The old wall strat still work... in a way.

If you give DF enough damage before the last lavae despawn, DF will go on summon more lava and skip the enrage phase. So as long as you have enough players hitting DF, you are safe in the walled area and can ignore the lavae.

Another legit and reasonable way to kill it, is to use ice staff to freeze lavae as they show up. Use sleep dart (5 darts) or panflute to end DF's enrage.

Then there is another cheesy strat.

Also, if you can't stop her enraging, simply putiing on scalemail on top of your battle/football helmets or whatever else armour you have on your head should be fine, although you'd really have to watch out for her stomp attacks. You could use marble suit too, I guess, when she's stomping to not get as much hp damage, although you'll get lit on fire... perhaps switch between the two (marble and scalemail) if you can't avoid her stomps.

Okay.

But after Warts and All update dragonfly's minions will despawn automatically, so the boss will activate his "fire" mode anyways?

How do they despawn?

If the fire mode is enraged mode, how is it activated?

And, how do you fight her?

They simply die after a few seconds of existing... that's pretty much it.

I must add that another tactic would be simply to throw waterballoons at her, as I believe they make her lose her rage mode.

Activated when all Lavaes die. You fight her by dodging certain attacks(the aoe stomp, i think something with her swipe, can't remember for dst), ice staves/walling up the lavaes(ice staves flat out kill them tho, with walls they'll die after some time), and either bringing a bunch of friends, or using bunnymen.

If you hit them 5 times instead of just 3 or max of 4, then yes, they die instantly. Other than that, they just freeze, stay frozen for a while and then die, which can be good if you want a good supply of rocks.

So the best strategy for solo killing is to use panflute when it's enraged. It will become normal after attack.

I aren't 100% sure about all this. However from my testing, there seems to be a few ways to prevent Dfly from enraging.

So first of all, Dfly will summon lavae whenever her HP reach the 80%,50% and 20% mark. This is a hard trigger, meaning that doesn't matter what Dfly is doing, as soon as she reach that 80%,50%,20% mark, she will head to the magma. This can put an enraged/ enraging(doing the enrage animation) Dfly back to the normal state.

Second thing I have notice is that, whenever Dfly's last lavae die, there is a chance that she DOES NOT enrage. She can go summon more lavae instead. And when the sequence wave of lavae die out, she roll the dice again and may choose to either summon more or enrage. But once she has enraged she will not summon more lavae/ enrage again, until her HP reach the 50%,20% mark mentioned above.

Third thing I have notice, is that if you kill the last remaining lavae while Dfly is frozen/asleep, then when she wake up/unfreeze she will act as if she has already enraged once. This means she will not summon more lavae/ enrage, until her HP reach the 50%/20% mark as mentioned above.

She 100% becomes enraged. But if you deal enough amount of dmg before the last lavae dies Dfly will go spawn more lavaes.

The video:

The code (ty Azukun):

--If that was my last lavae & I'm out of lavaes to spawn then enrage.
    if inst.components.rampingspawner:GetCurrentWave() <= 0 and data.remaining_spawns <= 0 then
        --Blargh!
        inst.components.rampingspawner:Stop()
        inst.components.rampingspawner:Reset()
        inst:PushEvent("transform", { transformstate = "fire" })
    end

Still not sure how the game generate the value for "data.remaining_spawns". If it is a random value between 5~20, then effectively DFly's enrage pattern is random. Say if Dfly has 5 remaining lavae at the begining of the fight, then after the first wave of lavae die she will enrage. If Dly has more then 5 remaining lavae, then after the first wave she will spawn in more lavae.

Try to use other character/weapon, you'll not get this effect. Wolfgang w/ dark sword deals 272 dmg per second, "enough" dmg rate is 250 per second.

You will NEVER get this effect if you'll play as, for example, Woodie or Wilson.

The point of the video is that, Dfly does not always enrage after all lavae despawn/die. At 1:20 all 5 lavaes from the first wave despawned. Dfly didn't enrage there. Second wave of lavaes die out at 2:27 and again she didn't enrage. 3rd wave of lavaes die at 3:38, and at that point Dfly enraged.

This time first wave of lavaes die at 1:29, no enrage.

Second wave of lavaes die at 2:37, enraged.

Also worth notice is that, enrage last for 1 min (2:37 to 3:37).

After that she will not spawn more lavae or enrage, until her HP is down to the 50% mark. At that point she will spawn in more lavae.

So, I think everyone knows a strategy with walls, right? But after Warts and All update dragonfly's minions will despawn automatically, so the boss will activate his "fire" mode anyways? Is that possible to defeat fly then?

Is the rock wall method the only thing new people know? You know it's an exploitative method, right and not a legitemate one? I've never understood this, do people (that is newbies or something) not think from the game design perspective for Dragonfly or this game entirely or what?

This is the only method I know. There were some additional strategies before the Warts and All update.

@Mday I'm watching your videos, very interesting! Why does the Dfly sleeps after a few hits? Is that a Dark Sword's perk? Wiki says nothing about that, and I never got that effect.

In a sandbox game like this, it's actually awesome to discover different ways to survive around, and it's even better that you can find strategies that weren't mean to exist. There is not a competition for the most PRO MLG 360º GIANT QUAD-KILL, but players taking adventage of new logics and using all the tools they can find. Each player will use the way they like the most, and that's awesome. I don't think this game is designed to go Rambo mode 24/7, but to try to live longer using all the tools the world offers, which is already pretty difficult for some players :).

I've never used the rock wall strat, don't get me wrong. I don't defend any in particular, just pointing out how awesome the huge variety of posibilities in this game is.

From the wiki:

Quote

When fought, she will get stunned for ten seconds if she takes more than 1250 damage within a five-second period. While stunned, if she takes 2500 damage, she will drop Scales. This can be easily achieved by dropping two piles of Gunpowder, one of 7 and one of 13, close to each other, then freezing or putting the Dragonfly to sleep next to them and lighting the stack of 7. The stack of 13 will smolder and trigger the Scales to drop. Afterwards, She cannot be stunned for another 60 seconds, and requires an extra 250 damage to be stunned again (this stacks each time). However, subsequent stuns cannot drop extra Scales, but causing the Dragonfly to respawn (by leaving the arena or killing her) will reset all of her stats and allow for additional Scales to drop again.

Wolfgang at Full hunger wielding a dark sword, happens to deal just enough damage to get that stun off. This is one of the ways wolfgang players can farm scales solo.

Sadly the funnest method to solo Dfly(in my book) just got patched not long ago.
