[IDEA]Crafting Blueprints for Known Items.

Recommended Posts

With DST A New Reign Warts and All bringing blueprint drops to Dragonfly and Toadstool it got many of us thinking of those that just hold spacebar at the end of a fight and what happens if a person takes a blueprint, uses it, and then leaves the server, never to be found again?

Many of you would say:

Only play with those you know/trust.

That's great and all, but not always the best player experience if your friends/those you trust are a much lower skill cap. It becomes babysitting.

So new idea:

Using reeds/papyrus, quill, and gems/mats/ink from something special you could make one blueprint of an already known craftable item. It could solve many issues and also in some cases add to player experience. Make a desk similar to cartographers or change it to a scribe desk and it becomes its own crafting station for such uses.

to be honest, it would make less point on killing toadstool or dragon, which were made for it. you cant really expect klei to do that :p also its a nice idea if you can do that with the all science or alchemy engine stuff could be blueprintable (if its even a word), but no magic

Yes yes yes yes yes. Did I say yes? All my yes. All of it.

I knw there was something on my mind for DST earlier this week, but I was at work and failed to write it down. And this was it. This is it exactly.

So far the cartographer's desk has only one use. And while it's a nice use, it's still only one use. One recipe for an entire new crafting tab seems rather underwhelming, no? Put blueprints in there! It's not cartography, fine. But close enough?

Changing Cartographer's Desk to Scribe's Desk sounds great. It's beta for a reason, eh?
Cartography tab changed to Scribbling Scribery?

This would be awesome with all the new craftables coming out, not to mention that map-making already encourages sharing information in a similar way.

Maybe some restrictions could apply.... recipes based on boss drops and the magic tab

You are aware that you would still need resorces from those bosses to craft some of those extra stuff, right? Btw Toadstool have really weak loot in my opinion (unless you like pretty things).

If we talking about adding and changing stuff how about making mini glaciers not renewable? What I mean is, if you dig them they should disappear and don't leave puddle that will freeze again, but if nobody dig them they should melt and stay melted until they freeze again and someone dig them, also I have a great idea to give Ice Staff possibility to "build up" miniglaciers when they are melted, it would give additional use for this item and also extra possibility to gain ice in warmer seasons.

Besides I want to talk about Insulated Pack. I played DST for over 500 hours and I never seen anyone using this item. We know that it takes 1 x Thick Fur + 3 x Gears + 3 Electrical Doodad to craft and it's only benefit is that it slows down spoilage, oh and you loose 2 backpack slots if you have it equipped. In my opinion it's not worth it. So what could they change? Make it a weaker fridge but give it possibility to keep ice related items in it and stop melting completely, also giving possibility to freeze thermal stone in it could be great maybe not so fast as it is in fridge but slower so you would force someone to carry two thermal stones and swap them if needed. When you do this you force players to make decision if they want to have great winter gear or maybe great summer gear.

I swear, I thought the title of this thread was:

[IKEA]Crafting Blueprints for Known Items.

I was mildly confused for a moment.

But on topic, maybe it could be something like 2 or 3 Papyrus plus any non-"unique" items involved in a recipe will make a blueprint for an item ("Unique" being things like Deerclops Eyeball, Shroom Skin, The rarer gems, etc.)?

So if you want to give a Funcap Recipe to someone, you need to use 2 Papyrus and 6 Mushrooms and it'll make a Blueprint, but 2 Papyrus and a Bucket-o-poop can make a Mushlight Blueprint.

The person that receives the Blueprint will still need any valuable, rare items needed, but people won't be fighting with each other for a piece of paper.

I feel like the boss should just drop blueprints/loot for the players who have done dmg to it.

So say there at 10 people on a server and 5 go off to kill toad/dragon, then it should drop 5 blueprints and 5x loot. The only problem i think could come from this is players playing as Woodie being to busy chopping trees and not hitting the boss. But most of the time there are no tree to chop so he should be fine.

The best thing would be to place the loot in the player inventory's right after the death of said boss.

EDIT: Or just give rare blueprints infinite uses.

If it was an IKEA blueprint, you would spend the entire day trying to read it :^ )

(cracks up) Ohmygod, now I'm trying to imagine the Don't Starve version of IKEA furniture.  And I've got a picture in my head of Wilson holding a blueprint up, then doing the head-scratching idle animation.

However, if the blueprints also come with yummy meatballs...I'm in!  ;)
