Cannibalism?

Recommended Posts

I was digging around in the save files and I was looking for some stats to tweek under one of my characters "Chief Hassan" when I found the following statement:  "Butchered to make a Meat".

Oooookay?

Welcome to the Grim Dark future mate.

I doubt the devs willingness to introduce that, but they can be persuaded if the community pushes that issue strong enough.

It was apparently going to be added in DST, but the community was strongly against it so it was dropped.

Be careful though, that's a hunger that can never be satiated.

Oh, it's rather simple... just bake yourself a pie. Or in a pie. :)

I don't think that's exactly right. It was in the single player game long ago, but a single person made a thread complaining about it which caused the devs to reconsider the issue, and they took it out of the game against the wishes of the majority. They left everything hidden in the code though so that modders can easily add it back into the game if they want to. I assume that this lurking code was just inadvertently brought along for the ride when they ported DS to DST.

Never mind. :wilson_cool:

Oh really? Didn't know it was already in DS, I just remember the gigantic cannibalism DST thread when people found out about it and half supported the idea while the other half burned it to the ground.

I am 100% certain that long pig was added in DST's alpha.

It's seriously not a bad idea. I'm tired of my duplicants dying, and just laying there. I wish I could just sweep them up and make mush bars out of them. Especially when they're dying of starvation, and there's a perfectly good body just laying there!

I swear I'm not a sociopath IRL. Just in my video games.

Can I get citations on that?

Well I am completely certain that long pig was never part of single player DS and was only part of DST in early alpha because I've been following the game's development but if you want citations I think Seth mentioned it as a new addition in an interview. I don't have time to check it right now but it might be this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04Ewq1V122Y
(Also lets not discuss this any further in this thread this is about Oxygen Not Included)

If I have a dupe who gets too stressed out too soon for my base to be properly set up to be barf central, I kill them of by building themselves into tiles, and let the corpse spawn morbs which I in turn kill for the meat. This is early game (below cycle 100) so I don't exactly have use for them as pets yet so the sweet juicy meat that has grown on the dead dupes corpse will do nicely as a diet supplement. Not exactly cannibalism but pretty darn close.

I do the same with scientist once all research is done and I have no need for them anymore.
