on other sites
absimiliard
I would interpret eco-friendliness as at a minimum meaning no impact in terms of resources used -- so fully closed resource loops. Coal generators for example would be fine, if you fed them with hatches and didn't go dig out coal for them. Additionally I think it should also include minimal digging out of the asteroid. It obviously needs to be sure not to drive extinct any of the native animals. Finally I fear it should not allow hollowing out the abyssalite veins -- thermal bleed between biomes is bad enough in the new release, hollowing will speed it up greatly resulting in the destruction of the asteroid's native biomes. What I do not think eco-friendliness is defined as is anything inherently restricting tech. I also don't think it necessarily means using the natural caverns. In many ways a tiny, high-tech, core, with fully looped inputs and utilized outputs probably impacts the rest of the asteroid the least. Going low-tech AND being eco-friendly -- think of it as an asteroid neo-barbarian if you will, is probably the most interesting and most challenging. To my great sorrow stripping wheezeworts out of their native biomes is probably contraindicated as well -- it will speed up the pace at which the biomes succumb to the heat of their surrounding despite abyssalite veins around them. Lilalaunekuh
My "Eco-friendly" approach is: -all dupes are pacifists -will use just fish for water treatment -no plastic refinery (+ like in all my bases i use just infinite sustainable systems) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/90460-challenge-build-an-eco-friendly-colony/#findComment-1032656 Share on other sites
alown
Haha, best joke of the year. You know that the game is about managing eco-destructor dupes ?? And dont forget, their is only 3 category of human dupes behavior : ugly crier, vomiter and destructive. Have a good day x) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/90460-challenge-build-an-eco-friendly-colony/#findComment-1032698 Share on other sites
