In order to take action there needs to be names, and naming bad people even if you literally have proof is against the rules of everything because the identities of bad people need to be protected to ensure nothing bad happens to them while they get away with bad things.

Here’s my solution for the OP’s issue:

Upon spawning, I think the Postern itself shoud do a check of its surroundings and delete entities that are considered ‘dangerous’ if any are found. So for example, if the infamous spider-greeting is in play, it’ll get deleted, or at least temporarily disabled to allow newcomers to leave spawn safely. Similar to the light that appears when spawning in at night.

It would be hilarious if the players happened to be in the middle of chasing bearger around, then someone spawned in and deleted it... lmao

I mean... you're talking about a game server. Where Klei can shut it down at will, and do whatever they please with it. Qwik-E-Mart and Stinking Merm are different in the sense that Klei can just kick them out and they won't be able to do anything about it.

Taking legal action against (most likely) a group of annoying kids is just ridiculously overkill to the point that it would give Klei the reputation of "Don't grief in Klei games or else they'll sue you".

I'm wondering where moderators for the servers are, honestly. I've only seen 1 in the time I've played pubs. Would love to see more trustworthy people making the experience fun and fair. Hell, I'd love to become a moderator for their public servers.

They don't have moderators. You likely stumbled on an "official" server made by someone else.

Obviously that's because you didn't present a formal resume of your skills and starving background, and didn't schedule a formal interview at a specified time, preferably when hounds are not around and it is not full moon.

Well, the Qwik-E-Mart guy can keep a shotgun under the register, but yeah, it's not a perfect analogy. I'm just suggesting that what these people are doing is a lot more serious than they think. They can say they're protecting against "griefers" and "newbs" all they want, but until Klei hires them to do it, they're taking unauthorized control of someone else's property. I don't really think Klei wants to sue these people, or really even should commit to the risk of banning them and being condemned as an enabler of "abuse," but I also don't think it's a good idea to poke the bear.

I would like everyone to know that PeterA just logged into a Klei server, deleted the spawn trap (spider dens) and then promptly logged off. I've never laughed so hard in ages.

Hopefully this means that they're working on a fix though!

RIP, 300+ day base at Stinking Merm got reset. Here's a little story about it since it was one the funniest experiences I've had in pubs:

I joined at Day 220 and it had a spawn block, but I spawned outside of it since I've played on it before. Before I even started hammering the spawn lock, a votekick was started against me which passed. Note that my username constantly changes throughout these screenshots.

I rejoined later and the spawn lock was rebuilt and it had two players trapped inside. I hammered the spawn lock and got votekicked again.

For the next two times I joined to hammer the spawn locks, I didn't get screenshots, but here's a screenshot taken by somebody else. So they started using tables instead of fossils, and I freed a Webber before getting kicked. Then they put a spider den and a beefalo inside to kill me, not realising that I logged out outside of it. I managed to put a gap in the spawn lock, and that gap let a few people out who'll be important later.

I didn't quite expect them to be waiting for me when I rejoined, since there were two Wigfrids standing there who immediately started following me when I started running away. I assumed this was because they wanted to know the spot where I'll log out after the votekick passes, and I was right. I took a break for some hours, and asked somebody who managed to get out to take a screenshot of where I logged out. It was trapped with four level three spider dens intended to get rid of me.

Some people helped destroy those dens so I could hammer the spawn locks again. So when I got out, I found the spawn filled with skeletons. When I've hammered all of them, they resulted in a few stacks of bone shards, so there certainly was quite lot of them.

A few other people joined to help me clean up the portal, carpet it up and add a friendly look to it.

The portal area survived like that for the rest of the world and it even got some improvements like a Lazy Deserter.

A few days later, it was reset, but I'll always remember how silly DST can be sometimes.

The size of the "surrounding" could be very big. How big is it gonna search? Disingenuous players could still make the blocage bigger so it escapes the search. It costs more ressources but it doesn't remove completely the option

Great story, John Watson! It’s surprising what new forms the challenge of this game can take. How did you spawn outside the portal?

I haven’t hopped on a Klei server in ages, but I don’t see that Klei is obligated to pay people to sit on them 24/7 and moderate this sort of crap. On Strictly Unprofessional you can call a mod when someone starts knocking down pig houses or otherwise misbehaving. But really, instead of complaining that no one is providing you with a moderated server free of charge, why not set up your own? Uhostpro rents out a surface/cave combo for about $6 a month, cheaper than Netflix. You haven’t experienced the true glory of “your world, your rules” until you’ve forced the Wolfgang who just raided your base and isn’t responding to chat to drop all his inventory items and kicked him from the server.

@Szczuku "Professional" griefers, as you most likely know, change their Steam nicks a lot so it doesn't matter if someone posts here such a temporary nick, is meaningless pretty much, just a play of words not a permanent identifier (as opposed to Klei IDs). As for @sosiskaKi question: Clouds has at least 5 bot/accounts, to which they change nicks probably each 10 minutes or so; thus it really doesn't matter what play-of-words was used at some point. But as a rule of thumb, he uses cloud avatars (hence the enduring nick) on most of them, same avatars for a long time.

 I decided to hop on one of the Klei servers to see this malfeasance for myself, but it was only Day 1 and everyone played nice. Also Peter A did make a brief appearance, I’m assuming to make sure no one had grieved the postern.

one time i was in a server where a wicker placed a lot os tentacles at the FP and noone knew it until it was too late, but we helped anyone who joined and everythink was fine and fun, and i agree i hate more the people that just enter in your server to destroid the base (i hope klei did somethink but is not the end of the world for me if they dont do anything)

Pengull Parade is EU iirc, while Peter lives somewhere in Canada. Makes sense.
